Awarded by the Classical institute of art and architecture , the linnean house has a restrained and simple elevation of doors and windows. Nestled in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Washington, D.C., the Linnean House is classical in both plan and elevation throughout its award-winning house plans. The main mass, comprising of the most formal and public spaces, is a spatial triptych along a symmetrical main axis. Inside the luxury home, the limestone façade, simple but well-proportioned with classical elements, extends itself into both the entry portico and main foyer with consistent proportions and materiality. This introduction allows the flanking living and dining rooms to be perceived as separate pavilions, each equipped with eight equal-proportioned French doors symmetrical of the main axis. Beyond the classical spaces are two wings which lead to the master suite and a kitchen/family space, respectively. Both of which are situated to queue from the French door axis, a focal feature in the repeatedly published home design. At the entry foyer, the stark stone luxury architecture is warmed by two symmetrical wood armoire-like freestanding sculptural objects, a persistent theme throughout the luxury house. In the kitchen, for instance, stand four similar wood armoire objects at opposite corners that act as columns and help give this space a sense of boundary and enclosure. The master bath vanity, in similar fashion, is introduced as a central free-standing form anchoring itself as a notable presence in the space. Lastly, the wine room is designed as a series of free-standing heavy wood cavity walls spanned only by a hint of glass.

Beginning with the entrance to the home. An undulation of steps down from the street, up into the house, and back down into the kitchen was simplified by elevating the patio and entry to the main level of the house. The introduction of a shed dormer enabled the entrance to accommodate a full-sized front door.

The two story foyer welcomes guests and shows off the volume of space in this well appointed foyer. The 48" foyer light showcases the arched transom window, with the combination of stained and painted staircase parts... this is nothing less than a perfect introduction to the rest of the home.

THEME Doors are a visual frame to the entrance of a great room. This highquality, personalized element adds fun and interest to the room before it is even entered, and provides a great introduction for any theme. FOCUS The half-door offers unique access to the room, providing a true feeling of ownership for the child and peace of mind for parents. The top half of the door swings separate from the bottom, maintaining great ventilation and a clear view into the room. GROWTH The doors look beautiful and function normally for many years. SAFETY The doors easily replace unsightly baby gates and provide the same level of restraint, without the footholds or slats often used by children to manipulate or climb gates. Solid wood core birch construction keeps sound out (or sound in) when the door is closed, while a sliding gate lock safely secures the bottom half, and makes opening the top half simple.

The reconstruction begins with the elevator lobby which is made to feel spacious and airy with the introduction of a curved glass block wall. The inside of this curved wall becomes a prominent feature of the new kitchen / dining area which is created from the apartment's formal dining room.

After an extension renovation, this almost 5,000 square foot city residence now exudes quiet luxury. Long sight lines were established to capitalize on expansive views. The introduction of classical proportions throughout elevates one’s experience of the space. Luxe materials and architectural detailing build in functionality and showcase a curated collection of books and contemporary art. Clean-lined custom furniture offers a supremely comfortable welcome to extended family and friends. The pink fabric on the shams and bed skirt was an unexpected direction for the client! She was uneasy about the introduction of a softer pink, and was concerned that it would clash with the red she had already. As a designer, I could see that incorporating more reds would darken the space and weigh the room down. The fabric we chose had enough of a subtle pattern that it worked will with the red in the nightstands and brought forward the pink in the floral duvet.

A small second floor room that was being used as a storage closet was converted to an En-suite Bathroom. The Bathroom was thoughtfully designed for aging-in-place with adequate clearances, minimal thresholds, and smart design elements for caretakers to assist in everyday tasks. The Master Bathroom on this floor was also updated with the introduction of a curb-less shower, custom vanity cabinets, and modern plumbing and lighting fixtures. The Kitchen received a new, modern layout and custom cabinetry to take advantage of the generous ceiling height and abundant natural light. The beloved wood stove in the adjacent sitting room was flanked with floating walnut shelves and a custom hutch to highlight the brick chimney and activate the space. Natural materials and a simple yet modern aesthetic create warm and functional spaces in the classic West Philadelphian home.

Design symmetry and the introduction of rich sophisticated materials incorporated with existing elements transform this stark white walled high rise condominium into a luxury home. The unexpected details of glass bead wall paper, back painted glass, and textural metallic hand applied wall finish set the tone for this elegant space. Tall Phlox or P. paniculata is a late summer favorite for height in the perennial garden. the colors are numerous, newer introductions bloom earlier in summer and bloom into the fall. More mildew resistant varieties are available, and mid-size growth makes them more favorable since staking is not required. Pruning back in May-June will keep them shorter and fuller.
