Residential remodel of an attic space added a master bedroom, master bath and nursery as well as much-needed built-in custom storage into the hallway and eave spaces. Light-filled on even the most overcast days, this Portland residence is bright and airy with balance of natural materials playing off a white backdrop. This project was not only full of many bathrooms but also many different aesthetics. The goals were fourfold, create a new master suite, update the basement bath, add a new powder bath and my favorite, make them all completely different aesthetics. Primary Bath-This was originally a small 60SF full bath sandwiched in between closets and walls of built-in cabinetry that blossomed into a 130SF, five-piece primary suite. This room was to be focused on a transitional aesthetic that would be adorned with Calcutta gold marble, gold fixtures and matte black geometric tile arrangements. Powder Bath-A new addition to the home leans more on the traditional side of the transitional movement using moody blues and greens accented with brass. A fun play was the asymmetry of the 3-light sconce brings the aesthetic more to the modern side of transitional. My favorite element in the space, however, is the green, pink black and white deco tile on the floor whose colors are reflected in the details of the Australian wallpaper. Hall Bath-Looking to touch on the home's 70's roots, we went for a mid-mod fresh update. Black Calcutta floors, linear-stacked porcelain tile, mixed woods and strong black and white accents. The green tile may be the star but the matte white ribbed tiles in the shower and behind the vanity are the true unsung heroes.

This bedroom was designed for a sweet couple who's dream was to live in a beach cottage. After purchasing a fixer-upper, they were ready to make their dream come true. The family living in this shingled roofed home on the Peninsula loves color and pattern. At the heart of the two-story house, we created a library with high gloss lapis blue walls. The tête-à-tête provides an inviting place for the couple to read while their children play games at the antique card table. As a counterpoint, the open planned family, dining room, and kitchen have white walls. We selected a deep aubergine for the kitchen cabinetry. In the tranquil master suite, we layered celadon and sky blue while the daughters' room features pink, purple, and citrine.

Keeping all interior furnishing at a low profile so that your eye stays focused on the crystal blue Pacific. Adding natural furs and playful colors to the homes neutral palate kept the space warm and cozy. Plants and trees helped complete the space and allowed “life” to flow inside and out. For the exterior furnishings we chose natural teak and neutral colors, but added pops of orange to contrast against the bright blue skyline. This master bedroom in Malibu, CA is open and light. Wall to wall sliding doors gives the owner a perfect morning. A custom Poliform bed was made in dark chocolate leather paired with custom leather nightstands. The fire place is 2 sided which gives warmth to the bedroom and the bathroom. A low profile bed was requested by the client. Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional master carpeted bedroom remodel in Chicago with gray walls, a ribbon fireplace and a stone fireplace

When planning this custom residence, the owners had a clear vision – to create an inviting home for their family, with plenty of opportunities to entertain, play, and relax and unwind. They asked for an interior that was approachable and rugged, with an aesthetic that would stand the test of time. Amy Carman Design was tasked with designing all of the millwork, custom cabinetry and interior architecture throughout, including a private theater, lower level bar, game room and a sport court. A materials palette of reclaimed barn wood, gray-washed oak, natural stone, black windows, handmade and vintage-inspired tile, and a mix of white and stained woodwork help set the stage for the furnishings. This down-to-earth vibe carries through to every piece of furniture, artwork, light fixture and textile in the home, creating an overall sense of warmth and authenticity.

Subway tile has made a huge resurgence - and made its way into the residential marketplace tenfold. It's classic, it's clean, and you can play with the installation method to get some creative results. The small footprint of this Master Bath is underplayed because of the vaulted ceiling and skylight, smart storage solutions, and trough sink...not to mention the uber cool rain-shower panel.
