Working at the Island cooktop, overlooking the lovely rear yard, was a top priority for this Client. During several consultant sessions this young couple have chosen the lighter and more contemporary style cabinetry to create a timeless yet elegant kitchen design. Our designers carefully put together soft color schemes for cabinetry and a gorgeous exotic counter top, yet used a bolder Espresso color Island cabinetry to set off this entire space. Used LED lighting throughout, pendant lights, load bearing wall between kitchen and family room was removed and a steel beam was installed to create an 18 feet opening between kitchen and adjacent family room. The old kitchen bulkheads, paneling and flooring was removed. Relocated all electrical and stack plumbing in bulkhead from inside of them to open up space for taller cabinetry. The new unfinished wood flooring was laid to create seamless connection among kitchen and rest of the home. Now they can enjoy the view of a beautiful backyard scenery and a beautiful kitchen

“I am really into black. And I like gray and white too. Pretty much all the neutral colors.” From the start of our initial consultation, we knew this client was looking to transform their home with a distinctive kitchen and bath remodel! Jeff went on to describe how he and his wife Jan wanted a clean, modern look. We got to work to create a design they would love!

This kitchen was given a full renovation by our Chicago design-build team. We maintained the former peninsula layout that accommodated a breakfast nook, and the stove and dishwasher were placed in the same location as before. We moved the refrigerator and installed a microwave above the existing exhaust fan, and added finishing touches like new recessed lighting, LED undercabinet lighting, and lights above the peninsula. Infill Urban Homes often sacrifice yard space to increase the size of the house footprint and this property was no exception. A complete redesign of the rear deck included a pergola and screens for privacy and both a dining an cooking area while not limiting access to the basement walkout that was updated with a modern sauna with a new greenroof to soften the rear yard. A small seating rea and new privacy trees make up the balance of this rear yard while still leaving enough room for a small storage shed.
