Inspiration for a mid-sized modern white one-story mixed siding house exterior remodel in DC Metro

The ranch-style home required significant modifications to make room for two generations of adults living in one household. The second story addition was added containing a master bedroom suite, craft room, study, laundry and bathroom. Furthermore, the existing first floor was redesigned and renovated with the focus on creating a “no-step” main level for an aging parent with mobility concerns. A new great room was constructed which affords the homeowners a comfortable place to relax or entertain larger family gatherings. Careful consideration was given to the design of the exterior of the home as well. It was important that the second floor addition blend with the original home creating a unified façade.

The original bathroom on the main floor had an odd Jack-and-Jill layout with two toilets, two vanities and only a single tub/shower (in vintage mint green, no less). With some creative modifications to existing walls and the removal of a small linen closet, we were able to divide the space into two functional bathrooms – one of them now a true en suite master. In the master bathroom we chose a soothing palette of warm grays – the geometric floor tile was laid in a random pattern adding to the modern minimalist style. The slab front vanity has a mid-century vibe and feels at place in the home. Storage space is always at a premium in smaller bathrooms so we made sure there was ample countertop space and an abundance of drawers in the vanity. While calming grays were welcome in the bathroom, a saturated pop of color adds vibrancy to the master bedroom and creates a vibrant backdrop for furnishings.

We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2015 Best Kitchen Renovation by the Harrisburg Builders Association for our project completed in the fall of 2014! The Porters love their new kitchen! Although the original layout was similar, we made some modifications to allow for better appliances. The finished space showcases a fully reconfigured open-concept layout connecting the kitchen, dining area, and fireplace feature wall. Structural modifications allowed for improved sightlines, enhanced natural light flow, and seamless circulation between spaces. The custom waterfall island anchors the kitchen, while refined finishes and hardwood flooring extend into the dining area to create continuity throughout the main floor. The updated fireplace and surrounding detailing provide a modern focal point, balancing warmth with contemporary design. This transformation reflects a coordinated approach to structural planning, material selection, and precision installation—resulting in a cohesive, high-end living space tailored for modern West Vancouver homes. Open-concept kitchen and dining room renovation with structural layout modification, updated fireplace feature wall, and continuous engineered hardwood flooring throughout the main floor.

The client moved into this space with a pair of high-end speakers he had from his last house. The built-ins were already there in his new family room. No other speaker which could fit on those shelves was going to be any better, or even as good, as the speakers he already owned--not without spending many thousands of dollars. It made sense to modify the built-ins to better fit the existing speakers. This photo shows the built-ins after that modification. Another photo shows the speaker and the shelves before the modification. An upgradeable TV and audio system, commensurate in quality to the speakers, was provided by DH Audio and Home Theater. The system is upgradeable by both software updates and by virtue of its NAD Master Series surround sound processor which uses a design much like a PC tower with its removable card slots. New technologies (4k video, MQA) have already come along since the introduction of this surround processor for which the owner can buy and or upgrade the removable cards. This cabinet is also the heart of a Bluesound wireless and expandable multi-room music system that the customer favored for its superior sound quality (e.g. over Sonos). Ease-of-use was also a must, so DH Audio & Home Theater custom programmed a remote so that one button press is all that's required to call up Fios HD TV, Netflix, Blu-ray discs, family photos and video, or music.

This impressive home showcases a splendid master suite, accommodating bath and walk in closet. Perfect for entertaining, the kitchen and family area is astounding, lending itself to a room for increased dining and entertaining. An outdoor living area with a covered porch and fireplace is easily accessed from the dining gallery, family room and master bedroom. PHOTOGRAPHY Scott Espie It’s warm fuzzies all around for this recently completed renovation in Mt Roskill, Auckland, where everyone involved had an enjoyable time working their way through a seven-month home extension and re-design.

At roughly 1,600 sq.ft. of existing living space, this modest 1971 split level home was too small for the family living there and in need of updating. Modifications to the existing roof line, adding a half 2nd level, and adding a new entry effected an overall change in building form. New finishes inside and out complete the alterations, creating a fresh new look. The sloping site drops away to the east, resulting in incredible views from all levels. From the clean, crisp interior spaces expansive glazing frames the VISTA.

We made minor modifications to the existing flow of this 1996 home in the Cottage Lake area of Woodinville WA. The updates were made in adding white cabinets and lightening up the original space with fresh new tile, countertops and appliances.
