This bright and light kitchen project required us extending the kitchen into the dinette area and removing a window to get a better flow. Luckily there were 3 large windows, so we decided removing one wouldn't significantly decrease the amount of natural light. It was a good trade for form and function. We were able to increase the work surfaces to create a much more useable kitchen that fit all the necessities and even had room for extra. We added pull outs and functional accessories to make it an easy to use space. We supplemented the natural light with a solar tube and plenty of installed light with 2 sizes of adjustable output and temperature LED ceiling cans for layers of light.

This modern farmhouse chic kitchen remodel features clean lines of alabaster cabinets and white gloss ceramic square tiles layered with natural wood tones. Removing the wall between the kitchen and family room allowed for a generous new island with a quartz countertop and farmhouse sink and plenty of below-counter storage space while creating a large open living space. Adding faux ceiling beams helps to transition the space into the modern farmhouse style. The raised upper cabinets provide extended storage space and the lighted top cabinets add beautiful display or functional space. Black quartz flanks the stove and provides plenty of countertop space for cooking tools and kitchen necessities. The dark bronzed and brass detailed hood and matching island lighting complement the kitchen’s neutral colors. The dining nook features a linear aged-iron lighting fixture and under-seating drawers. Increasing storage was a necessity for this home, so we added a much needed closet to the dining room, and designed semi custom floating cabinetry for the living room & dining room. We added a custom barn door to their family room to give them the option of closing the television off from the rest of their home. The clients really wanted to brighten up their dark kitchen, so we removed the black cabinets and red backsplash to make room for beautiful natural wood cabinets and a custom clay tile backsplash. Contemporary touches like a zero radius stainless steel sink, concrete light fixtures, and a double waterfall counter-top continue to echo the clean lines utilized through out the rest of the home. For the two first floor bathrooms we removed barrels full of mosaic tile and installed large scale white and grey tiles, making the rooms feel larger and reign in the visual texture. We continued to use the cool tones and clean lines in the bathrooms to tie them in with the rest of the home and give us a unified feel between spaces.

As is often the case in the homes that I see, this bathroom was dark, run down and used more out of necessity than anything else. In much need of attention, I redesigned this space to be open and flooded with natural light. Highly reflective surfaces, allow the eye to bounce around the room. A re-built, high end shower now feels like a spa with multiple controls at a user’s service. A sculptural bathtub, sets relaxation up for long lingering and highlights the lake side view. Automated, custom designed window treatments are remoted controlled for ease and vanities are wide and softly cheery to leave the mornings with lots of useable space. We completely changed the footprint of this master bath, adding a water closet clad in a wonderful high gloss veneer. Giving the space richness through color, materials, texture and all of this glorious marble flooring and wall tiles, this space now makes you want to spend extra time getting ready.

Lacking adequate space for their growing family, the homeowners hired DJL Builders to add on to the side of their home and update the existing layout. DJL Builders built a master bedroom retreat with an en suite bathroom, updated windows and flooring throughout the home as well as creating a custom-built desk and mudroom off the garage to help keep everyday necessities organized. The existing kitchen of this traditional “5/4 and a door” Colonial home was too tight and lacked adequate storage for daily necessities. The kitchen was expanded to the rear a scant 8 feet – just enough to make it function for the family of six to all be in the space at the same time.

A double vanity with everything this client needed. Storage for linens and towels along with other bath necessities are hidden inside the tall pale blue cabinetry, centered between the bleached wood vanities. The multi-blue hued tile backsplash reminded her of fish scales. Modern and minimalist wall sconces brings out the sparkle in the tile.

This Jersey City apartment is full of hidden surprises! The homeowners wanted to create a space that could function as their living, dining, and entertainment area. This Bernal junior home had a spectacular view that no one could see. Standard of junior floor plans of the era, the bathroom and kitchen had tiny windows that tied up some of the best space the home had to offer. A complete renovation and addition to this home doubled its living space allowing us to capture the view and provide ample space for modern living. Bi-folding NanaWall and a seamless concrete finish bring the outside in and inextricably tie this home to the uninterrupted panorama. Constructed at the end of the project, the deck proves that necessity is the mother of invention. Given budget and access constraints, it was not possible to excavate any more foundations. The braced structural supports provide the innovative solution without relinquishing aesthetic and function, allowing the concrete floors to spill out and provide access to the back garden. Given the transformation this project offered, renderings of the proposed spaces early in the process enabled the owners to visualize and add the finishing touches to complete their new home.
