As the pandemic hit many of our homeowners found themselves home more often and spending more time on their hobbies. This homeowner in Tower Grove took to her creative side and asked us to construct a Pottery Studio for her. Pairing her design eye with ours we developed a plan to create an open, light filled studio that would surely give her energy and get the creativity flowing. Now she can create her beautiful art without leaving her home.

When it became apparent mid-pandemic that “working from home” was going to be more than a short-term gig, this repeat client decided it was time to seriously upgrade her professional digs. Having worked together previously, this owner-designer-builder team quickly realized that the dilapidated detached garage was the perfect She-Shed location, but a full-teardown was in order. Programmatically, the design team was tasked with accommodating sports equipment, stroller parking, an exercise bike, wine storage, a lounge area, and of course, a workstation for this busy mama.

We built this new Timbertech in 2018 and a few years later, these homeowners got a new Hot Tub under the deck and was looking for privacy. We then built a horizontal decking privacy wall to match the decking. We also wrapped the footing posts and beams to complete their backyard deck project. Wall looks great and really completes the final look of the whole project. With this stay-at-home pandemic – the homeowners have much more time to enjoy the privacy in their new hot tub.

The primary bedroom was an addition to this waterfront home and we added character with bold board-and-batten statement wall, rich natural textures, and brushed metals. The primary bathroom received a custom white oak vanity that spanned over nine feet long, brass and matte black finishes, and an oversized steam shower in Zellige-inspired tile.

Our house was built 70 years ago by a camellia enthusiast, Dr. J.M. Habel. For whatever reason, nature rewarding us after a hard year of the pandemic, or the 6" of rain we got in February, but the hundreds of camellias he planted, bred, and nurtured, exploded in flowers this year and put on a dazzling show. When the school garden teacher at my kid’s school asked if I would volunteer to design the schools learning garden I was excited by the prospect. I drew up some plans with hopes of inspiring the next generation to getting involved with stewardship of the land. The goal was to create a space were children all abilities could have access to the process of growing food, tending to soils and recognizing the human connection with the natural world. With an emphasis on edible plants, the garden also incorporates native plants, plants that attract pollinators and plants that build soil. The garden includes a composting system, and a log circle to use as and out door classroom space. Unfortunately, half way through the installation of this garden the school was closed due to covid and no one was allowed on campus for 6 months. The garden fell into disrepair. As we slowly emerge from the pandemic the school is coming back to life and parent volunteers are allowed back on to campus. With that the garden is coming back as well. The rain harvesting nets and outdoor kitchen did not end up coming into reality. But through the pandemic we learned an even grater importance of outdoor class room space and the power of engaging with the outdoor world.

These MOSS customers, who previously had MOSS remodel their kitchen in 2016, realized during the pandemic that they wanted to be able to spend more time outdoors with family and friends. Their original deck was much smaller in size and scope until this recent update, which included adding a great deal of square footage, a new set of stairs to get to the backyard, and an update using all Trex material. With the expansion this family can truly enjoy the outdoors with plenty of extra room!
