Completed in 2025, this 278 sqft home gym in Santa Barbara was designed to support a wellness focused lifestyle within the comfort of a private residence. Carved into a dedicated area of the home, the space balances functionality with refined aesthetics. Natural wood finishes meet a muted color palette to create a calm and grounded atmosphere. Full-height mirrors expand the spatial perception, while tailored zones accommodate a range of activities from yoga and cardio to strength training. The space features a suspended punching bag, smart treadmill, spin bike, and a dedicated area for mat workouts. Custom storage seamlessly integrates kettlebells, medicine balls, towels, and accessories. The lighting concept enhances both mood and usability. Adjustable blinds allow soft daylight to filter in, while recessed linear LEDs in the ceiling introduce a warm and inviting ambiance. This project encompasses the renovation of two aging metal warehouses located on an acre just North of the 610 loop. The larger warehouse, previously an auto body shop, measures 6000 square feet and will contain a residence, art studio, and garage. A light well puncturing the middle of the main residence brightens the core of the deep building. The over-sized roof opening washes light down three masonry walls that define the light well and divide the public and private realms of the residence. The interior of the light well is conceived as a serene place of reflection while providing ample natural light into the Master Bedroom. Large windows infill the previous garage door openings and are shaded by a generous steel canopy as well as a new evergreen tree court to the west.
