Randy Angell, Designer GOLD International Award of Excellence winner - The transitional modern home was designed with large amounts of glass opening into the courtyard, creating an indoor-outdoor feel, and a visual connection among the spaces that could not be ignored. The neighboring wall, however, was not only rather imposing, but also of a style completely disconnected from our clients home. Our goal was to create a layering effect, with features of varying heights, both to add depth and dimension to the space, and to take the focus of the viewer off of the neighbor's wall.

A talented interior designer was ready for a complete redo of her 1980s style kitchen in Chappaqua. Although very spacious, she was looking for better storage and flow in the kitchen, so a smaller island with greater clearances were desired. Grey glazed cabinetry island balances the warm-toned cerused white oak perimeter cabinetry. On this project, our aim was to maximize storage and organization in the pantry for this family of five. This family previously had the common complaint that their pantry was always message and that they could never find what they wanted. To address this, we created provided a large amount of shelving, including key sections that slide out to provide better access to the items in the back. In addition, since their refrigerator didn't fit in the space that was created for it, we converted that into a pantry nook for even more storage. White melamine was used to mange cost and create a clean look, and the barn door on the main pantry provides a nice accent.

"In this fun kitchen renovation project, Andrea Langford was contacted by a repeat customer to turn an out of date kitchen into a modern, open kitchen that was perfect for entertaining guests. In the new kitchen design the worn out laminate cabinets and soffits were replaced with larger cabinets that went up to the ceiling. This gave the room a larger feel, while also providing more storage space. Rutt handcrafted cabinets were finished in white and grey to give the kitchen a unique look. A new elegant quartz counter-top and marble mosaic back splash completed the kitchen transformation. The idea behind this kitchen redesign was to give the space a more modern feel, while still complimenting the traditional features found in the rest of the colonial style home. For this reason, Andrea selected transitional style doors for the custom cabinetry. These doors featured a style and rail design that paid homage to the traditional nature of the house. Contemporary stainless steel hardware and light fixtures gave the space the tasteful modern twist the clients had envisioned. For the floor, large porcelain faux-wood tiles were used to provide a low-maintenance and modern alternative to traditional wood floors. The dark brown hue of the tiles complimented the grey and white tones of the kitchen and were perfect for warming up the space. In the bar area, custom wine racks and a wine cooler were installed to make storing wine and wine glasses a breeze. A cute small round 9” stainless steel under mount sink gives a perfect spot to keep champagne on ice while entertaining guests. The new design also created a small desk space by the pantry door that provides a functional space to charge mobile devices and store the home phone and other miscellaneous items." - Andrea Langford Designs

New built-in cabinets were fabricated and installed to provide extra storage. One interesting detail, the slots above the cabinet doors are slots to allow air to flow out since the cabinet was installed over a hvac vent that could not be relocated. So a duct was installed the entire length of the cabinet and is concealed by the crown molding.

The idea for this powder room was to provide the essentials with cluttering up the space. simple lines, hidden accent lighting. The vanity mirror was placed to the side on purpose to provide a full height viewing area

Custom wood diamond bin racks and individual slots offer display and storage of wine bottles. Wood top provides surface for tasting counter. Stone accent wall contributes to the rustic theme.

The home office was placed in the corner with ample desk/counter space. The base cabinets provide space for a pull out drawer to house a printer and hanging files. For this kitchen and bath remodel in San Francisco's Cole Valley, our client wanted us to open the kitchen up to the living room and create a new modern feel for all of the remodeled areas. Opening the kitchen to the living area provided a structural challenge as the wall we had to remove was load-bearing and there was a separately owned condo on the floor below. Working closely with a structural engineer, we created a strategy to carry the weight to the exterior walls of the building. In order to do this we had to tear off the entire roof and rebuild it with new structural joists which could span from property line to property line. To achieve a dramatic daylighting effect, we created a slot skylight over the back wall of the kitchen with the beams running through the skylight. Cerulean blue, back-painted glass for the backsplash and a thick waterfall edge for the island add more distinctive touches to this kitchen design. In the master bath we created a sinuous counter edge which tracks its way to the floor to create a curb for the shower. Green tile imported from Morocco adds a pop of color in the shower and a custom built indirect LED lighting cove creates a glow of light around the mirror. Photography by Christopher Stark.
