Meadowlark Design+Build

I approached Meadowlark with the need for a significant renovation to transform a poorly laid out bathroom/spa into a safe, first floor accessible bathroom suite for an elderly client/friend following a fall and broken hip. I laid out an aggressive goal of compressing the design/build schedule as my friend would need to remain in a rehab center while the project was completed. The following business day Meadowlark’s President Melissa Kennedy met me on site and brought their head of construction, and project manager ready to get to work. (I was impressed). I provided them with a clear scope of work and challenged them on how much they could compress the schedule as we needed the project finished yesterday. Eight weeks later we brought my friend home from rehab to a much safer, redesigned home. The eight weeks included both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. At the top of the list of Meadowlark’s strengths are their people and leadership, and willingness to challenge themselves. Most contractors would have politely explained that my goals were unachievable. Second would be their handling of inevitable issues that arise in any remodeling project. I can’t say enough about Sarah Petersen, our Project Manager, who was key. A firm is only as good as their employees and pool of contractors, especially in our circumstances, and Meadowlark has a pool of high quality contractors. As we neared the completion concerns arose about everything being ready for a safe return home, and Melissa and Sarah met me onsite on a Sunday morning to review remaining work. The relationships Meadowlark has with their contractors became clear by how contractors responded to insure final details were completed. Meadowlark was also able to include refinishing the home’s wood floors and incorporate a new powder room and laundry facilities to the project scope without delaying the schedule. Due to the circumstances the project was structured on a time and materials basis. There are few contractors I would trust with this arrangement on something this size. While transparency could have been improved I am satisfied with the resulting total costs and Meadowlark deserved every penny of the margin earned on this project. Overall A+.

We recently completed numerous small-to-medium sized projects with Meadlowlark Design+Build via their Encore Projects department. The work included (but was not limited to) selecting and installing a new bathroom vanity, frameless sliding shower doors, a new kitchen range hood and backsplash, installing new custom blinds, and more. Each of these projects could potentially be viewed as relatively simple or straightforward, but it would be a mistake to do so in my opinion. In reality, they all contained various nuances and complexities that required flexibility, creativity, expertise, and continuous quality control in order to properly sort. I give MDB's Encore Projects team 5 stars with no hesitation, as they exhibited all of these attributes and many more. The craftspersons (e.g. carpenter, plumber, electrician, etc) who visited our home exude skill and professionalism. Most importantly, the project management provided by Sarah - including ongoing communications, scheduling, budgeting, QC, and much more - was best-in-class! Knowing that Sarah would ensure the projects would be done in a quality way - even if that meant a delay or plan adjustment here or there - has been hugely reassuring, and gives us confidence to pursue projects that increase our daily enjoyment at home. As busy working parents juggling many balls in the air, we have felt great peace of mind in each of our projects knowing that Sarah was steering the ship.

Meadowlark truly helped bring our vision for our custom home to life. We worked with them throughout the entire design and construction process, and couldn't be happier with their work. They were creative and collaborative throughout the design process, and brought excellent ideas to make our home more environmentally friendly. After having at least three other contractors look at my deck repair/update I became frustrated with their responses and solutions. I needed at least 5 posts replaced due to rot at the base. I finally had people from Meadowlark come review my project. They were able to replace all my posts and also add one for stability on my front deck. I also expressed my wish to update my front deck with a trex floor and a cable railing. I couldn’t be happier with the quality of workmanship and the timeliness that the project was completed in. Compared to other contractors I had consulted with I believe their pricing was not only fair but reasonable! Thank you Meadowlark!

Meadowlark did a beautiful job on my basement project, finishing a lower level walkout. The project final cost was incredibly close to the initial estimate provided. The design support saved me a lot of time. And the finished project is stunning. I brought my design ideas to the project and the team really listened and executed on the vision to a level I didn't even expect. The finished project is highly functional and comfortable. I honestly couldn't imagine a more beautiful space. Furthermore, the team was easy to work with and did a great job being responsive when emergencies arose (which will inevitably happen on a big project). I was very happy with all of the subcontractors and the great communication. I couldn't recommend Meadowlark more highly.

Our experience with Meadowlark was excellent from our very first contact with them about our project all the way through design, construction, and follow-up. We chose Meadowlark for our complete kitchen remodel because of the high-quality work we saw at their home remodeling tour houses and because of their friendly, attentive, and professional staff. Our biggest reservation about Meadowlark was that most of the showcase projects on social media have a more contemporary style than our wishes. It was not a problem. The design team listened to our needs and absorbed our inspirational photos (thanks Adele) to create wonderful design options which lead to a collaborative process and … a great kitchen with additional changes to most rooms of the main floor. The original estimates for the project cost and timeline were almost spot-on! As with any custom project there were unforeseen problems which were all rectified quickly. One of their vendors even drove across three states during the night to deliver a key missing cabinet panel. We highly recommend Meadowlark and will use them again for future projects.

We did an entire kitchen renovation with Meadowlark and they were fantastic to work with. Our project with Meadowlark involved updating an 85 year old home that had been added on to several times and need to flow better and become more user friendly. From the start of the design process all the way through to the completion of the project, the Meadowlark employees were professional, responsive, creative and provided a top notch product. The craftsmanship is amazing, and the process was painless. They are real professionals and we are %100 happy with the end result.

We were extremely happy with Meadowlark Design+Build. Our project involved turning an exterior porch into an interior living space. Everyone involved in the project -- from the management at Meadowlark, to the project managers assigned to our job, to the individual contractors -- was always professional, courteous and responsive. Nearly each stage of the project was done on time or ahead of time. When there were delays -- caused by supply chain issues or difficulties with scheduling subcontractors -- the project managers always communicated proactively and clearly about the cause of the delay and when we could expect progress. Meadowlark also did an excellent job mitigating the impact construction has on a household. They always cleaned up at the end of the day and were careful to work around our schedules when work would be noisy or otherwise disturbing. Meadowlark is more expensive than other contractors we got bids from but their emphasis on design, quality building and customer service makes it worth the extra money. We will definitely use Meadowlark for any future home renovation or construction.

Our 85 year-old house needed updates in layout/function, infrastructure and windows. We wanted the project to be professionally managed and interviewed several design/build firms. We chose Meadowlark based on its commitment to customer satisfaction, how we connected with all of their people, and examples of past work. The designers took time to understand our personalities, goals and vision-enabling them to present options that saved us time while keeping the home’s character intact. They did onsite pre-construction “recon” to improve design and prepare for hidden surprises. Our project manager expertly oversaw construction—providing daily updates and regular review/decision meetings. He ensured the work matched our expectations. There were issues with materials/measurements/quality—mistakes happen. In every case Meadowlark acknowledged the issue, offered real solutions (not excuses) and made it right. This peace of mind greatly reduced the stress of a major remodel. Our collaborative efforts resulted in a beautiful, functional, comfortable home. We highly recommend Meadowlark. Meadowlark was not our cheapest option, but they turned out to be the best and well worth the money. Everything about the process was clearly communicated, and the project came in under budget and ahead of schedule. The process included not only planning and construction, but designing right from the beginning. Our project was mostly an exterior facelift. All of our windows (except the basement) were replaced, the siding on the front of the house was replaced, and the front porch was rebuilt. The trim around the roof was replaced along with all of the soffits, and some exterior lighting was replaced. Working with the designers was a real pleasure. They listened well to our needs and hopes, and presented us with options that matched (and inspired new ideas) without overwhelming us with too many options. There was one error in the initial design, but when it was discovered, they took full responsibility and made it right without passing the additional costs on to us. They keep their promises, and that’s important to me. The trades people were some of the best. I thought some of the contractors I spoke with before were good, but these people saw important details the others had missed or misinterpreted, and explained things so clearly. The project manager was so attentive and communicated so well, with daily email updates and answering all of my questions. He even answered questions I hadn’t asked because I was publishing a blog about the project and he was following it. They went the extra mile and then some. They even gave us a gift of a bench for the front porch. It was not part of the project, but they saw a picture I had mocked up showing how I might use the new porch. I would recommend Meadowlark to anyone willing to pay a bit more to avoid the problems of most contractors, and who want to work in a fun collaboration with real designers.

The design team was incredibly thorough and sensitive to our budget while always displaying imagination and creativity to help us envision what we could do with our space. The design selections (from layout, to cabinetry, to lighting, and so on) were distinctive and creative, and while we were provided a number of options, we never felt overwhelmed. Amber was particularly helpful in matching our specific taste(s) to color schemes and fixtures, so that we were ultimately in love with our choices. During the construction phase, our project manager, Jason, was always - that's worth repeating, ALWAYS available whenever we had any questions or concerns. He elicited great confidence from us and consistently demonstrated empathy and respect regardless of our questions or concerns. There was never a time we did not feel he was at our disposal ,and he was able to shepherd our remodel from conception to actualization and, amazingly, did so ahead of schedule! . We have been in our new space for over 4 months (this review is very overdue!) and we can honestly say that it is everything we imagined and we are still in love with the transformation. We hired Meadowlark to take on our huge master bathroom renovation and we're so happy that we did. Hiring a company we trusted to take on the project was important because our bathroom is on the third floor of our home in a historic building on a busy street without private parking in the middle of downtown Ann Arbor...so a bit complicated. I can't speak highly enough about the team. We came with a clear vision of what we wanted and our designers Amy and Melissa were perfect for us because they understood our style and were able to help us design the bathroom of our dreams. We also appreciated their honesty when we were stuck in making some decisions. During the design process, they were also great with those details that one would never even think about. Amy and Melissa were fun to work with -- our personalities completely meshed. We also enjoyed working with Tony, our project manager. He was always accessible when we needed to communicate with him and he made sure his crew doing the work was respectful of our space. He coordinated our project so that most of the time we didn't even see the crew in our space because they used our fire escape connected to the bathroom. He made sure our living space was protected from damage the few times they couldn't get the larger items up the fire escape. As with any major project, nothing can be perfect from start to finish and when we had a couple minor hiccups, Tony found a solution immediately. I highly recommend Meadowlark because they are client focused and have a high integrity to complete projects that far exceed the client's expectations.

We built our dream home with Meadowlark and they did a fabulous job. The design/architect team lead by Melissa was easy and fun to work with, Doug was so helpful in introducing us to a new way of building (with durisol which we are so glad we did) and to energy efficient solutions. The building process supervised by Al was almost stress free and the result is the house that WE WANTED. What is really great is that even now, years after we moved in, we can still reach out to Meadowlark and ask for their advice on the tiny things that are involved in the maintenance. Honestly, we were really stressed before beginning to build. But in the end it was a great experience and we know this is because we worked with Meadowlark.

Meadowlark first helped us with renovating our newly purchased home five years ago (bathroom, hardwood floors, home color pallet, basement insulation, structural changes) and they have continued to partner with us on home improvement as our needs have evolved. The design service is simply excellent. They really took time to understand our vision for the color and feel of the space to create something beautiful, functional and unique. Everyone we interacted with was responsive, innovative, considerate, and committed to getting the job done correctly. We have been able to go back to them for advice and they always take time to help. Working with Meadowlark takes the stress out of home renovation process.

Finished Basement Project schedule quoted 14-16 weeks, actual 52 weeks. Due to improper cabinets ordered, then poor quality cabinets, and NO RECOVERY plan from the Program Manager along with other things. We went with Meadowlark to reduce the burden on ourselves to manage the project, but had to manage all the details just to get it done when if finally was.

Working with Meadowlark was a terrific experience. They are total professionals, with a passion for excellence, and their workmanship was outstanding. We are happy to recommend them to others. They have followed up in the two years since completion to handle a couple of minor issues that have come up, and we appreciate their willingness to stand by their work with their warranty.

My family relocated to Ann Arbor for work at the University. I discovered Meadowlark while touring the Burns Park and Ann Arbor Hills neighborhoods with my realtor. Their signs were prominent, the project construction sites were clean, and their website showed their work done on historic homes. After our initial meeting I knew I could trust them with the remodel of our 1890's Victorian. This was my third major renovation project and I found their design and construction process clear and simple. A wonderful company to work with complete with professional, dedicated, and knowledgeable staff. They recently completed an addition for us on our almost 100 year old home and seamlessly integrated the new space in with the old. I can not recommend them highly enough.

Simply the best. We began working with Meadowlark in 2015, initially to help us scope and budget for a number of interconnected projects, and ultimately to design and build out an exterior remodel of our small Cape Cod in Ann Arbor. We couldn't be happier with the final result, and couldn't have achieved that result without Meadowlark. At the design phase, they accounted for our preferences and vision, while steering us away from choices that would have detracted from the house's aesthetic. During the build phase, they selected top-notch contractors that worked with us on the job site to improve the design in real time, correct unforeseen issues as they popped up, and execute the project with precision and finesse. When I walk through and around the house now, I see dozens of small things that they suggested (or simply did without us asking) that few other builders (perhaps no other builder in this area) would have thought to do--e.g., extra width on certain exterior trim pieces, insulating the home's basement bond as part of the larger insulation project, adding the double-post look on the front porch, and others. These details and choices add up to a finished product that looks better than we believed it could. Meadowlark was not the cheapest option, but they told us up front what we were going to spend, and finished the project on time and on budget. And even though we spent a bit more up front, the choices they made and their efficient project management likely saved us thousands along the way, and simply transformed the exterior of our home.

Living up to their reputation, Meadowlark did our first floor remodel while staying on schedule and on budget. Their meticulous planning process really paid off. We did a complete first floor remodel of our 1970's house (complete with a 1970's kitchen) with the intention of updating and getting more space in the kitchen, opening up the other living spaces and improving the view of our patio and backyard. The design that they came up with was innovative and highly functional. It also included moving a bathroom and creating a mudroom, drop zone and pantry -- all within the existing space. We replaced the floors, trim and some walls. We really couldn't be happier with the finished product. The build process started on time and stayed on schedule. The staff subcontractors were really nice and made it possible for us to stay in our house during the 4 month process. They kept the space clear and honored our schedule - not arriving until we left for work and finishing before we got home. They were especially nice to our large and overly-friendly dog. The staff at Meadowlark became like family -- our dog still gets super excited when they stop by. Also, they live up to their warranty! Six months after the job was finished, we've had a couple of things that needed to be adjusted and they happily came out and fixed them. P.S, The dog still misses them.

I contacted Meadowlark regarding an update of our kitchen. We are in the beginning stages of a plan and trying to find a independent designer to help us with the most cost effective method to pull us out of the 80's and into the 21st century. Melissa was very quick to reply, knowledgeable and extremely helpful in getting us started in the right direction.

We gave Meadowlark quite a challenge: Take a modest little brick house and turn it into a spacious, light-filled beautiful home--while we were still living in DC and the house (and Meadowlark Builders) were in Ann Arbor. We knew wanted more space, everything new, lots of windows with a style that reflected our "eclectic" taste and retained some of the features of the 1950s era house. We worked with a wonderful team who helped us establish a communication system that worked very well thanks to their dedication and flexibiltiy plus iPhone photos, long emails and lots of conference calls. The project manager, designer and on-site manager were exceptionally professional and clearly committed to creating the best possible home for us. Everyone who worked on the house was highly skilled as well as respectful of our needs and desires. And when the house was finished, everyone was proud of the home we had created together. We always recommend Meadowlark to anyone who is considering building or remodeling.

Meadowlark recently completed a complicated re-model on our home that is an extraordinary success. Our assigned job boss, John Crawford, was terrific in many respects but most importantly in the following two ways. He made an early engineering/design suggestion that actually advanced our goal of opening up our space and saved us money. Second, he staged the roof removal and replacement sequence in a way that made the two of us sleep better but did not slow the project down. He was a pleasure to work with in every way. Every Meadowlark employee who came into our house was not only a highly skilled professional but as well someone who respected the fact that we two were living and working in the same space.

Meadowlark designed and remodeled our kitchen in 2016. Overall they did incredible work - from the first design consultation to the final construction walk through. Pricing was fair, I'd even call it a bargain when I hear all the problems our friends have had with remodeling projects. Their design help was invaluable - while we had done extensive research into features and finishes that we liked, they introduced us to ideas that really made everything better than we were hoping for. Just a great team to work with, The craftsmanship of their work is over the top - even with our modest budget. It makes such a difference to have great communication between their designer team and their construction team. On numerous occasions, our project manager/lead carpenter identified opportunities to finesse a design on-site, even though it meant more work for him (and no additional charge to us!). He did it just because he had the skills to make something great, and he paid attention to what we wanted, I highly recommend Meadowlark Builders for anyone considering a home remodeling project that wants an inspired design and fine craftsmanship at a fair price. They are wonderful people to work with.

Our project initially was just new windows and siding. The final project included a new larger kitchen, a mudroom and back porch, and converting a small bedroom into a room with a full bath and walk-in closet. The design for this whole project was excellent. We appreciated the high quality and creative work. We are very happy with Meadowlark, and would recommend them as high quality builders.

In 2012 Meadowlark performed energy efficiency testing for us and they expertly insulated our attic and sealed our home. When planning our home’s 2015 exterior remodel they were the only company we contacted. This remodel included new siding, soffits, gutters and downspouts, renovation of the front porch, addition of insulation to specific walls as well as several small updates to our home’s interior. Design Manager Melissa Kennedy carefully listened to our wants and worked through our project wish list with us. She and her team turned our high level preferences into the colors, patterns and materials that resulted in a beautiful exterior. Project Manager John Crawford fully coordinated and synchronized the work of many fine subcontractors. He was great at keeping us totally informed on next steps, day to day schedules and the financial status of our program. We did encounter an issue with Carter Lumber, the subcontractor for installation of our siding. Carter’s delivery of material was both incorrect and haphazard. Over the course of several weeks, Carter proved to be unreliable, irresponsible and unresponsive, showing no commitment to our project. Needing a fundamental change, we requested help from Doug Selby, Meadowlark’s CEO. Our substantiated request resulted in Carter’s immediate dismissal from the project. A crew of Meadowlark employees headed by Framing Crew Manager Ken Thybault was put in place. Ken met with us the morning after we contacted Doug. Called upon to quickly and literally pick up the pieces under difficult circumstances, Ken and his Meadowlark installation team turned in nothing short of a flawless performance. His team’s painstaking efforts and relentless attention to detail were remarkable. Removing the deficient subcontractor and inserting Ken’s crew instantly changed the installation phase of our renovation project from a big concern to an unqualified success. The possibility of problems is a reality in any project. The subcontractor issue we encountered is not the basis of our overall rating. Our rating is based on the fact that Meadowlark listened to us throughout the project, they always respected our opinions, they responded immediately when we requested their help and they completed all work to our total satisfaction. We will continue to work with them on future home improvement needs and, without any reservations, we recommend the Meadowlark team to anyone considering their own renovation project.

Meadowlark completely reconfigured the living/dining/kitchen space in our condo. A total transformation that gave us the house of our dreams! Custom cabinets, open shelving, a waterfall counter island, a more efficient laundry, stunning powder room and cleverly concealed entryway closet. Our new place has significant WOW! factor, and is a wonderfully warm home. Plus, they were terrific to work with every step of the way!

My experience with Meadowlark on a medium-size remodel lived up to their reputation for great design, practicality, and attention to detail. My dad was a builder so I expected glitches but any problem was solved with concern and creativity. The process was collaborative - they listened to my vague thoughts and developed strong clear ideas. They're not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. What I didn't expect was to so enjoy the process - all the Meadowlark people were great to work with, and especially the designer and the team lead made the process nearly stress-free (it was, after all, a renovation) and remarkably fun. The final result really feels like MY home!

We started to work with Meadowlark Builders in 2013 because we wanted to build a custom environment friendly house. We selected them because (1) they are one of the very few builders in southeastern Michigan focusing on green custom homes and (2) they have a comprehensive offer tying design and construction. The staff at Meadowlark helped us with all aspects of the project: site search, design, finance, etc. Although the design phase was iterative, the team could move as fast or as slow as we wanted. The nice part is that we had a very detailed plan (down to the door knobs!) and cost structure before breaking ground. Only a few modifications were done during construction. This was key for us to avoid any (bad) surprise. The construction was mostly on schedule with very frequent updates from the project manager. All of the issues were brought upfront and we always found satisfying resolutions. Last but not least, Meadowlark stay the course! Even after we moved in, the team stayed engaged to take care of remaining details. Building a new house is a massive project that can be pretty stressful. Meadowlark did their very best to ease the process. The entire team is very professional, knowledgeable and focus on customer satisfaction.

They added a house onto our house. I joke a litte, but our house was built before 1901 with various additions added over the last 100 years. The additions were riddle with problems, poor heating, foundation, etc. Meadowlark came in, did some drawings, remove some of the poor additions and tied a new 2 story addition into the original pre-1901 house. They boosted insulation everywhere, removed the knob-tube wiring, and tied into our old uneven, un-level house beautifully and with the style reflecting the period of the original house (with the benefits and updates of living in the 21st century).

Meadowlark did a fairly complex job for me that involved a lot of exterior components (straightening a 1940s garage & repairing its foundation, new roof and insulation, plus some new roofline elements, new front porch, and new deck/stairway. They did both design and construction work. I chose Meadowlark based on their reputation and their responsiveness. I love the outcome, although during the project there were the usual issues with delays and errors. All personnel (both Meadowlark and subcontractors were pleasant and professional). Errors were fully corrected and the quality of the completed work is high.

Meadowlark designed and implemented an exterior remodel - new longer windows, insulation/air sealing, hardie board siding, enlarged porch & patio, metal roof plus main level gut/remodel. This included a brand new kitchen, laundry, mud room, guest bedroom, music room, foyer and living room improvements. We love the results!

I have used Meadowlark builders for a large renovation as well as smaller work in the past. I have had consistently wonderful service and got a great addition. I have known Doug Selby, the owner, for years and he is helpful, approachable, and honest. When I had the renovation done, Meadowlark designed the space with me and their designer (Melissa Kennedy) helped me with everything involved--choosing tile, colors, etc. The team lead for the project (Joe Scanlon) was always around and available so I could get questions and concerns addressed. The renovation is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. Over the past few years they have also stood behind their work, returning to help if anything broke. While Meadowlark may not be the lowest bid, in the end I feel that I got a product with a known price, that I can enjoy for years. They stood by their quote and didn't add stress to my life with many unexpected costs. I would use Meadowlark again in the future!

We worked with Meadowlark on an addition and some re-configuration of existing spaces in our small house. This was our first time doing this sort of thing. First things first, they were not cheap (and freely admitted as much from the get-go). And even allowing as we did for the unexpected, we wound up spending probably 20-25% more than we planned to based on our initial discussions. However, at the end of the process we felt very strongly that the value was there. All the work performed was excellent (by both Meadowlark employees and all but one or two of the subs, though even these were fine). We were also especially pleased with the design team and our project manager was excellent. Once work began things really kept moving on schedule and in line with what we were led to expect. The only relatively minor hiccups we encountered had to do with a bit of a delay in getting our project rolling, and some errors/mis-communications between the design dept. and the folks doing the ordering but these were resolved to our satisfaction.

We have a home that is 90 years old. While it is charming it does have challenges. We were interested in creating a space in our basement for our teenagers to enjoy and also use the space in a more organized way. The ceiling was too low to pass code and that was only the beginning of our special considerations. The thing that impressed us the most working with Meadowlark is they were constantly thinking "outside the box" when it came to solutions to address the unique challenges we had with the space and were able to identify them before we started so they were spot on with the estimate we received. The design team(Melissa) was fabulous to work with and kept our budget in mind when making suggestions. Meadowlark was respectful of our space and a pleasure to have working in our home. Kirk was readily available if we had questions and responsive to our concerns. We use the space daily, LOVE IT and would not change a thing!

I hired Meadowlark Builders in 2011 to perform a complete renovation of my 2nd floor & basement. They gutted them, provided spray foam insulation, & installed new interior finishes. They fixed some minor structural issues that existed from when the house was built & an earlier renovation. They finished the job on time & within budget. All finishes & fixtures are top quality. Their interior trim carpenter was the best I have seen. They responded promptly to some minor issues after completion. Here it gets really good. A problem we addressed was the on going water penetration in the basement. I live in an area severely impacted by the Aug 2014 floods. I suffered no major damage, whereas nearly all of my neighbors suffered catastrophic flood damage. This was not lucky, this was proper preparation. I would hire Meadowlark Builders again because I know I would get exceptional professionalism and top quality

We worked with Meadowlark on two home improvement projects. The first project involved a 2 story addition to our home and it went so well that when it was time for our second project, Meadowlark was the only builder we contacted. They did a great job managing the projects within budget and schedule, did beautiful work, and even though we were living in a construction zone it was not a problem because everyone on the job was so polite and they kept a very tidy work site. I highly recommend Meadowlark and plan to use them again for future projects.

My wife and I hired Meadowlark in 2012 to turn our second floor garage space into an office. They were (and are) a pleasure to work with. From the in-house design through construction and into warrenty repairs (hey, they happen) they are always quick to respond, polite, and operate with high standards. They are a local company, and operate as a design/build firm; common in commercial construction but less so in residential. I'm happy we went this route, as the detailed design and cost breakdowns were completed before we accepted the contract. No surprise cost increases or unpaid subcontractors as a result. They are certainly not the cheapest option in town, but they will do an excellent job, and will work incredibly hard to ensure your remodel / construction project is as stress-free as possible for you.

Meadowlark fully renovated my basement and I couldn't have had a better experience. This was my fifth or so renovation project so I've had some experience with a variety of contractors/builders/trades. Until the experience with Meadowlark, I had always project managed my projects myself in an effort to both save money and retain control. However, I am SO happy that I found Meadowlark and that I was able to take advantage of such a talented and reliable project management. That was definitely a differentiator in working with them. The design process was another differentiator. I was able to efficiently and effectively use a combination of Houzz ideabooks and Pinterest boards to convey what I was looking for to Meadowlark Design. They did an excellent job of using that to develop schematics and drawings in very few meetings--ultimately saving me money. I also LOVE that practical energy savings/efficiency is part of the foundation of Meadowlark's approach so that if we ran into HVAC or insulation-related issues, they were more than prepared to handle them. Another unique element of working with Meadowlark is how clearly they communicate. They set expectations and work to meet or exceed those or clearly communicate when they can't, why, and how they plan to address it. Seriously, this project was a DELIGHT. The staff is professional, super talented, humorous and a joy to work with. I would do another project with them in a heartbeat. I still look to them for advice on small day-to-day house questions and they're happy to share their knowledge.

We hired Meadowlark Builders for a major remodel of our home this past year. Our goal was to improve our energy efficiency and remodel to make our space better fit our lifestyle. We did an energy audit, upgraded our furnace and insulated, combined two bedrooms into one, built a custom closet, remodeled our family room with custom cabinetry and built a office/guest room in our lower level. We had seen Meadowlark's work in other homes in our neighborhood and were impressed by the quality of the workmanship. We met initially with Doug Selby, one of the owners. Doug quickly earned our trust with his down-to-earth candor and great suggestions. We had an outstanding experience with the Meadowlark Design team. Remodeling involves many decisions and it's easy to get overwhelmed with options. The design team was exceptional at assessing our style and preferences through both an onsite visit and pictures we flagged through Houzz and making recommendations (on layout and selection of wood, paint, lighting and tile) we absolutely loved but would probably have had a hard time identifying independently. They made what might have been a stressful process really enjoyable. We have marveled at how many little, but very thoughtful design elements (like a permanent nightlight at the base of a stairway and new automated lights in closets) have improved the user experience in our home. Our project manager was thorough, considerate, accessible, and dependable. He provided regular email updates proactively informing us about what was happening each week and keeping us on track regarding decisions we needed to make. We moved out of our house given the extensiveness of our remodel and we were very appreciative of creative scheduling that got us back in the house a week ahead of schedule. Meadowlark built custom cabinetry in our family room (an entertainment center and extensive shelving for toys, games, crafts and books), built a home office with a custom desk area specially adapted for my husband's musical studio and also built a custom walk-in closet out of gorgeous cherry and maple in the office. The wood work on the cabinetry is top quality and the attention to detail was extremely high. A few issues with finishing were painstakingly addressed very promptly. We also had all of the rooms renovated re-plastered and painted and the quality of this work was also beyond our expectations. Our walls look like they are brand-new drywall. Without exception, everyone we interacted with on the Meadowlark team was professional, respectful, and delivered top quality work. After our project was complete, Doug Selby did a post-remodel walk-through to assess our satisfaction and identify opportunities for improvement. This focus on quality improvement and understanding the customers' experience is very telling. We couldn't be happier with both our remodel and our experience in working with Meadowlark and are happy to provide an unqualified recommendation.

We undertook a major renovation, in two parts, with Meadowlark and from our first contact with Gary in the sales department through project implementation with John, we have been extremely happy with the Meadowlark team. Some highlights: We love the design work by Melissa and team. It is original, yet very tasteful. The design was not dictated by fads and we anticipate being very happy with our space for a very long time. The design process, which is necessarily very detail oriented, fits well with the budgeting process so we had a very clear as well as accurate assessment of project costs prior to the start of the renovation. There were no ugly surprises. Meadowlark will not start a project until they can be reasonably sure that they can adhere reasonably well to a project schedule so the project was completed pretty much on time. Our project manager was always available to us and did a great job making sure everything went as planned and the work being done was done well. So, great design, on budget and on time working with people whose company we thoroughly enjoyed. In the event that you're thinking this was written by a Meadowlark employee, I assure you it's not. Of course there were issues, but never an unresolved issue. PS. Did I mention that the quality of work was also excellent?

Design, craftsmanship, creativity and personnel--all were exceptional. They really understood the "look and feel" we wanted the house to have, and showed terrific commitment (even passion) to its design and construction. Their enthusiasm for the project rivaled ours. Meadowlark very successfully built us the home we had envisioned when we first thought about this project. Highly recommended.
