Interior design by others Our architecture team was proud to design this traditional, cottage inspired home that is tucked within a developed residential location in St. Louis County. The main levels account for 6097 Sq Ft and an additional 1300 Sq Ft was reserved for the lower level. The homeowner requested a unique design that would provide backyard privacy from the street and an open floor plan in public spaces, but privacy in the master suite. Challenges of this home design included a narrow corner lot build site, building height restrictions and corner lot setback restrictions. The floorplan design was tailored to this corner lot and oriented to take full advantage of southern sun in the rear courtyard and pool terrace area. There are many notable spaces and visual design elements of this custom 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom brick cottage home. A mostly brick exterior with cut stone entry surround and entry terrace gardens helps create a cozy feel even before entering the home. Special spaces like a covered outdoor lanai, private southern terrace and second floor study nook create a pleasurable every-day living environment. For indoor entertainment, a lower level rec room, gallery, bar, lounge, and media room were also planned.

The owners of this cottage are teachers who subdivided the neighbouring family cottage lot. The owners wanted a traditional, cozy but functional space to relax and spend their summers with family and friends. The cottage is set on a point of land and had many set back restrictions. The design resulted in a unique layout and features an all wood interior, a stone fireplace and reclaimed wood floors.

Restricted by a compact but spectacular waterfront site, this home was designed to accommodate a large family and take full advantage of summer living on Cape Cod. The open, first floor living space connects to a series of decks and patios leading to the pool, spa, dock and fire pit beyond. The name of the home was inspired by the family’s love of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series. The black pearl resides on the cap of the main stair newel post.

The kitchen sparkles like a jewel with it’s new open floor plan; gone is the restrictive Peninsula replaced with a longer Island and a sturdy long artisan table at the Island’s end. A dry Bar replaced the unused kitchen desk area and a built-in Banquet, bordered with a stepped-up base cabinet housing a Micro/Convection Oven, now offers additional seating when entertaining. The warm toasty finish of the Alder cabinetry is completed by the granite and tiled glass backsplash.

This family loves to cook and entertain and they were restricted by their confining kitchen. We took care of that by opening up the space and removing a wall to the dining room and one to the living room which made it a large welcoming and lovely eat in kitchen.

Staircase Design by Simply Exquisite Interiors - the focal point on entry of this compact residence. It's already the talk of the neighborhood and we expect it will be for a while to come.

When faced with restricted space, a bathroom that is semi-incorporated into the bedroom can be a great idea...if done correctly. By using beautifully crafted bathtubs and basins together with furniture-like cabinetry this can be achieved with contemporary style. We used the NERINA freestanding bathtub here made from DADOquartz. This material is warm and silky to the touch, creating a sense of calmness and elegance to the room.

Our objective on this kitchen was to make the kitchen more group friendly, as the existing peninsula essentially “trapped” guests and restricted flow in the kitchen. The Solution: The troublesome peninsula was removed to create room for a new island. A small pedestal table at the end of the island provides comfortable seating for three. Drawers offer additional storage and stained-glass pendant lights replace the outdated fluorescents. The new location of the island results in a U-shaped kitchen with much better flow. Small mosaics incorporated into the tumbled marble backsplash behind the stove mirror the look of stained glass.

The original pantry closet minimized and restricted what items could or couldn't be placed inside as well as harboring a great amount of dead space. By replacing it with a pantry cabinet, we were able to gain much needed space for food items while giving the ability/option for broom storage.

Dining room - tropical dining room idea in Tampa

The clients were dismayed by their front-yard view of busy Scott Boulevard in Decatur, but they did not want to be boxed in by an evergreen hedge. Utility wires restricted allowable plants in most areas. Native grasses, wildflowers were combined with native shrubs to screen the busy four-lane road and create four-season interest. Beautyberry, native grasses and "High Shoals" Eastern red cedar shown here.

A glance of the exterior reveals a simple story and a half gable running the length of the home, enveloping the majority of the interior spaces. To the rear, a pair of gables with copper roofing flanks a covered dining area and screened porch. Inside, a linear foyer reveals a generous staircase with cascading landing. Further back, a centrally placed kitchen is connected to all of the other main level entertaining spaces through expansive cased openings. A private study serves as the perfect buffer between the homes master suite and living room. Despite its small footprint, the master suite manages to incorporate several closets, built-ins, and adjacent master bath complete with a soaker tub flanked by separate enclosures for a shower and water closet. Upstairs, a generous double vanity bathroom is shared by a bunkroom, exercise space, and private bedroom. The bunkroom is configured to provide sleeping accommodations for up to 4 people. The rear-facing exercise has great views of the lake through a set of windows that overlook the copper roof of the screened porch below.
