Mia Rao Design created a classic modern kitchen for this Chicago suburban remodel. The dark stain on the rift cut oak, slab style cabinets adds warmth and contrast against the white Calacatta porcelain. The large island allows for seating, prep and serving space. Brass and glass accents add a bit of "pop".

These homeowners were looking for a complete overhaul and we were delighted to help them achieve it. We worked with them as they gutted and remodeled their first floor - impressively, doing much of their own work. They had a general idea of what they were looking for so we collaborated ideas to ensure we were designing exactly what they were envisioning their dream kitchen to be. We used blackened rift cut oak on slab doors with a dull rub finish to create the stark contrast between the cabinets and white countertops, walls and tile backsplash. To add extra contrast we used frosted glass doors with aluminum frames. Special features like the 2" thick matching, floating shelves, waterfall countertop, stainless steel toekick and farm sink ensured that this kitchen was entirely unique to our clients.

The master bedroom suite combines a home office with a sleeping area and intimate reading corner. Exterior views are private and take advantage of natural wooded landscaping. Rift cut oak veneer with its linear horizontal graining is used on all custom designed millwork. Flush millwork design is consistent with the minimalist aesthetic intent. Project SilverOaks' earthy kitchen brings colour into the kitchen to break up the space with its navy-blue panelled island. What could have been standard kitchen island corners was taken to the next level by bringing in curves and open shelving! The rounded kitchen island corners and countertop brings softness to the kitchen space and maximizes functionality. The kitchen island’s ‘corner’ open shelving allows for a personal touch by being able to display décor, cookbooks, or even a family picture!
