This project involved the complete transformation of a modern infill home to better align with the clients' tastes, needs, functionality, and style preferences. The renovation aimed to create a more personalized and functional kitchen that reflected the unique lifestyle and aesthetic choices of the homeowners. The previous design included one island which was too large for it to function correctly. Low quality cabinet materials which were de-laminating and with high gloss finishes that were not practical to their lifestyle. In the original design, unappealing yellow tones evoked a hospital-like feeling absorbing the iconic I-beam ceiling and concrete floors. The new goal and vision was to transform the kitchen into a warm welcoming environment with durable finishes, a countertop that was easy to clean and maintain and re-invent and improve the function and storage of the cabinetry. Ingredients include: Custom Slim Shaker Walnut cabinets and Self healing, fingerprint free black matte cabinets, Cambria Quartz countertops, brick tile accents to compliment the other existing architectural elements and a colourful chicklet tile which represented the clients love of pop art.

Inspiration for a contemporary light wood floor kitchen remodel in Baltimore with a single-bowl sink, light wood cabinets, solid surface countertops, metallic backsplash, mirror backsplash, stainless steel appliances, a peninsula and multicolored countertops

In early 2022, Mitchell & Best was contacted by a homeowner residing in a brick end-unit townhome that was originally built in 1979. The client was a friend of the company through prior business dealings and had originally considered a new custom single-family home through Mitchell & Best Next Door. After months of consideration and realization that they loved their current location and neighborhood, this couple – both attorneys and parents of a young child and a beloved elderly pet – decided to stay put and figure out how to make the floorplan better fit their family’s needs. The project’s Scope of Work included: Main Level - The plan re-organized the main floor, giving significantly more cooking, entertainment, and functional working space to the kitchen. All-new appliances, cabinetry, countertops, and extensive tile work were installed. The original oversized den was opened to the kitchen to create a generous dining space in the front of the house where natural light comes in. At the rear of the house, adjacent to the kitchen, a walk-up butler’s pantry/bar was created, and a new space was carved out for a private office accessed by a glass-front French pocket door. The office cabinetry was customized for the client’s needs with a built-in desk, bookshelves and sliding printer shelf. The Powder Room was also re-worked and with new plumbing and vanity is unrecognizable from its former self. Upper Level – In the Owner’s Bedroom, a deep closet was added with two sets of double doors. Most significantly on the upper level, the Owner’s Bathroom was completely re-worked to provide a wet room for the shower and free-standing tub. Spacious double vanity and a private water closet with pocket door completed the room. The Hall Bath was also gutted and re-worked to eliminate a tub and create a spacious shower. The two secondary bedrooms were re-worked slightly, including the elimination of a window seat that created a niche for a large desk. Lower Level – Original plans did not call for this area to be touched, as work had been done in the basement a few years before. However, as other work was underway, the homeowner decided they wanted the laundry room to rise to the quality level of the rest of the home’s renovations. This resulted in a beautiful and functional new mudroom with built-in cubbies and storage, laundry sink and stacked washer/dryer. Whole House – Mitchell & Best installed brand-new hardwood flooring, including a custom herringbone pattern in the foyer. New stair treads, handrails, carpet runner, light fixtures, interior two-panel doors, and interior hardware gave the entire house the look and feel of a brand-new home! A complete remodel of this entire home provided the flow and functionality our clients hoped for, within a space that befittingly showcased their favourite artwork and unique elements of personal self-expression. An artistic spirit is apparent throughout the home as complementary tones of blues, greys, and whites reflect and enhance the ethereal worlds depicted in their cherished art collection. Art is just one of the passions of this family, who also required a kitchen suited to their love of cooking. Vast counter space with high-end finishes and substantial storage in the form of elegant cabinetry frame the centrepiece – a beautifully anachronistic oven imported from France. With its pastel cerulean colour, the range draws the eye and evokes the homeowners’ artistic sensibilities. Similar pops of blue infuse the rest of the home with this cool worldliness, from the refinished bathroom with its walk-in closet, to the décor surrounding the stonework fireplace. Customers already had a beautiful and thoughtful interior. Asked me to help bring some zest to the room space. The interior already had a vertical painting with a pen, in the color spectrum of which there were colors beloved by the hostess: the delicate bloom of tiffany, but a little muted, light yellow, antique black. I pushed away from this color combination. The color in the interior should be exactly the color that pleases the house residents. Since the room was on the north side, I wanted to bring some sun to the interior, revive it a little with flowers. The room's main accent was a wooden wall composition created by the masters of the company "Jamike Home Improvement," according to my drawings from polished wooden strips covered with matte varnish. They have done the job excellently! A unique graphic created precisely under this space, which brought the room to an entirely new aesthetic level. I am happy with the work of the contractors. Everything here has its character, its place. Each is self-sufficient and functional: a gorgeous coffee table made of the wooden massif, which opens and serves as additional storage. Accent Mid-century chairs are very comfortable. A natural wool handcrafted area rug is soft and cozy. The beauty of this carpet consists precisely in non-standard, lack of precise geometry.
