A neighbouring Black Walnut Tree reduced the overall functional usability of this backyard, and the idea for an outdoor living room was developed. The pocket doors can be screens or can be switched to glass windows when the weather turns colder, offering extended use of the outdoor room during the shoulder seasons.

The interior walls of the shower area are cultured marble. This reduces grout line for cleaning and longevity in an old home that still moves quite a bit with the seasons. Tile was used above the shower line to tie in with the appearance of the flooring. This tile is visible through the open area above the shower door. A standard 32" wide tub was used, with a half wall behind it to create a full width shower shelf while providing more shoulder room when showering.

James Hardie products completely transformed this 1974 built Marietta, GA home. Seen from these before and after photos, the home's siding was replaced on the entire home, new shutters and gutters were installed, the front door was replaced, new railing was installed on the front stoop, new roofing shingles were installed on the chimney shoulders, and the home was freshly exterior painted. This mural is located in a private residence theatre room in Merrit BC. The clients requested to have an image created which reflected their personal taste in the old west and the history of their property which is an historic train station site. I worked with them to create personalized details like the building signage which reflects existing local businesses, portraits of themselves as characters in the scene (foreground man and woman) their dogs, (who never leave their sides) and even the brand on the horse's shoulder. Made specifically for Fowler, custom-sized benches were constructed contiguous to the fire pit and customized stone weirs were placed above the spool to allow the flowing water to fall directly upon her shoulders when she relaxes and unwinds. Whether gazing down between the stone columns above the spool by the fire trough or taking in the view from the spool itself, there is not a bad seat in the place. The home, inside and out, incorporates the clean lines and neutral tones that we’ve come to expect from modern design. However, the designers were able to sprinkle in a few traditional elements such as muted still-life paintings, representational sculpture, and a reclaimed wood table that could hold the dinner conversation all on its own. The Villa Aan De Vect transitions between traditional and modern style with an elegant ease — both time periods resting comfortably on the strong shoulders of great design.

In fact, it’s the wife’s style that initially inspired the design for the home on the 20th floor of a Brickell Key high-rise. “As soon as I saw her with a green leather jacket draped across her shoulders, I knew we would be doing something chic that was nothing like the typical all- white modern Miami aesthetic,” says designer Maite Granda of Robyn’s ensemble the first time they met.
