Wide-plank flooring throughout adds continuity and warmth, grounding the expansive layout.
In the kitchen, classic craftsmanship meets modern performance. Custom cabinetry in a soft neutral palette is paired with a statement island, quartz countertops, and a professional-grade range with a sculptural hood. Layered lighting—from recessed fixtures to statement pendants—adds depth and functionality, while thoughtful details elevate the space for both daily use and hosting.
Adjacent to the kitchen, the dining area is designed to feel intimate yet open, featuring a bold modern chandelier and a seamless connection to the surrounding living spaces. The result is a setting that feels equally suited for casual family meals or larger gatherings.
A custom bar and beverage station adds a boutique-hotel feel, with natural wood cabinetry, open shelving, and integrated refrigeration—perfect for entertaining or everyday convenience.
The project is completed with a custom home office, where built-in cabinetry and open shelving provide both function and visual interest. Soft color tones and natural materials create a workspace that feels calm, organized, and intentional.
From layout planning to material selection, every detail was designed to support how the homeowners live—resulting in a home that feels cohesive, timeless, and deeply personal.

After: The kitchen has been completely reimagined into a functional and stylish space. The new deep, double undermount sink not only enhances practicality but also adds a sleek, modern touch to the design. A flush toe-kick seamlessly integrates the cabinetry with the flooring, creating a streamlined aesthetic while maximizing every inch of usable space. The countertops are a showstopper—crafted from 3CM quartz, they extend across both the kitchen and bar areas, providing a refined and durable surface that’s as beautiful as it is practical. By eliminating the low soffits, the ceiling height is visually extended, making the entire kitchen feel lighter and more spacious. These updates, paired with careful attention to both form and function, have transformed the kitchen into a space that feels luxurious yet inviting, with plenty of room to breathe, move, and create.

Contemporary meets function in this Oakton, VA remodel. When it comes to home transformations, Foster Remodeling Solutions knows how to bring visions to life. Recently, a family came to us with a desire for a spacious, open kitchen perfect for entertaining, loaded with extra storage, a sleek bar area, and even custom cabinets for their beloved dogs. We took their vision and turned it into a stunning reality, creating a home that balances beauty and practicality.
Kitchen Transformation: An Open, Inviting Space
The kitchen renovation began with a bold change: we removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a seamless, open-concept layout. This reimagined space centers around a large, welcoming island that now serves as a gathering place for friends and family. The added bar area brings a touch of sophistication, ideal for hosting, while custom cabinets were carefully designed for easy access to pet essentials—making the kitchen functional for everyone in the family.
With contemporary cabinetry and streamlined storage solutions, this kitchen offers both convenience and style. Every detail, from the lighting to the countertop finish, was chosen to complement the family’s lifestyle, making it not only a cooking space but also an entertainment hub.

This kitchen is a great example of creativity. By removing the soffit, adding cabinets by the window, and wrapping cabinetry around a corner, this space becomes inviting and cohesive. When the homeowners were asked what they wanted in their new kitchen, they had this to say . . . “keeping the breakfast bench area where everyone gathers, increasing the counter space (which was accomplished by moving the pantry), and figuring some storage and a small counter area by the window that doesn’t block the window itself (accomplished with the angled top). With all the streamlined design elements, the colors brought in by the homeowner really make the space unique and fun.

Set in a quiet neighborhood and framed by mature trees, this residence presented a unique opportunity: to thoughtfully evolve a custom mid-century modern home into a space that supports the everyday rhythms of a growing family. With a deep respect for the home’s original architecture, Klopf Architecture reimagined the house to better meet the needs of its owners—introducing functional improvements while preserving the spirit and character of its mid-century roots.
The clients approached Klopf Architecture with a clear vision: refresh their home while seamlessly integrating new programmatic elements. Key goals included clarifying and enhancing the entry sequence; connecting the detached garage to the main house with a practical yet architecturally intentional intervention; adding functional spaces such as a mudroom and laundry room; expanding and remodeling the primary suite’s bathroom and closet; and creating a more engaging outdoor space that capitalized on the site’s impressive views, featuring a fire pit and outdoor kitchen.
As a couple with distinct yet complementary perspectives—one focused on modern functionality and technology, and the other dedicated to preserving the home’s architectural integrity—their collaboration with Klopf Architecture resulted in a solution that harmonized both ideals. Their shared commitment to improving the livability of their home led to a design dialogue rooted in balance. This dynamic partnership shaped the direction of the renovation, ensuring that every decision honored the spirit of the original home while aligning with the practical needs of their growing family.
Designing within the constraints of the sloped site posed one of the project’s central challenges. The detached garage sat at a higher elevation than the main house, requiring a solution that ensured architectural and geometric compatibility between the two structures. Rather than create a purely utilitarian link, Klopf Architecture introduced an intentional connection that contributes to the overall architectural language. A notable pinch point in the plan—where differing geometries converged—was treated as a hinge point, turning a potentially awkward juncture into an architectural feature. This area now functions as both a transition and a moment of design interest that unifies the overall plan.
The design also addressed the underutilized outdoor area, which was located in a shadowed portion of the site with geometrical limitations. A new connection to the rear deck was created in this same area, making the outdoor space more useful and inviting. Klopf Architecture introduced carefully positioned openings and spatial improvements that forged a strong visual and functional connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor area now reads as a deliberate extension of the home, embracing natural light and emphasizing the dramatic views.
Working through multiple design iterations, Klopf Architecture crafted a solution that preserved the architectural language of the original home while supporting the functional needs of modern life. The garage-to-house connection became more than a passage—it evolved into an architectural moment of transition. A new mudroom and laundry space enhanced convenience without compromising the clean lines of the design. The primary suite was expanded to create a private, serene retreat. The reimagined backyard, complete with fire pit and kitchen, now plays a vital role in the family’s daily routine and social life.
Outcomes and Lasting Impact
The result is a home that balances heritage with contemporary design, technical precision with design sensibility. The redesign not only met the clients’ initial goals but also exceeded expectations in its ability to seamlessly blend past and present, function and beauty, making the outdoor kitchen a favorite gathering place.
Beyond aesthetics, the renovation has significantly improved daily life for the family. The newly integrated garage connection has streamlined routines, providing a seamless transition between arriving home, storing belongings, and entering the main living spaces. The expanded primary suite offers a retreat-like atmosphere, creating a private space to unwind at the end of the day. The redesigned outdoor areas have also become an extension of their lifestyle—whether it's casual family dinners around the fire pit, entertaining friends in the outdoor kitchen, or simply enjoying the view from the reimagined backyard.
Through a thoughtful and strategic approach, the house has been successfully evolved into a home that remains true to its mid-century modern roots while enhancing livability, functionality, and the overall quality of life for the modern-day owners.

Step into a world of sophistication in the corridor of this beautifully remodeled 60-year-old apartment flat. Admire the built-in cabinetry, offering ample storage and a sleek, streamlined look. The corridor is further enhanced with asymmetrical hidden ceiling lights, adding a touch of sophistication and creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Setup
This hall bath renovation was for empty nesters whose grandkids frequently visit, making it a priority to update the space for both adult guests and young children. Originally, the bathroom was outdated with a large sheet mirror, heavy oak cabinets, and hexagon tile flooring, giving it a dark, underwhelming look. The goal was to create a fresh, inviting environment that balances elegance with practical features for a multi-generational household.
Design objectives:
Modernize finishes and materials to update the aesthetic
Provide accessible, kid-friendly storage and shower options
Artful lighting and maintain a timeless, neutral palette
The Remodel
Design challenges to be solved:
No structural changes – must keep the tub and wall structure
Ensure flexibility with storage for both adult and children’s items
Retain functionality for easier bath time with young children
The Renewed Space
Design solutions:
Updated Storage – Replaced the dated medicine cabinet with a sleek, mirrored version on the wall, offering accessible storage without sacrificing the streamlined look. The vanity now includes additional storage for essential items, keeping surfaces clutter-free and organized.
Neutral Palette with Subtle Details – To give the bathroom a timeless look, we used a soft, monochromatic color scheme throughout. The shower tile, with a subtle sheen and texture, adds depth and interest without overwhelming the space. The floor tile’s pattern brings a sense of movement that’s refined yet durable for a high-traffic bathroom.
Flexible Shower Setup – Opted to keep the shower curtain instead of glass doors, allowing easier access for bathing young children. A spacious shower niche was installed to hold essentials, adding functionality for both the homeowner and the grandkids.
The result is a timeless hall bath with just the right blend of modern sophistication and family-friendly functionality. The subtle yet striking tile details and upgraded lighting bring elegance to the room, making it the perfect refresh for any guest and a versatile space for all ages.

This North York home renovation was designed to perfectly suit a vibrant professional couple, their two active teenagers, and their pets, combining beauty and functionality to match their busy lifestyle. The home needed a functional overhaul, particularly in the kitchen, powder room, master ensuite, and underutilized basement. The clients, eager for an upgrade but short on time, entrusted the project to a team that prioritized communication, thoughtful design, and a seamless process.
The kitchen was completely reimagined with custom cabinetry, maximizing storage and accessibility. A redesigned island now allows access from all sides, improving flow for cooking and family gatherings. New countertops, contemporary flooring, and a balanced mix of crisp tiles and warm wall tones created a cohesive, inviting atmosphere. The master ensuite was transformed into a luxurious retreat with elegant stone-style tiles, an expanded glass-enclosed shower, and a striking tiled feature wall framing the bathtub, delivering both beauty and improved functionality.
To refresh the powder room and entryway on a budget, professional grout cleaning gave existing tiles a new life. Modern lighting and bright wallpaper added charm and energy, welcoming guests into the home. The basement, tailored for the teens and pets, became a cozy entertainment space, separated by subtle partitions for added privacy and comfort.
One notable challenge involved seamlessly transitioning between wood-look porcelain tiles in the kitchen and the existing hardwood floors—a task achieved through careful planning and execution, ensuring a flawless blend. A highlight of the project came when the client saw the near-final result and expressed amazement at the transformation, calling it a “WOW factor.”
The result is a home that perfectly balances style and practicality. The streamlined kitchen, spa-like ensuite, refreshed powder room, and tailored basement now enhance daily life and encourage quality time as a family. This project stands as a testament to thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship, creating a space that reflects the family’s energy and personality while supporting their needs for years to come.

Large-format marble-look wall tile brings a refined and luxurious feel to the walk-in shower, while dark porcelain flooring grounds the space with depth and durability. Warm wood accents introduce natural texture and soften the minimalist palette, creating a space that feels both modern and inviting. Tall ceilings, expansive natural light, and streamlined detailing enhance the airy atmosphere, resulting in a bathroom designed to feel timeless, functional, and effortlessly elegant.

The redesigned living room feels polished, inviting and beautifully connected to the home’s architecture. A soft neutral palette allows the vaulted ceiling, fireplace and distinctive arched window to take center stage, while warm camel accents add depth and contrast. Curved swivel chairs introduce a modern silhouette, and the streamlined sofa, oversized area rug and substantial coffee table give the room a stronger sense of scale. Layered textiles, sculptural accessories and symmetrical lighting complete the space, resulting in a sophisticated living room that feels fresh, comfortable and thoughtfully collected.

Sleek materials and a streamlined design transformed this charming mid midcentury Dallas home. Owners wanted a modern twist to the classic american style, resulting in gorgeous open spaces, accessibility and an inviting warmth.

These clients are empty nesters with grown children and several grandchildren living nearby. They love hosting family gatherings for special occasions and wanted a large space with durable materials and neutral, yet interesting finishes. The large island and perimeter countertop allow space for buffet-style get-togethers, while also feeling perfectly scaled to have breakfast for two from the counter stools. They wanted everything to be of lasting quality, but not feel too precious, so their grandchildren can still have fun running on the porcelain floors and baking on the quartz counters.
The clients desired a cohesive space with the best materials, exhibiting a streamlined appeal that still felt welcoming and catered to all their storage needs. The surfaces are low maintenance for easy clean-up and sanitation. The clients wanted custom, solid-wood cabinetry with natural finishes, for an organic element and visual warmth.
The design intent for this space was to create an open, serene Kitchen utilizing a functional layout, quality materials, and organic elements. The area is grounded by dark terrazzo-looking porcelain and uplifted by contrasting light fixtures. We wanted this room to be inviting through a variety of textures and layered lighting, as it is situated at the heart of the home. With custom cabinetry, the highest caliber appliances and thoughtful hardware, this Kitchen is sure to stand the test of time.
Additionally, clients wanted to hide certain items in the kitchen, such as electronics, appliances, cookbooks, trash, and recycling. Storage for sheet trays, knifes, spices, cutlery and cooking utensils were required. Open display shelves for collectables from travels and an area for a coffee & smoothie bar were also desired.
The island incorporates a hidden charging station for electronics, open shelving for cookbooks, while housing an instant hot and chilled water dispenser at the sink. The cabinetry also has a hidden trash and recycling center, specialty spice and cooking utensil pull-outs, drawers with custom inserts for knifes, cutting boards, cutlery, and tableware. An appliance garage allows room for the stand mixer and toaster to be out of sight, but within reach. A lighted coffee and smoothie bar were planned for the clients’ love of coffee and healthy nutrition. The island and floating shelves are made of oak panels with inlaid brass, adding a subtle touch of sparkle and warmth that highlights gold flecks in the island countertop.

This open-plan lower-level living area combines versatility with understated modern design. The wide, unobstructed floor space allows for flexible use—whether as a family entertainment area, guest suite, or multi-purpose gathering zone. The cool-toned wall color contrasts subtly with the warmth of the flooring, creating a balanced and inviting palette.
At one end, a streamlined kitchenette offers the essentials without overwhelming the room's openness. This integration makes the space perfect for long-term guests or independent living, without compromising the home's cohesive design language.
Ample recessed lighting ensures the room is bright and functional throughout the day, while the placement of windows maximizes available natural light. The result is a space that feels connected to the rest of the home but retains a sense of privacy.
With its clean lines, durable finishes, and adaptable layout, this lower level exemplifies how thoughtful design can turn even secondary spaces into beautiful, functional parts of daily life.

What was once an awkward and inefficient primary bathroom is now a space designed to truly function. The original doorway cut directly into the vanity, and a built in tub consumed valuable square footage, limiting both storage and circulation.
By relocating the entry and reworking the layout, we were able to create a more natural flow. An upgraded shower and a large double oak vanity with thoughtful storage solutions now anchor the space, making daily routines seamless. Heated terrazzo floors add comfort underfoot, while streamlined plumbing fixtures bring a clean, intentional finish to the design.
In the guest bathroom, we moved beyond purely functional and introduced color, pattern, and layered texture to create a space that feels personal and inviting.
Hearing our client share that this remodel has genuinely improved her quality of life is exactly why we do what we do. The result is a cohesive primary and guest bathroom renovation that balances beauty, comfort, and everyday function.
