This home's owners are reverse snowbirds who love birding. They bought this home for the wooded lot but unfortunately couldn't see much from the inside. The home was dated throughout so there wasn’t a surface in this house left untouched. Besides all walls, ceilings, and floors being addressed, projects included three bath remodels and stairway railing replacement. But, the story became the kitchen where we combined it with the formal dining room and changed the orientation to add large windows towards the trees. Now the house feels like a tree house.

The Chambord Residence was a typical worker’s duplex house in the heart of the patrimonial neighbourhood of the Plateau Mont-Royal. The initial intent of this residential renovation project was to annex a master bedroom that would have a view over the iconic Mount Royal, and at the same time, a rooftop terrace. The new addition’s architecture had to contrast with the existing building which stayed untouched. It consisted of a simple volume laid gently over the duplex. We recessed the facade of the new construction to keep the initial alignment of the street. The client’s love for natural materials and bright colors made it easy for us to choose copper as the siding finish for the extension. The idea of seeing his house change color and evolve through time and natural oxidation made it clear for him that it was the most interesting material. We chose a diamond shaped tile to cover the new add-on construction, as it refers to the vernacular false-mansard found in the city, and adds a texture that will make the copper age unevenly. Nothing a 23’ beam couldn’t solve and like a magic trick; no walls. The original kitchen window was left untouched and now it seems like it was meant to have the new kitchen around it. A back entry door into the kitchen was removed and the dining room’s window was turned into a sliding door to the patio. The newly expanded kitchen was designed in Fabuwood cabinetry in the Galaxy Nickle door style. The new large butcher block island top becomes center stage. The houses original hardwood floors were repaired, refinished and added to. A simple subway tile backsplash with focal above the cooktop pops with the contrasting grout. New LED recessed lighting throughout and LED under cabinet task lighting will make sure this new space is never dark and dreary. Now the clients have a fantastic new place to live and entertain.

This elegant French Country Masterbath project was designed and created for a client from 6 years ago. 6 years ago, Karen & Dan used us solely for window treatments. This time is was to refresh and redo 4 bathrooms in their home on as reasonably priced a budget as possible. Why? They know they are likely moving in 3-5 years, but want to sell at a great price. Every bathroom was redesigned with careful focus on style and budget. The Masterbath was a completely gut, but reasonably priced cabinets, tub and tile were used throughout. All other bathrooms just had certain aspects changed with the most costly reno areas staying untouched. In this home office, traditional Tudor backgrounds of oak paneled walls and plaster crown details mix with contemporary, clean-lined furniture to create a chic space perfect for both work and relaxation. Completed in ______ of ______ as part of a larger renovation, the backgrounds of this room were left relatively untouched. The paneled walls were toned down with the addition of several layers of dark stain and the plaster crown and ceiling were given a fresh coat of paint. In furnishing the space, pieces were selected for their restrained style and lack of embellishment. The clean lines and dark finish of the writing desk and credenza compliment the paneling; echoing the angular forms found throughout the room. Above the credenza, a large mirror with antique glass faintly mimics the grid formation of the walls and furniture. In the bay window, a custom settee in camel colored wool offers ample seating without overpowering the space. Window treatments of the same material offer balance though textural contrast. For lighting, streamline fixtures in satin nickel with leather accents were selected for their contemporary appeal. Edited and uncluttered, the room was left intentionally spare to create an atmosphere of tranquility. Among the few accessories, a grouping of vintage white pottery was selected for their sculptural beauty.

When full-time Massachusetts residents contemplate building a second home in Telluride, Colorado the question immediately arises; does it make most sense to hire a regionally based Rocky Mountain architect or a sea level architect conveniently located for all of the rigorous collaboration required for successful bespoke home design. Determined to prove the latter true, Siemasko + Verbridge accompanied the potential client as they scoured the undulating Telluride landscape in search of the perfect house site. The selected site’s harmonious balance of untouched meadow rising up to meet the edge of an aspen grove and the opposing 180 degree view of Wilson’s Range spoke to everyone. A plateau just beyond a fork in the meadow provided a natural flatland, requiring little excavation and yet the right amount of upland slope to capture the views. The intrinsic character of the site was only enriched by an elk trail and snake-rail fence. Establishing the expanse of Wilson’s range would be best served by rejecting the notion of selected views, the central sweeping curve of the roof inverts a small saddle in the range with which it is perfectly aligned. The soaring wave of custom windows and the open floor plan make the relatively modest house feel sizable despite its footprint of just under 2,000 square feet. Officially a two bedroom home, the bunk room and loft allow the home to comfortably sleep ten, encouraging large gatherings of family and friends. The home is completely off the grid in response to the unique and fragile qualities of the landscape. Great care was taken to respect the regions vernacular through the use of mostly native materials and a palette derived from the terrain found at 9,820 feet above sea level.
