Originally built in 1970, this later-model Eichler—designed by architect Claude Oakland—features a distinctive “Model 14” roofline with a clipped gable, a subtle nod to the charm of English thatch-roof cottages. Acquired from the original owner, the home remained in untouched, original condition—offering a rare opportunity for restoration, but also presenting an urgent need for updates. Our approach was grounded in respect for Oakland’s original design intent, while thoughtfully incorporating essential upgrades to meet modern building codes and today’s lifestyle expectations. Eichler homes were originally built using modest, cost-effective materials to make modern architecture accessible to the growing mid-century middle class. While iconic, elements like laminate countertops, particle board cabinetry, and vinyl composition tile flooring haven’t stood the test of time. We carefully replaced these with more durable, high-quality alternatives—granite countertops, maple-ply cabinets, and luxury vinyl tile—ensuring the home remains true to its spirit while standing strong for decades to come. Full exterior repaint on a coastal tabby home, including the poolside cabana. Scope covered pressure washing with a chlorine solution to clear mildew from siding, porches, patios and walkways; scraping, sanding and caulking of all soffits, fascia, band boards and louvered vents; spot priming of raw wood and rusted fasteners; 100% acrylic satin latex on trim, doors and window casings; low-luster acrylic on the cedar shake siding; DTM primer and satin latex on the overhead garage door; and full prep and finish on both new and existing plantation and standard shutters, coated all sides, top and bottom. The stained entry and front glass doors were sanded, re-stained to match their original color, and protected with two coats of marine-grade gloss urethane. The natural tabby stucco was left untouched and protected throughout. Fall is the best painting window on the coast — lower humidity, steadier temperatures, and finished work before the holidays. Cabinets: Brand- Omega Cabinetry Style - Transitional Door style/ Finish - White painted shaker door. The penisula features a bi-level counter top going from counter height to bar height with an undermount sink located within so the homeowner can entertain while working in the kitchen. The counter tops are honed black absolute. The flooring is a porcelain wood grain in a distressed beachwood grey finish. Backsplash is a porcelain slate 6x6 tile turned on a diagonal.

The gray toned color scheme created an atmosphere of sophistication, highlighted by touches of lavender and deep purples for rich notes. We surrounded the room in exquisite custom millwork on each wall, adding texture and elegance. Above the bed we created millwork that would exactly feature the curves of the headboard. Topped with custom bedding and pillows the bed perfectly reflects both the warm and cool tones of the room. As the eye moves to the corner, it holds alluring lush seating for our clients to lounge in after a long day, beset by two impeccable gold and beaded chandeliers. From this bedroom our client may slide their detailed pocket doors, decorated with Victorian style windowpanes, and be transported into their own dream closet. We left no detail untouched, creating space in lighted cabinets for his & her wardrobes, including custom fitted spaces for all shoes and accessories. Embellished with our own design accessories such as grand glass perfume bottles and jewelry displays, we left these clients wanting for nothing. Simplicity and understated luxury The property is a Grade II listed building in the Queen’s Gate Conservation area. It has been carefully refurbished to make the most out of its existing period features, with all structural elements and mechanical works untouched and preserved. The client asked for modest, understated modern luxury, and wanted to keep some of the family antique furniture. The flat has been transformed with the use of neutral, clean and simple elements that blend subtly with the architecture of the shell. Classic furniture and modern details complement and enhance one another. The focus in this project is on craftsmanship, handiwork and the use of traditional, natural, timeless materials. A mix of solid oak, stucco plaster, marble and bronze emphasize the building’s heritage. The raw stucco walls provide a simple, earthy warmth, referencing artisanal plasterwork. With its muted tones and rough-hewn simplicity, stucco is the perfect backdrop for the timeless furniture and interiors. Feature wall lights have been carefully placed to bring out the surface of the stucco, creating a dramatic feel throughout the living room and corridor. The bathroom and shower room employ subtle, minimal details, with elegant grey marble tiles and pale oak joinery creating warm, calming tones and a relaxed atmosphere.
