Loft Master Bedroom with elegant curved walk-in closet and custom-designed viewing platform. For the viewing platform the hickory flooring was carried up and used for the stair treads and platform floor, a metal and cable stairway and rail system was fabricated to mimic the floating stairway coming from the lower level, and sliding doors underneath create ample storage for this open concept bedroom. Because open designs often provide a storage challenge- for additional storage, we converted two RTA pantries into another closet which also serves to dilineate the sleeping area from the rest of the room. An upholstered 4-drawer platform bed and 2 drawer stacks converted to night stands add even more storage. The bulk head running on the long wall was covered with hickory flooring making it functionally multi-usage and a viewing porthole was created allowing a viewer to glimpse the riverfront outside from the 2nd floor. Finally, the detail of a hand-crafted curving shelf large enough to place plants or sculptures upon was added to the top of the stairway facing the curved walk-in closet. When envisioning the Hygeia Lot 3 single family residential home in Encinitas, California, Lindsay and Rory Brown of The Brown Studio sought to weave unique architectural details throughout the minimalist design scheme. To add depth to the overall look and feel of the space, and to complement the home’s existing ‘hard’ angles, the team selected Banker Wire’s IPZ-25 woven wire mesh. Specified in a stainless steel and brass finish, the wire mesh was utilized to create the interior stairway railing, which functions as the focal point of the lower lounge room area.
Adding an elegant touchpoint to the space, the wire mesh reiterates the angular look and feel while providing much-needed depth through the stainless steel and brass finish. Similarly, for the project-at-large, the design team favored a seamless indoor/outdoor design scheme, with the Banker Wire mesh application helping to achieve this; the exterior of the home features Gabion rock walls, created using an enclosing wire structure to secure the rocks into a wall formation. By adding the wire mesh interior stairway railing, the design team was able to create an indoor/outdoor connection through highlighting these unique wire touchpoints.
“The Hygeia Lot 3 house is full of unique angles and architectural details—it’s two levels of playful design and carefully crafted architectural details,” says Loryn Cook, Designer, The Brown Studio. “We wanted to use materials that reflect this line of thinking, and Banker Wire’s architectural mesh provided the stability and breathability we were after.”
The simple, lightweight material of the IPZ-25 wire mesh pattern—which has a 54% open area—utilizes a mixture of stainless steel to achieve balanced sturdiness; when mixed with the copper-based alloy of brass, a beautiful contrast occurs, while the team’s custom system holds the wire in place. Through utilizing different wire diameters for the warp and shute—achieving balanced stiffness in both directions—the intercrimp surface gives the material a high degree of reflective energy. As a result, the mesh pattern imitates an array of colors that changes as the viewer moves throughout the space.
“For this project, we wanted a material that was permeable enough to see through, but detailed enough to catch the eye,” adds Cook. “IPZ-25 provides a myriad of different textures and colors, depending on the perspective from which it is viewed from—we love it specifically for this effect.”
In regards to the fabrication process, Robert Richter, Owner of Flur Metals, notes that although it was initially a challenge, this project is proof that the outcome is well worth it.
“We typically utilize more rigid mesh types for this kind of application, but because of how unique IPZ-25 is, The Brown Studio came to us asking if we could make it work,” says Richter. “We did not shy away from the challenge; this project was exciting, as we were able to utilize such a delicate, beautiful mesh, but a non-traditional way. Once one side was ‘tac’d in,’ we pulled it tight, and ‘tac’d’ the other side to the frame. Then, the border was welded to another frame that sandwiched the mesh in place,” adds Richter. “This application is proof that it can be done! It’s still one of my favorite projects we have ever worked on.”

The hallway niche surrounding this grand piano becomes an inviting, intimate destination within the home thanks to the addition of five 19th century Oriental art rugs. The juxtaposition of the two 3×5 highly collectible Ferahan rugs (foreground) with a South Persian tribal Khamseh rug (under piano), a piece from the Caucasus Mountains (hall, left) and an early Bakshaish runner (border barely shows in upper right) is perfect for this eclectic atmosphere of art appreciation, as they call the viewer to enjoy each performance in turn. Of course, the voices of the antique Oriental rug weavers also work as a brilliant harmony, their rare hues bringing together the diffuse light of a Tiffany stained glass light box, Tiffany lamps and atmospheric oil paintings.

Serving as a winter retreat for a family of world travelers, a thoughtfully composed program of calm, comforting spaces imbuing casual elegance is presented effortlessly in the landscape. Oriented around a central grand oak and its adjacent loblolly pine, the home wraps around them, celebrating the engagement of nature while maintaining privacy from neighboring homes. Working within height restrictions intended to keep massing as low to the ground as possible, we moved the ground plane up and the expression down to present an appearance of a home that lives low. Calculated plays on scale and proportion intentionally have different effects from different vantage points, ensuring the viewer perceives the architecture as humanly scaled from each important introduction to the home. Ascending a landscape stair that winds around the central oak and extends into the entry vitrine sitting at base flood, the entry foyer operates at two scales as limestone stairs matching the exterior ascend between walls passing portals that reveal limited views of activity within.

The gentle curve of this staircase sets the tone, preparing the viewer for artistry. Red oak treads follow the gentle arc of the staircase, their radius nosing softening what could have been a hard geometric statement into something more inviting. Vertical black metal balusters rise in clean rhythm alongside, grounding the warmth of the oak with a contemporary edge. What ties it all together is the continuous handrail, a custom profile that flows uninterrupted through the stairwell, transitioning seamlessly into the newel without missing a beat. The result is a staircase that feels sculpted rather than assembled.

Building a Dream: the Creation of a Wine Cellar
A dream house is more than walls and a roof, it is a place full of things that you love. When David Rabin got the chance to build the house of his dreams, it wasn’t enough to simply use stone instead of brick or wood instead of tile. He had to fill it with people and things he loved. So, as a passionate collector of wine, he set out to build a custom wine cellar.
He had never built a wine cellar before and had his reservations. He wondered what it would take to make it beautiful, a place where he could store cases of wine as well as proudly show off special, trophy bottles.
“One of my biggest worries, though, was space,” said David. “We knew we wanted a wine cellar, and that we wanted it to be gorgeous, but we had no idea where it would be or if we even had the space for one.”
Glenview Haus had already given David his custom, wooden entry door and was ready to create a high-quality wine cellar that was customized to fit his vision. David recalls with awe how helpful the team at Glenview Haus was when approaching the project he assigned them.
“What the team at Glenview Haus did was designate space, and then worked to maximize the space for ultimate storage and efficiency,” said David. “We were nervous that the smaller space would eliminate our ability to make it beautiful. But the team at Glenview Haus was able to work with our interior designer to make it absolutely stunning.”
Wine Cellar Cooling System
By installing a state-of-the-art cooling system that automatically keeps the cellar at the ideal temperature and humidity level, Glenview Haus was able to create the ideal wine cellar environment. The team helped David choose from a variety of furniture-grade wood species, that they could handcraft so as to add all the detail that would help make David’s wine cellar uniquely designed. Glenview Haus’ team also collaborated with the interior designer to create the perfect atmosphere for David’s custom wine cellar.
Wine Cellar Craftsmanship
Glenview Haus designed a see-through glass entry system, to protect and show off the extensive collection of wine. Inside they helped create a masterpiece, from floor to ceiling. The team brought in brick veneers for the walls to complement the stained Mahogany horizontal display, and that gave the entire cellar a rustic feel. A textured, painted ceiling completed the look, contributing to the incredible, other-worldly feel. David’s artisan, custom wine cellar did exactly what he dreamed it would do and transported all visitors to a vineyard on the Italian countryside.
“The team constructed us a space to hang a landscape painting of a vineyard,” said David. “This painting, along with all of the other amazing design elements give viewers looking into the cellar the feeling that they are outside looking into something that you’d imagine would only exist in Italy.”
Glenview Haus helped David create a wine cellar that not only had ample storage but that was customized and designed to meet his ultimate vision.

Laundry rooms and mudrooms can be a headache for many homeowners. They are usually cramped with poor functionality and little storage space. Joe and Kristin suffered all those aches and more, as their laundry room lacked clothing storage. Shoes were crammed in every corner. There was nowhere to fold clothes without taking them to the kitchen. They were ready for a complete laundry room remodel project.
Joe and Kristin interviewed several local remodeling companies but didn’t connect with anyone who could understand their vision. During the summer, when they were attending their son’s race venue, they noticed fellow kart racers Todd and Christine Jurs’ sponsor banner for their remodeling company, Advance Design Studio. Immediately they were thrilled that they knew someone they trusted who could handle the renovation.
“We wanted someone that we actually knew, who has a little bit more invested than an outside person that we don’t have any ties to,” Kristin said.
Project Designer Nicole Ryan came to their home in Warrenville for the initial consultation. Kristin, an avid HGTV viewer, brought her ideas to Nicole. Throughout the design process, they worked together designing the space, selecting materials, and choosing colors. Nicole made sure to incorporate Kristin’s must-haves into the finished laundry room remodel.
“It was really easy. Nicole made the transition very easy,” Kristin said of Nicole’s work in the design phase of the project. With the materials selected and the drawings finalized, it was time to begin construction. Kristin and Joe were impressed with how quickly and cleanly this phase went.
“Everyone that came in was very respectful, very neat, and that was a big part for me because I didn’t want dust going through the rest of my house,” Kristin said.
The new combination mudroom/laundry room is everything Kristin and Joe hoped. There is plenty of storage, three pull-out laundry hampers for presorting laundry, a large central island for folding clothes, a designated bar to hang dry, and even a unique rotating shoe rack to keep shoes from cluttering the space.
“My rotating shoe rack,” Kristin said when asked what her favorite part of her new laundry room was. “We have four kids. We have a lot of shoes and sporting events. So it makes sense to have all that space for shoes.”
The center island has an exceptional feature as well. It has wheels. Kristin wanted to be able to move the island out of the way for different functions in the room. An island with wheels can be placed wherever needed in the space.
The two existing closets were reconfigured with built-in closet storage systems to make them more functional than before with shelves for baskets holding gloves and hats, umbrellas, and coats.
“They love it,” Project Designer Nicole Ryan said. “They had a vision of how they wanted the space to function but didn’t know exactly how to get it there. My design took all their needs and used the most efficient products to get them the desired outcome. Tons of function, while still looking beautiful!”
The “White” Hudson Panel Dura Supreme cabinetry on the perimeter brightens the space and contrasts the popular blue “Gale Force” Dura Supreme cabinetry of the rolling island. The black and white encaustic design porcelain tile backsplash adds visual interest to the room above the white quartz countertops. Additionally, an oil-rubbed bronze bar for hanging clothes is conveniently located above the washer/dryer, and a stainless-steel under-mount sink with a matching Kohler faucet offers perfect functionality.
“I would definitely recommend Advance Design; they’ve been wonderful. They were so helpful. Any little changes we had, they were able to accommodate,” Kristin said.

This queen-size bed was commissioned by a wonderful family for a house in Northern Vermont. In a beautiful house on a lake in the woods, the master bedroom is large with high ceilings. The bed was designed as the centerpiece of the room. As the focal point, it gives the room more comfortable, cozy feeling. The flow of the curves and lack of straight lines visually guides the viewer around the piece.
The sides of cherry night stands echo the curvature of the bed. The minimal frame for the case is meant to allow the joinery details in the bed to be seen. The simple ash frame and the extended sides that are proud of the top are details inspired by Japanese architecture and furniture.

Measuring generously, this piece is perfect for making a statement in any space, whether it be a contemporary living room, a chic office, or an artistic studio. Ideal for those who appreciate unique, eye-catching art that enhances the ambiance of their surroundings, this painting transforms any wall into a stunning focal point.

Photos and aerial video of lovely Palmetto, Florida home. With 5 bedrooms, this traditional home has an interior design that delights the viewer throughout the living areas, It was a pleasure to photograph!

Christine is inspired by color and the abstract world we live in. Her mediums are canvas and mural paitings with acrylic paint. She has always had an interest in art; yet she has not taken any art classes.
While living at the beach, she began to use the ocean for the beginning of each canvas. In the early stages of her career she experimented extensively on marine life which she was so moved by. From beautiful glittery sand to windy palm trees to fish in the sea, she later moved towards abstract paintings that incorporated anything from animals and designs to psychedelic intricate patterns. Her paintings show her love for color and pull viewers into them.
