Inspiration for a large modern detached three-car garage remodel in Austin

Located within the Irvington Historic District, the project required a separate design review and approval process due to the proposed exterior modifications to the home. A previous remodel left the home as a jumble of spaces with lots of cabinetry, but little thought to the actual function of the spaces. The 57 square foot addition at the rear of the home enabled a remarkable transformation of the kitchen, taking it from a crowded L-shaped kitchen with little workable counter space to a beautiful large kitchen conducive to cooking and entertaining. The new kitchen opens to the backyard through a new 4-panel sliding door, which provides ample daylighting and extends the kitchen to the outdoors. A new bench and storage adjacent to the 4-panel door function like a mud room. New windows over the sink balance the daylight in the space and provide views to the exterior. A large nebulous space between the living room and rear of the home was given order and purpose through the addition of a new hallway, built-ins, and storage space, bringing the home back to a more traditional and functional layout. Stained fir woodwork and cabinetry matches the original woodwork. Reproduction brass hardware and light fixtures throughout the space add to the timelessness of the home.

"TaylorPro remodeled our kitchen, replacing cabinets, countertops and appliances. Keeping with the same footprint of our original kitchen and keeping our original travertine floors, Kerry Taylor helped us select a palette of rich, natural colors and materials--mocha-maple glazed cabinets, handsome granite and polished travertine backsplash tiles--to create a warm and beautiful new kitchen. He offered excellent design suggestions for placements of cabinetry and appliances. He recommended and implemented window trim enhancements as well as paint color and lighting design that brought the kitchen and attached family room together with a modern and very warm look. He created a rich, textured backsplash behind the stovetop that enhances the modern stainless steel vent hood. We couldn't be more pleased with the character and design of the kitchen and family room suite. To begin with, Kerry gave us a detailed estimate covering the likely costs of labor, cabinetry, granite, tile backsplash, construction materials and appliances. His estimate for labor, granite and tile turned out to be ""spot-on"" accurate. Much to our surprise, for example, the granite slabs we selected from Daltile turned out to be exactly the price Kerry had estimated when evaluating the level of materials we would likely install in our kitchen. Kerry kept to his original labor costs, to the penny. Each week, he provided us with an invoice that showed, in percentages, exactly how much labor had been performed that week and how much remained to be done in future weeks. The amounts he charged each week for his labor were exact percentages of the amount of labor his crew had performed to that point. Though these invoices invited us to do a little math to confirm the accuracy of these percentages, Kerry's figures were consistently accurate. The only categories in which Kerry's original estimate did not conform to the actual costs were in the areas of supplies from Home Depot (needed for the remodeling) and supplies from paint and hardware stores (needed for painting). These materials ended up costing somewhat more that Kerry had estimated. However, Kerry did provide us with receipts for all of these supplies. Kerry's cabinet man, Jerry, made a very workable design using pre-fabricated cabinets; he then customized the sizes of at least half of these cabinets to conform to the requirements of the center island, cooktop and pantry spaces. We are very happy with the quality of the cabinets. We found the installation expertise of Jerry's installer, Gil, to be top-rate. His installation achieved a custom look and all the cupboards and drawers worked flawlessly. Kerry's crew, Jake, Randall and Kevin, were great guys to have on site. They respected our property (and our dog) and possessed both skill and integrity. They arrived daily at the time they specified and worked tirelessly to achieve what they set out to do. We couldn't have been happier with their work. Kerry was on site frequently to supervise and coordinate their work and the work of subcontractors. Mid-sized 1960s white one-story exterior home idea in Miami

On the exterior, the desire was to weave the home into the fabric of the community, all while paying special attention to meld the footprint of the house into a workable clean, open, and spacious interior free of clutter and saturated in natural light to meet the owner’s simple but yet tasteful lifestyle. The utilization of natural light all while bringing nature’s canvas into the spaces provides a sense of harmony. Light, shadow and texture bathe each space creating atmosphere, always changing, and blurring the boundaries between the indoor and outdoor space. Color abounds as nature paints the walls. Though they are all white hues of the spectrum, the natural light saturates and glows, all while being reflected off of the beautiful forms and surfaces. Total emersion of the senses engulf the user, greeting them with an ever changing environment. Style gives way to natural beauty and the home is neither of the past or future, rather it lives in the moment. Stable, grounded and unpretentious the home is understated yet powerful. The environment encourages exploration and an awakening of inner being dispelling convention and accepted norms. The home encourages mediation embracing principals associated with silent illumination. If there was one factor above all that guided the design it would be found in a word, truth. Wonderful remodeled home with contemporary kitchen. Wood surround hood, and triangular shaped island makes the most of this wonderful and very workable space. Two tone cabinets provide a wonderful contrast to the space.

This young family wanted a larger kitchen that was more open to their living space. We removed the wall between the kitchen and former breakfast area to open up the rooms and allow for a larger kitchen with island. The original door to the kitchen from the hallway was arched, we copied that design on the new enlarged opening to the family room. By moving the mudroom doorway over allowed for a much better workable space in the mudroom and light now flows through from that area into the kitchen. This also gave us a nice long wall to place the bar on. The family room was quite large which allowed for the new eating area and fabulous built in display wall.

This family needed a family kitchen. With one young son and another on the way they needed a space that would allow views to the rest of the house and space to move around 2 active children. A fresh color scheme and classic choices were implemented to create a fresh space for them. Sarah worked with both husband and wife to create a workable space that had plenty of storage and appealed to their design aesthetic.

We selected Boral for the canopy material for its natural look, proven endurance, and the workability needed to realize the design’s elegant edges. The aluminum trim around the windows the metal was painted with Styx, which bonds to such metals and plastics. The huge walnut-and-glass door, with its unique pivot-style function and its long steel pull, was sent in several pieces, all extremely heavy. We used scaffolding and suction cups to slide the panels into place. The new door allows natural light to flow to the entryway and front of the home.

Solid Apollo LED. In this cozy apartment kitchen, the owner wanted to highlight her artwork while bring extra workable lighting to the counter top area. Under the cabinets, the owner installed LED Strip Light in Daylight White just behind the front lip under the cabinet, to ensure the most light was projected to the artwork and the counter surface. The Daylight White color was chosen as it is similar to the color of actual sunlight, and will not alter the colors being highlighted. In the see-through cabinets along the ceiling, the owner used indoor Moon LED Lights, for the look of a traditional spot lamp, but without the hassle of extensive installation. The Moon LED lights are a recessed low profile design. To control the LED Strip Lights and each of the Moon LED Lights separately, the LEDWizard Wi-Fi Smartphone and Tablet LED Controller was used.

The existing kitchen was dark and dated and no longer met the client’s needs. The space had awkward perimeter cabinets and a small island with no real workable countertop space. The enjoyed the natural light their large kitchen window brought in, but needed additional lighting. “Please give us an updated Southwestern kitchen that we can enjoy cooking and entertaining in for years to come.” The kitchen was fully transformed into a charming rustic space that incorporated the best functionality possible. Cabinets were refinished with new hardware added and the small nonfunctioning island was replaced with a new large island. Large slabs of Golden Crystal granite in a satin finish were fabricated & installed on the countertops. A custom backsplash tied the space together by adding a touch of copper mixed with a tumbled stone. LED lighting added different layers of dimension and helped create ambiance. Saltillo tile had to be replaced throughout the kitchen and match perfectly to the existing Saltillo. Gleaming stainless steel appliances completed the look of the new kitchen.
