I signed a contract on November 4th 2024. The first thing that happened was the salesperson came back with another contract containing an increase in the estimated cost of the project that was more than 30% over the original quote. After 12 months waiting and no progress or communication I called to find out when we might get started. That was in November 2025 and my porch was complete in May of 2026. There were several subcontractors and at least four instances when I was told something would get done by the end of the week. I eventually understood this to mean "sometime next week". The porch is beautiful and I am enjoying it but the process was less than stellar

We are in love with our new home! From the start, it was clear that DJK prioritizes quality—both in the materials they use and the craftsmanship of the finished product. That said, the project did come in a bit more expensive than we initially expected. While that was something we had to adjust to along the way, we ultimately feel that the quality and durability of the home justify the added cost. I have to give a personal shoutout to our project manager, ANDY PERRY. As with any project, we expected to run into some bumps along the way. Andy did an exceptional job helping us navigate and solve any issues that arose. I am always able to get in touch with Andy, and he is mindful to find solutions that work well for both us and DJK. I can’t say enough to his character and professionalism. In the end, we’re very happy with our home and feel confident that it was built to last. We would recommend DJK to anyone who is willing to invest in a quality home.

We recently built our home with DJK, and overall, it was a very positive experience. The quality of the work is strong, and the team was professional and committed throughout the process. That said, I did feel that some of the pricing on upgrades ran a bit higher than expected, and like with any large build, certain trades contacts were stronger than others. The standout of the entire experience was our project manager, Andy. He was truly fantastic—responsive, proactive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure things were done right. Andy made what could have been a stressful process feel much smoother, and he was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. If you are considering building with DJK, I’d recommend them—especially knowing you’ll be in great hands if you’re lucky enough to have Andy as your project manager.

DJK stands by their work. We had an issue with our stoop and settling witht eh walkway which is normal and goign to happen overtime. However, the stoop was also starting to slant towards the house. DJK came and assessed the problem and came up with a solution that fixed the stoop and they also took care of the walkway that was settling. If you are looking to build with a company that keeps relationships with homeowners, look no further. DJK is the way to go!

Our new home built by DJK is beautiful and the quality outstanding. We were very fortunate to have worked with Halina Mark on the design. Halina carefully listened to us and created an interior design that is both beautiful and functional. Halina patiently worked with us every step of the way from architectural plans to close. During the architectural design phase Dan Kittilsen was helpful and had great ideas. Mark Papa managed construction and was outstanding throughout the project. Mark’s attention to detail was remarkable. The subcontractors used by DJK were excellent. Any building project is bound to have problems but both Mark and Halina worked quickly to resolve issues as they arose. DJK’s build process is thorough. While DJK is not a cheap builder, they do strive to build an excellent home.

Shannon was super informative and helpful during our first conversation about possibly starting the home building process. I felt assured that she would make the process as seemless as possible.

We built our first home with DJK Custom Homes and had a wonderful experience start to finish. The BuilderTrend portal was easy to use and was a very organized way to stay up to date with design changes, updates to the build process, and invoice management without having to walk the house on a daily basis. And finally, Jack and Myles went above and beyond to execute on the overall build. Through their proactive communication, organization, and attention led to our dream home being built exactly as designed. It was not a surprise to us that our house was not delayed and was built exactly in line with deadline. We have been in the house about 7 months now (I waited before reviewing until getting a little experience with our new house). The primary reason for choosing DJK was due to their reputation of building high quality energy efficient houses. Over the few months here, I can attest to the build quality, comfort, and energy efficiency. Some of the salient features that seem to make the most difference is the air tightness, insulation materials, efficient appliances, and energy recovery ventilation system. The trades that DJK uses seem to be top notch. The HERS rating of around 50 seems to be accurate. In addition to the build quality, the design of our house is very nice. Overall, this house surpasses our expectations. We did have to replace several lighting fixtures to complement our particular tastes (these were preselected and in place prior to our purchase) which is typical with this type of house purchase. DJK houses are on the high-end cost wise (per square foot) but the build quality is well worth it. This is another example of "you get what you pay for" it seems.

Our DJK Dream home was completed in October of 2024. The process took over a year and the most stressful part of the process was cramming our Frenchie, my husband and I into an apartment during the construction. I think the best compliment I can give the team at DJK is that I was sad when the home was complete because we thoroughly enjoyed working with their team, their processes and watching the progress. In fact, if we could, we would start building another home with them right now! With the above said, we want to share a little of our story. I have lived in the Chicagoland area since August of 2012. One of my first memories upon house shopping around the West Highlands and Downtown Naperville were the giant signs on various construction fencing with large green letters – DJK. That initial curiosity led to my early decision that when the time comes, I wanted to build a DJK home. In 2016 I purchased what I could afford in the West Highlands, a split level built in 1959 that had been flipped in the hastiest way possible. No problem, my goal was to live there until the roof gave out and then maybe I would be blessed with the means to knock it down and build the dream home I imagined. No way – that was probably just a pipe dream, right? Seven years later I found myself to be newlywedded and my husband and I were looking for a larger abode to combine our two households. We did our due diligence to be responsible and look for a house we didn’t need to knock down, but nothing seemed to fit. Elated and nervous, my husband and I walked into the DJK model home in Downtown Naperville not really knowing what to expect. I am sure you can imagine feeling out of your league. Would the salesperson even talk to us, and would we be able to get anything close to our budget? Do not be intimidated when you walk into their model home showrooms. Meeting Shannon at the model home was like running into a long-lost part of the family. Our meetings with other team members felt just the same. They listened, were compassionate and didn’t make us feel like our budget was ridiculously small or that the dream house we wanted to build was unattainable. When sitting down with Cassy, she had solutions, ideas, and the expertise to work with the vendors and trades to deliver what we envisioned. COMMUNICATION is what needs to be emphasized with DJK custom homes, because they have mastered it. If there was something of concern that we noticed, our project manager, Mark, was on the case before we could even bring it up. It was a great pleasure to work with DJK on the build of my new home. From the first meeting in the showroom to closing and beyond the team has been fantastic to work with and the end result has been a wonderful home built with the highest quality. The process is intense but was a great joy to see the journey from the initial floor plan discussion with Dan to design a truly custom home come to fruition. Working with Halina and team for the selections and design pieces was great, the right amount of guidance without any sales pitches being thrown in help me navigate through what can be a daunting process and helped me somewhat control the damage to the bank account. As the project manager, I could not have been happier working with Jack. His attention to detail, availability to address my questions and his ability to keep me up to date without any prompting gave me great comfort in such a big job. Just wrapping up the finishing touches on our home. We changed some things along the way, but everything has come out perfect. Annie was able to help in the selection process. Jack has been there through every step and has been responsive to all our needs. This is our dream home and wouldn’t change anything.

Our home was built by DJK in 2020, we broke ground just as Covid was hitting so we had some challenges that the DJK team pushed through with us. When we asked our project manager questions about potential issues and just general maintenance items during the build, (summarizing) he consistently said, "...look, we're in this together and with you, don't hesitate to call us, even after your home is out of warranty, we're here to help...". Well the DJK team proved they were true to their word in spades last week. Our home has been out of warranty for over a year, and I noticed the sump failed Monday morning around 8 a.m. I reached out to the DJK team, and they tapped into their resources and were able get an experienced plumber at my house within a couple of hours that replaced the sump pump and gave me some other guidance about the home. Fortunately, I caught the issue relatively soon, however, there was water in two areas of the basement, including a small part of the carpet in the finished portion of the basement was damp. The DJK support team came out with four fans to help dry the affected areas, and two of them were commercial floor fans. Then they loaned me a heavy-duty dehumidifier a day later - all of which has gotten the affected areas essentially bone dry. I had considered buying a dehumidifier to help dry the basement, and out of curiosity I Googled the dehumidifier DJK loaned me - it would have cost me almost $2,000. In addition to the DJK team being "Johnny on the Spot" to resolve this issue, what was also extremely valuable was the knowledge the on-site DJK team members shared with me to help mitigate potential future issues with some very cost-effective solutions. And they also gave me specific numbers, guidance, and education regarding mold spores and the type of treated wood and insulation that DJK uses in their homes to help mitigate potential issues like mold. Fortunately, I had a humidity gauge from when the home was built, and based on the data, it indicated our home was clearly not at risk. Great job and THANK YOU to the DJK Team! Sincerely, Dave P.

We have just moved into our DJK home and couldn’t be more pleased with the quality and style of our house. Building a custom home can be daunting but the process was well defined. Dan listened to us to make all the adjustments/additions that we needed to make it perfect. We loved working with Halina Mark (Refined Design) whose design sense is impeccable. She guided us as we made our choices, insuring it was our vision but fit the style of the home. Jack Daniels was a pleasure to work with as our project manager. His communication skills were great, keeping us informed of the progress and milestones of the build. Everyone was very quick to respond to any concerns we may have had. We now have the home of our dreams.

Refined Design and Halina Marks review: We just finished our new custom home build with DJK and had the pleasure of working directly with Halina Marks, Refined Design. Halina made our experience not only wonderful, but more importantly, easy and stress-free, which resulted in the home of our dreams and beyond. Halina worked directly with us to define and design each space in this home. She would find solutions that somehow felt intentional instead of a solution to a problem. She follows through and is extremely responsive to phone calls, texts and emails. She worked 7-days a week and into the evening to help us stay on schedule. Halina worked tirelessly to find us more affordable alternatives without compromising aesthetics and quality. I can’t say enough wonderful things about working with Halina. I wish we were building another home so that we could continue working together!

We started the process of building our DJK home in April of '22 and it was just completed in July of '23. At the start of the project, we were really discouraged by the lack of transparency and missed expectations. That being said, the building process was a breeze with our Project Manager, Jack Daniels, at the helm. We have had nothing but the best experience working with Jack. He's extremely knowledgeable, sets proper expectations, and is true to his word. The finished product came out fantastic and I have full confidence that the few odds and ends that need fixing will be taken care of by the warranty process led by Bryan and Jack. These two turned our experience with DJK around completely and I cannot recommend them more highly.

DJK build our new home within the time line they provided early on.We feel two most important elements in the home build QUALITY AND ON TIME! DJK team meat both even in the challenging environment of labor and materials supply chain issues throughout the year. Dan personally helped us in customizing our house from their standard model. There were few hurdles with the city but DJK/Kevin helped us to work through. Mark Project Manager very experience paid attention to the details throughout the build. We are almost at finish line with few minor things but I am very confident will be done and close. Overall we are very happy and I would recommend DJK for new home, major renovations or any of their services!!

Our house turned out absolutely amazing and we are extremely impressed with the level of quality! Admittedly the start of the process was a little bumpy and could have used more transparency, but once Jack and Cassy came on to the project it went extremely smooth! Our dream home is here. DJK made it happen! It truly feels like a custom home. Not just because it has everything my wife and I picked out, but because DJK involved us in every step of the process. As for the house, the quality is superb. And the quality isn't just from the finishings. It's everything from framing and exterior, to the high efficiency energy (whole house ventilation, insulation, windows, etc.). Building a new home is a huge commitment, and at the beginning, there are a lot of unknowns. Now that it's done? I wouldn't change a thing. A big part of that is because of DJK. They are a family business, and they will treat you like you are a part of it.

DJK built our dream house! Even with us delaying the process due to some family loss, the team at DJK worked with us based on our timeline. The sales team made the process easy and straightforward, even though building a custom home is extremely complicated and time consuming. The team is extremely easy to work with and the best part is the support staff after the house is completed. They are extremely responsive and quick to get issues resolved after you move in....even a year later!

We got off to bit of a shaky start (weather, staffing, COVID, etc)…but once Jack D took over our project management things really started moving. He was great with weekly updates and pictures, very responsive to our texts and emails. Jack was knowledgeable about the building sequence and lined up trades to get the job done. I have worked with DJK Custom Homes for over 17 years. I am a Mortgage Lender that specializes in Construction Loans and have had the pleasure of financing many of their clients with Construction to Perm loans. I have had noting but successful projects with DJK and they are a pleasure to work with. I get rave reviews often from their clients as their home progresses. I've been in many of their model homes as well and words can not express how impressed I am ever time I walk in. The attention to detail is amazing. They have a very friendly staff and you can tell they love what they do! Top notch all the way around!

My wife and I noticed DJK because the houses are modern, creative, and well-designed. Our salesperson was Dan Kittilsen. As both a salesperson and the owner of the company, Dan is a walking contradiction as he struggles to balance the devil on one shoulder (the salesperson saying "Tell them whatever it takes to close the deal!") with the angel on the other shoulder (the owner saying "Do the right thing!"). Dan was extremely friendly and helpful during the sales process. However, you won't see much of Dan after you sign on the dotted line. Instead, you will be handed off to the selections coordinator and one of the project managers. At that point, the Dan that was your buddy during the sales process will be gone forever. Our project manager was Mark Papa. Mark is a seasoned veteran and did a solid job. On the other hand, the selections coordinator was literally the worst thing about the homebuilding process. Vendors and tradesmen are a mixed bag. Some do great work and provide outstanding customer service, while others use their affiliation with DJK as a license to steal. DJK utilizes Buildertrend to manage selections and pricing. Unfortunately, Buildertrend is treated as a one-way contract. When customers sign off on selections, they are written in stone. However, when DJK makes inclusion and/or pricing errors, they mysteriously disappear from Buildertrend without any notification whatsoever. Not cool. The build quality of the house is excellent. However, the relative value is mediocre at best. DJK informs customers that a 15% markup will be added to all upgrades. However, vendors and tradesmen confirmed that the actual percentages are much higher. It would be better if DJK just said "an additional markup" rather than blatantly lying to customers. The ideal DJK customer is a wealthy family that is looking for a high-quality house and does not care that they will be fleeced along the way. At the end of the day, building our house with DJK was a long road fraught with drama, politics, and broken promises. The final product is fantastic but would we do it all again? I’m not so sure.

We have been in our new house for two months and are impressed with the quality of the build. Our experience with DJK was excellent; from the sales representative, the plans, and exterior design to the home building phase and closing, DJK provided a comforting experience. The attention to detail and the superior quality of the materials met all our expectations. The DJK team worked together seamlessly and was there for us every step of the way. Kevin was always available to give suggestions and answer any questions. We recommend DJK for its excellent service and high quality. They are genuinely a pleasure to work with.

We bought an existing home that was in dire need of work. We met with Dan and his team at DJK. They were able to design a plan and execute to turn our home into our brand new home. Dan was able to set realistic expectations for timing and cost of the project. We were kept up to date throughout the project. It was very impressive seeing his team of contractors check and double check measurements. Dan and his team came up with great design ideas throughout the house. Our family is very appreciative of their professionalism and we're very much enjoying our remodel!

After having visited their model homes in Naperville my wife and I had long wanted to build a home with DJK. Unfortunately, finding an acceptable lot in our budget proved too difficult and we ended up purchasing an existing home instead. That home, while quite nice, has some very dated elements and we were excited that in addition to building new homes, DJK also do renovations and remodeling work. The first project on our list was to remodel the mudroom/laundry space off of the garage, and when we were ready we reached out to DJK to design and build the space. Kevin, Annie, and team worked with us to create a space that met our vision with tile, paint, and custom cabinetry. Like all remodeling projects, this one posed a few unique and unexpected challenges, but DJK was able to quickly adapt and adjust the plans as needed. All in all, we are very happy with the space. Over the coming years we have several other parts of our home that we'll be having remodeled and we look forward to working with the DJK team again.

DJK has been outstanding to work with in the initial stages of evaluating, designing, costing and contracting for a new house. We initially searched the area for builders and narrowed the search down to DJK. After receiving several very good reports on DJK we decided to contact them. Our initial information gathering turned into a full plan and eventually a contact for DJK to build a new house for us. This all took place over about a four to six week period. We worked with Shannon from start through contract and could not be more pleased with her response time and accuracy of information. We are currently working toward creation of permit documents. We bought a DJK home in Dillon, CO and couldn't be happier. The details to quality are recognizable and, in my experience, rare for a home builder. The house is solid and stands up to my 2 rambunctious boys. Solid, high-quality finishes and lots of attention to detail. Overall a great home and a great buying experience. Would use DJK again!

DJK is a wonderful builder and we have had a great experience with them. My husband and I built with them almost 3 years ago now and I have been waiting to write this review until we have "lived in" the home to give my most honest assessment of working with them. From the beginning, Dan was great about bringing our ideas to life. We gave him a tall order and wanted everything just perfect. They absolutely delivered on our design ideas and helped us create the perfect home. Their designer, Annie was amazing and was extremely patient with me. I never make quick decisions and that can be hard for a builder to manage, but she always handled me with patience, which I appreciated. Mark is by far the best construction manager I have ever worked with. I would absolutely trust him with any home of ours....he truly cares about his clients and is so relatable. He is such an asset to DJK. And finally, what has impressed me the most about DJK is that they truly stand behind their product. We are past our warranty and I can still contact them at any time with a question about our home and they are always quick to help us in any way they can. Our review is different from the ones that have previously been written. We did not build a home with DJK Custom Homes, we purchased a model home from them. From the time we began the purchasing process, all of the DJK team from Dan Kittilsen, the sales team, and the rest of the crew were easy to work with and responsive throughout. Because we did not build the home, there have been a few minor issues since we have moved in. Since the move in, we have communicated most often with Kevin Kittilsen, VP of DJK Custom Homes, and Josh. Kevin has always been extremely responsive, whether we called or emailed him, even if it was a Saturday! He is available to provide assistance, information, and/or solutions to any issue, and he does so in a timely manner. He takes the time to follow up to ensure the experience has been a good one, and that we are satisfied with the results. What VP of any company does that? Josh is always professional and friendly when he enters our home, and he listens to our concerns and helps out in whatever way he can. We moved to Plainfield from Florida, where we built two other homes, and we can absolutely say that we never had that caliber of response and service from the other builders. We would highly recommend without hesitation DJK Custom Homes to anyone who is considering building a home.

We had an excellent experience with our remodel. The DJK team treated our small basement project like it was just as important as one of their large new build projects. Mark Papa was really great making sure all the trades were lined up and organized even with our very hectic schedule. Annie Gehrke made the selection process a breeze - she was able to find us exactly what we wanted to complete the vision and within our budget! The DJK team was extremely thorough during the every walk through we had - they didn't miss a thing even if it meant getting a trades person back for the smallest of touch-ups. Karen was so friendly and extremely helpful and everyone on the team was consistent in their messaging. Also, I'm an extremely forgetful person and the team took it upon themselves to follow up with me until I accepted the warranty terms! That's a team that genuinely cares about their customers.

This team is definitely all about quality, and the environment. My company installed a large solar system on DJK's new model home in downtown Naperville. The project ran on time, they were very easy to coordinate with for different parts of the project, and the home itself is gorgeous. My entire solar installation team was in awe of their professionalism and attention to detail. Could not be happier with our partnership.

We did extensive research on builders in the area and found DJK to be by far the best builder around. They were professional and upfront about the building process. They streamline the process with modern conveniences like apps on the phone but gave personal attention with phone calls and meetings. Their homes are highly energy efficient and eco friendly. Dan Kittlesen is forever a student of the newest and best ways to build a home. Never satisfied with current methods of building a home. Always in the forefront of the newest methods and technology in home building. Mark Papa was a very informative and attentive project manager. This is the third house we have built and this has been, by far, the most trouble free building experience we have ever had. The attention to detail has been outstanding. Minor things that I had overlooked were pointed out to me by the builder and were fixed. The warrantee that we received has been exceptional. I recently purchased a spec home in Stewart Ridge from DJK. I am very happy with the overall quality of the home. When you hear about a “tight home” you don’t really realize what that means until you sleep in one. It’s so quiet! We are so happy we chose to build with DJK. I would do it again without hesitation. As they say, it can be a roller coaster of a ride when building a new house (and it was at times!). I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dan, mark, Annie, kevin, caryn and the entire DJK team for building our dream home. Dan was instrumental from the very beginning in helping design the house and having an idea of what my wife and I were looking for. After the first meeting he was able to determine our tastes and was able to design a floor plan that we absolutely fell in love with. Mark was our project manager and point of contact once the house was under construction. He was very professional and always answered our questions. He was on top off the different trades and made sure everything was done the way we wanted and was designed. Annie has a knack for interior design and helping pick out the interior off the house and was always available to provide invaluable input. It was a long, fun, and at times, stressful journey, however DJK was there every step off the way and never made us feel pressured. The entire team was very easy to work with as they took their time to make us feel welcome and like we were a part of their family. They answered any questions we had thoroughly and offered suggestions. Their genuine interest in our specific needs, coupled with their dedicated attention to detail, perfection and professionalism is truly admired. We had high expectations that were exceeded at every turn. We absolutely love our home and it turned out better than expected. We recently moved from Atlanta to Naperville and finding a builder could be overwhelming when you have no local contacts to ask for advice. The 5 Star Ratings is mainly driven by a builder you can trust...they are a robust team, with high standards, follow a standard process, and a strong vendor base. We have less than 6 months in our new home and they have addressed all open items and/or directed us with recommendations on items we missed during the selection process. With regards to cost, I strongly recommend spending the time to learn more about the spec sheet versus your personal preferences and upgrade costs. Unless you stay within a standard selection package, I recommend using a 20% over budget calculator.

Asking DJK to build our home is one of the best decisions we've ever made. Annie, Kevin, Dan, and the rest of their staff is attentive, organized, and courteous. Throughout the entire process, the team was solutions-oriented and showed us that their top priority was building our dream home. It is with great pleasure we write this review of DJK Homes. After the decline in the housing market a few years ago, we felt certain would never want to purchase another home, let alone build one. Having lived in a high quality home previously, we knew what we would be looking for in the construction of a home once we made the decision to do so. After extensive on-line research, we visited homes by other builders but as soon as we walked into the DJK Model we knew we were in the right place. After our first meeting with Dan we were absolutely certain. Not only did he meet us on a Saturday before heading off on a weekend trip, he took all the time we needed to walk us through the whole process. He not only showed us the materials they use but also explained why those materials are preferred. He answered endless questions and we left that meeting feeling excited about the prospect of building our house. Dan introduced us to his entire team prior to the build and throughout the process we always felt like we were the only customer they had. The group could not have been friendlier. Every question, no matter how mundane, was answered within a reasonable time frame and with a smile. Dan was able to design the house we wanted in the size we were looking for and added some nice touches throughout to make it uniquely and distinctly ours. The entire DJK team understood our budget constraints, and throughout the process never made us feel like staying within a budget made us rank below their clients with larger homes. In fact, they very well understood that we wanted to stay on budget, and made us feel as important as if we’d had endless funds. Also noteworthy was that the entire DJK team made the process fun! From the meetings to the groundbreaking, every interaction was warm and friendly, as if we’d known everyone for years. They all seemed to enjoy the process and that made us enjoy a process we felt sure we’d dread. Annie’s help was invaluable. She has a gift in knowing what accents and compliments everything from the color of brick and siding you choose on the outside to the paint and wood on the inside. She gave us honest feedback on suggestions we had and we credit her for helping us avoid selections that we would have regretted later. When we suggested something that hadn’t been done before, she was excited to see how it would work, and didn’t push us into something we would have liked less. She also met with us based on our schedules even though we are sure it likely wasn’t the most convenient time for her to do so. She did this with a smile on her face every time. Mark was our project manager and he was fantastic. Pictures were posted to Builder Trend regularly so we were able to see how it all progressed from groundbreaking to close. He was always available to answer questions. Knowing he was providing the oversight for this build gave us a lot of confidence and he too had some great suggestions for finishes we have been really happy with. We were welcome to visit the building site any time and were never made to feel we were intruding or didn’t belong there. We were notified immediately of any hiccups or changes that were needed and we feel our build progressed as planned without a hitch – it was actually done earlier than we expected. As DJK builds another home across the street from us currently, we can see the time he takes with the vendors and tradesmen and how frequently he is there looking things over after they have gone. It is a good feeling to know that he did the same for us during our build. We specifically waited until we lived in our new house for a while before writing this review in order to fairly address this next point. The quality of our DJK home well exceeds the house we owned previously. It is phenomenal and impresses us every day. The house is solid, quiet, and energy efficient. The craftsmanship is exceptional. Nothing can beat the touch and feel of this home or in knowing that it was built exactly to our own specifications and choices. We have to thank Dan Kittilsen and the entire DJK team for building us this amazing home and for making us feel like family: Mark, Annie, Mat, Kim, Kevin, and Caryn – you guys are the best!

My husband and myself dreamed of retiring in downtown Naperville. We searched with a realtor for an existing home that would suit our needs and could not find one. We were introduced to DJK by our realtor (Debbie Lendino with John Greene) because of DJK's great reputation for quality work at a reasonable cost. From that very first meeting we were sold. We purchased an old home and did a "tear down", and we moved into our beautiful home November of 2017. Dan and his team dedicate themselves to excellent customer service from start to finish throughout and after the building process. They are reliable and responsive. Mark, the project manager, was someone we had regular contact with. He is a person of great honesty and integrity and has incredible work ethic! After months of searching for the right home and debating between buying or building, we stopped into the DJK office in Plainfield. We first met Matt who introduced us to Dan. After the first meeting with both Matt and Dan we knew we would build and no need of shopping around! We started the process by sharing our vision of the floor plan and the mixed home styles we liked, Dan did a fantastic job of translating our thoughts to paper also offering his opinion on features he thought would enhance our home. After being in the home for six months, we are amazed by the quality and craftsmanship, Dan obviously works only with the best. Support after closing is truly amazing as well with Caryn and team addressing all of our concerns, no questions asked. All follow up requests have been met with a smile and a lets get it done attitude. Through the whole process and even to today, I feel Dan and team can deliver on any size project no matter how challenging with confidence. In our minds there is nothing this team can not do! We truly love our home and thank Dan and his entire DJK team for the support and providing us with the home we always dreamed of.

We built our home with DJK Custom Builders a little over a year ago and we LOVE our home. Everything from the quality of work to the detail of our home. It's the home we have dreamed of having and DJK made that happen. Everyone we worked with at DJK were very professional and did great work. For over 2 years, Gayle and I searched for an exceptional lot and for someone to build a special house on that lot. We were interested in a 1st floor master bedroom and a fantastic open, but energy-efficient, floor plan. Our search was completed when we found DJK Custom Homes. We moved from St. Louis to the Chicago Area in June of 2015. We had gone through the experience of building 2 previous homes so we were familiar with the process. We talked with 2 other builders in the area in addition to DJK, but the comfort level we experienced dealing with Dan personally was the deciding factor in our decision to go with DJK. We can honestly say, Dan is a man of his word. You will always have some hiccups during the building of new home, and when we had ours, Dan was always fair and made it right. Dan also has a great eye for design. When you are building a home where there are often no existing examples of combinations of stone, siding, room orientation, colors, etc., it is really hard to be sure you will like it. In these instances, Dan walked thru these with us and everything came out great in the end. There were also several situations where we just showed up with a picture or drawing and they just made it happen. Mark, the Project Manager on the build, was also great to work with. Since we lived in St. Louis during the entire project, it was a challenge to stay updated, but Mark was always available and kept us updated through photos on their website that he would upload every week. We have now lived in the house for 9 months and we have not had any real issues. The quality is excellent and we would recommend DJK to anyone. - The Brennan Family

DJK has been a great company to work with and we are glad we chose them to build our new house. We did not want a cookie cutter type house and DKJ was defiantly able think out side of the box and provide us a wonderful custom built home. They were able to take our ideas and quickly turn them into a house design. Work was completed under a tight schedule because of our relocation from out of state. DJK was very responsive to all our questions and issues we had during the process were quickly addressed. Even after closing they have been just as responsive. We had an issue with the roof due to bad shingles from the manufacture. Rather than just patching up the roof, DJK completely remove all the shingles down to the decking on the entire roof and replace everything to make sure that we did not have any problems in the future. Overall, DJK paid attention to the details and provided us a great quality custom home…I would not hesitate to recommend them.

My wife and I researched and interviewed many builders prior to making a decision on one. When we walked the DKJ model we were very impressed with the elevation changes of the floors and ceilinsg and the overall layout. I was more impressed with my interview of the owner, Dan Kittilsen, with his openesss and honesty. As the project progressed I personally asked for many architectural changes and Dan stretched and pulled subject model into perfection. In addition, I required a green certified home and Dan schooled himself into an expert during the course of the project to get an overall silver rating on a home much greater than 4000 SQ FT, which is extremely difficult to achieve. His attention to detail is impeccable and his "The Difference is in the Details" is a true statement. I highly recommend this builder for new homes, additions and remodeling.

DJK built a custom home for us. They worked within our budget and helped with changes we wanted to make that were not on the original plans. Most impressive is the warranty. Our 2 year warranty expired yet DJK took care of every concern and blemish we noticed. Strongly recommend this company.

I can't say enough about DJK Custom Homes. We built our first home with DJK in 1996. Dan exceeded our expectations in every way and we decided to build our second home with Dan in 2002. We are still living in our home and LOVE it! Dan is always involved and will go that extra mile to make sure every detail is perfect. I think it is rare to find such individuals that take such pride in their work. Dan and his team love what they do. I would recommend them to anyone that is interested in building a home.

DJK built our home about 2 years ago. Dan and his team are excellent to work with! They are professional, detail oriented and have systems in place to take care of any issues even after you've moved in. We've lived in our home for 2 years now, and continue to get so many compliments on the construction and level of detail in our home. We built our beautiful home eight years ago and the reason I am writing this review now is that I was just reminded what a grea company DJK was to work with. Eight years later if we call or email Dan he gets right back to us and offers any help he can. Our home building experience with DJK was enjoyable from the day we signed until the day we moved in and still is to this day.We have enjoyed every minute and detail of our home and if we were going to build again there is no doubt who our builder would be.
