There were to many disjointed spaces in the existing Eichler home, and the owners didn’t like entering right into the kitchen wall. There were not enough functional spaces in the house but it was tricky to see how or where to add to the home without losing the atrium. The Klopf team re-arranged the spaces in the house to put the bedroom functions under the flat, 8-foot ceiling and the whole great room under the higher gable roof, moving the kitchen to the corner and creating a symmetrical and regular-shaped great room. A narrow band of skylights and a reduced, but still open, atrium brighten the family’s days and bring more greenery into their lives. The Klopf team turned the small front bedroom into a laundry room, powder room, and hallway to a large, added work-from-home office/family room that can double as a guest room. From the street the addition looks like it might have been there all along, but for the family members it’s a game-changer. Designer and mom of two, Veronica and her expert team consisting of design guru Tommy Rouse, master builder David Bohler and talented artist Joshua Smith meet with their clients to learn about their family background and meaningful moments from their past. This inspiration allows Veronica to transform the home, creating beautiful and modern spaces that honor the family’s cultural heritage. Clerestory windows and glass doors allow natural light to brighten this bedroom in a guest casita. A custom neon sign over a low-profile upholstered bed adds a fun touch to the casual space.

The client recently moved from Connecticut to West Palm Beach, and she was thrilled about her tall ceilings and airy, open floor plan! However the home was too modern (and brown!) for her taste, so the design scope included a bit of remodeling and a lot of redecorating. We started by painting all the walls white to enhance & brighten the open spaces. Incorporating the client’s bohemian vibe was the most exciting part of this project. We picked a few rooms for fun wallpaper, and you’ll notice an animal theme throughout the home. Textured, layered accessories were curated to create depth, interest and accomplish a “lived-in” home design.

Gorgeous kitchen with black shaker cabinets and blue island offer an impact in this kitchen remodel. A new window to brighter the space and metallic accents from the brass cabinet knobs to brass light fixtures add room brightening contrast.

In the primary bedroom, our focus was on creating a space that felt both elevated and comfortable with a masculine edge. We brightened the room with a dynamic abstract wallpaper mural, introducing movement and visual depth. The large existing mirror was repositioned between the windows to expand the sense of scale, making the room feel even more spacious. Leather seating and a bench add strength and richness, while the channeled upholstered bed and plush bedding soften the overall feel. Updated wood flooring, new nightstands, and a custom built-in infuse warmth and ground the space in natural elements. A plush area rug provides comfort underfoot, while woven window treatments add texture and complement the darker tones in the wallpaper. The design carefully balances black and gray tones with bright accents to maintain an airy feel. Gold finishes and mixed metals were layered throughout, tying into the home’s broader design palette. A new ceiling fan with wood-toned blades harmonizes with the natural elements and furnishings. The result is a bedroom that feels polished, grounded, and richly layered with materials and textures.

Close to Lincoln Center Plaza, two existing apartments were combined into a single custom tailored 4-bedroom residence. Characteristic with other buildings from the same post-war era, the existing apartments suffered greatly from a low, monotonous ceiling slab. To break up the ceiling, floating planes containing low-profile LED recessed lighting were incorporated throughout. Grey-washed birch veneer millwork is seen as you enter into the new foyer space. A blackened steel inlaid panel serves as a datum that continues throughout the apartment, wrapping the entry unit and extending around the corner to then transform into a floating bookshelf. The unit not only divides the entry area from the Living room, but also serves its utilitarian purpose on the foyer side as coat and storage closets, and then an entertaining function on the opposing side with a TV niche and custom liquor bar. Whitewashed rift and quartered white oak floors were used to brighten the space. In the kitchen, marble counters extend up the wall and onto the ceiling marking the separation of the kitchen/dining area from the living room/entry area. The kid’s room contains a custom curved desk area built beneath the bay windows to take advantage of the views. In the master bedroom, the blackened steel inlay reappears inset into the wardrobe wall unit.

For this entry, we decided to paint it a white color to brighten it up. We changed the interior doors to 3/4 glass with black hardware to create a more open feeling.

Using unique darker undertones to highlight areas of the Kitchen along with brightening the space up with the white cabinets and paint, this Kitchen has warmth and classic with transitional feels that work in all design styles.

Oakland, CA: Addition and remodel to a rustic ranch home. The existing house had lovely woodwork but was dark and enclosed. The house borders on a regional park and our clients wanted to open up the space to the expansive yard, to allow views, bring in light, and modernize the spaces. New wide exterior accordion doors, with a thin screen that pulls across the opening, connect inside to outside. We retained the existing exposed redwood rafters, and repeated the pattern in the new spaces, while adding lighter materials to brighten the spaces. We positioned exterior doors for views through the whole house. Ceilings were raised and doorways repositioned to make a complicated and closed-in layout simpler and more coherent.

Located in Denver’s Hilltop area, the clients were in need of an updated kitchen and master bathroom. The goal was to brighten the rooms with fresh paints, avoiding wood tones. The clients wanted to keep the cherry wood island top in the kitchen, so it was important to incorporate it into the new kitchen design. The kitchen was designed with custom cabinetry stacked to the ceiling, marble backsplash, and marble countertops using macaubas quartzite. Other features of the kitchen included an updated backsplash with a custom drywall range hood. The master bathroom was completely gutted and updated with hexagon tiles and a freestanding tub.
