Any of the work we have done on this Louis Kahn house had to meet with all the architectural conformities of Louis Kahn's design. Creating motorized solar shade protection for the eastern exposed window wall and for the western exposed kitchen, blackout draperies for the home theater, and even the wood blinds in the bedrooms, has all had their share of challenges. But each time, the challenge was met with a solution that both pleased the home owner and held up to the standards deserving of this structure.

Após 8 anos no apartamento, morando conforme o padrão entregue pela construtora, os proprietários resolveram fazer um projeto que refletisse a identidade deles. Desafio aceito! Foram 3 meses de projeto, 2 meses de orçamentos/planejamento e 4 meses de obra. Aproveitamos os móveis existentes, criamos outros necessários, aproveitamos o piso de madeira. Instalamos ar condicionado em todos os dormitórios e sala e forro de gesso somente nos ambientes necessários. Na sala invertemos o layout criando 3 ambientes. A sala de jantar ficou mais próxima à cozinha e recebeu a peça mais importante do projeto, solicitada pela cliente, um lustre de cristal. Um estar junto do cantinho do bar. E o home theater mais próximo à entrada dos quartos e próximo à varanda, onde ficou um cantinho para relaxar e ler, com uma rede e um painel verde com rega automatizada. Na cozinha de móveis da Elgin Cuisine, trocamos o piso e revestimos as paredes de fórmica. Na suíte do casal, colocamos forro de gesso com sanca e repaginamos as paredes com papel de parede branco, deixando o espaço clean e chique. Para o quarto do Mateus de 9 anos, utilizamos uma decoração que facilmente pudesse mudar na chegada da sua adolescência. Fã de Corinthians e de uma personalidade forte, solicitou que uma frase de uma música inspiradora fosse escrita na parede. O artista plástico Ronaldo Cazuza fez a arte a mão-livre. Os brinquedos ainda ficaram, mas as cores mais sóbrias da parede, mesa lateral, tapete e cortina deixam espaço para futura mutação menino-garoto. A cadeira amarela deixa o espaço mais descontraído. Todos os banheiros foram 100% repaginados, cada um com revestimentos que mais refletiam a personalidade de cada morador, já que cada um tem o seu privativo. About the project: Originally a single family home, this four unit apartment building was broken up in a way that each apartment has a different layout. The challenge for Piperbear Designs was how to reimagine each space to conform with the needs of the modern tenant – while also adding design flourishes that will make each unit feel special. Located on historic West Grace in Richmond, Virginia, the property is surrounded by a mix of attractive single family homes and small historic apartment buildings. Walking distance to the Science Museum of Virginia, Monument Ave, many hip restaurants, this block is a sought after location for young professionals moving to Richmond. Piperbear wanted to restore this building in a manner that respects the history of the area while also adding a design aesthetic that is in touch with the change happening in Richmond.

The low budget, family house project posed a challenge of conveniently arranging multiple rooms in small area. Pre-reconstruction edges of the walls were toned down, in order to conform to the new, minimalistic aesthetics and letting two colors prevail in the interior was also the part of the concept. The white walls and the large mirrors make the space appear sizable. The wooden components of the interior bring an unifying ambience into play. The technical lighting illuminates the rooms without distracting the eye. The objective of this project was to create privacy and a new entrance for the street frontage of property, around existing mature trees. The design brief included carefully positioning timber steps and decking to protect tree roots, creating an inviting pathway to an obscured front door, implementing soft landscaping that would grow quickly to enhance privacy whilst conforming with strict regulations working within a heritage area.

Photos By: Amy Birrer The home featured was built in 1956 in the height of the atomic age and we wanted to bring it back to its roots. The idea here is to pay homage to the 1950s without repeating them verbatim. In lieu of an aquamarine refrigerator, we used a large white AGA with modern lines and encased it in an aquamarine cabinet. We picked up the same color on the shelving on either side of the stainless Viking range. The cabinets are a framed inset construction with slab drawers and doors. The flat doors and drawers are in keeping with minimal embellishment, but using a framed inset cabinet adds interest to the space and breaks up the conformity.
