Departure l ArchitectureThe new driveway will wander through the forest and arrive at this corner. In renovating the existing covered porch areas, we were able to create a more "substantial" wood feeling and the new detailing allowed for 8x8 wood columns with a new wood guardrail system reflective of the "Cascadian" style. A new boulder edge will be constructed along the entire deck perimeter sometime in Spring 2015. It will be constructed to completely screen the area below the deck and this corner will ultimately be a commanding entry statement.

Distressed wood: The wood is cedar that's been treated to look distressed! My client is brilliant , so he did some googling (is that a word?) and came across several sites that had a recipe to do just that. He put a steel wool pad into a jar of vinegar and let it sit for a bit. In another jar, he mixed black tea with water. Brush the tea on first and let it dry. Then brush on the steel wool/vinegar (don't forget to strain the wool). Voila, the wood turns dark.
