The homeowner wanted to update his home and also prepare for the future. In the master bath, we removed the tub and the shower and created a large open, barrier free shower with a fold up shower seat and grab bars. We also added a handheld shower head on a sliding bar to be ready for whatever the future holds. The second bathroom was created from a spare bedroom. Again a large open space was installed with a roll-in, wheelchair accessible shower. This time a curved shower rod was used allowing more space inside the shower. As always, we installed grab bars and a hand held shower head. The homeowner wanted to keep the option open for anyone who might want to use a bathtub, so that feature was also included in the guest bath. Both bathrooms incorporate aging in place features while looking beautiful.

Massive full-gut remodel on a raised foundation home. We tore out all the rotten wood in the subfloor and crawl space and damaged studs and floor joists, we installed new floor joists and subfloor, we modified and moved the shower drain, installed new shower simulated-marble walls, new green board, we framed in between the studs to support the shelves and the grab bar, and installed new LVP slip-resistant bathroom flooring.

This project was a home extension to create an in-law suite with an on-suite bathroom. This addition was created by taking space from the garage to extend a small bonus room, this created more space and allowed us to add a large window, large closet and sitting area. We added an on suite by taking space from a hall closet behind the staircase, this allowed us enough room to add an on-suite that was handicap accessible with a roll-in shower and disability bars.

Robin Stancliff photo credits. My client’s main focus for this bathroom was to create a wheelchair accessible shower while maintaining a unique and rustic visual appeal. When we received this project, the majority of the bathroom had already been destroyed, and the new vanity was already in place. Our main contribution was the new ADA accessible shower. We decided to keep the Saltillo tile and brick wall in the bathroom to keep some of the original Southwestern charm of the home, and create a stone flooring for the base of the shower. By mixing a variety of colored stones and creating a stone detail up the side of the shower, we were able to add a modern and fresh touch to the shower. Aside from the stone detail, the sides of the shower are made up of rustic wood-look porcelain which fits the overall aesthetic of the bathroom while still being easy to clean. To accommodate a wheelchair, the shower is 5’ by 5’ with a 3’ door. The handheld bar at the back of the shower is an ADA compliant bar which has levers so it can be easily maneuvered. Overall, we aimed to create a sturdy structure for the shower that would hold up to various disability needs while still remaining chic. By adding rustic details and thoughtful ADA compliant components, this shower is useful and attractive.

This project was to convert a bathroom from the 60's and convert it to a modern bathroom for the elderly as the customer who has lived here for over 40 years needed the bathroom to be safer and easier to use. Included in the renovation is removing the tub and converting it to a shower, adding several grab bars and shower seat. The toilet was also changed to one that is more water efficient with an electric toilet bidet seat.

The ADA Accessibility Guidelines For Buildings and Facilities Section 4.5.4 specifies that ground and floor grates "shall have spaces no greater than 1/2 in (13 mm) wide in one direction."
