DOWNLOAD NOW   This client came to us in a bit of a panic when she realized that she really wanted her bathroom to be updated by March 1st due to having 2 daughters getting married in the spring and one graduating. We were only about 5 months out from that date, but decided we were up for the challenge. The beautiful historical home was built in 1896 by an ornithologist (bird expert), so we took our cues from that as a starting point. The flooring is a vintage basket weave of marble and limestone, the shower walls of the tub shower conversion are clad in subway tile with a vintage feel. The lighting, mirror and plumbing fixtures all have a vintage vibe that feels both fitting and up to date. To give a little of an eclectic feel, we chose a custom green paint color for the linen cabinet, mushroom paint for the ship lap paneling that clads the walls and selected a vintage mirror that ties in the color from the existing door trim. We utilized some antique trim from the home for the wainscot cap for more vintage flavor. The drama in the bathroom comes from the wallpaper and custom shower curtain, both in William Morris’s iconic “Strawberry Thief” print that tells the story of thrushes stealing fruit, so fitting for the home’s history. There is a lot of this pattern in a very small space, so we were careful to make sure the pattern on the wallpaper and shower curtain aligned. A sweet little bird tie back for the shower curtain completes the story... Photos taken by designer of this lovely formal Master bedroom. We achieved an elegant look adding fabrics with a sheen, luxury trims to set off the custom quilting of the duvet. Pillows in a variety of tones to add brightness and coordinate with the artwork and drapery treatments. The valance makes a strong statement with bold colors and cheerful flowers. Privacy and room darkening is provided by a cellular shade that peeks out under the valance to frame the view of tropical plants and rock pool in the back yard. French doors that open out bring the outside in and provide a vantage point above the pool. Subtle damask prints on the bed and chase bring a traditional elegance to the entire space. Bright red pillows with dragon flies re-enforce the tropical flavor.

The unused dining room was envisioned as a sitting room for family chats, girlfriend wine nights, and couples’ conversations. The inspiration was taken from the vintage stereo cabinet, which the family uses regularly to play LP’s. Lighting, furniture frames, and textural rug all evoke the flavors of the ’60s and warmly invite its guests. The theme continues into the super functional study, using minimalistic furniture (including a recliner that doesn’t look like one!) and a custom-built cabinet with inset drawers and doors, providing tons of storage. The light fixture here is the perfect punctuation to this special space, keeping it open and airy. The kitchen continues to boast minimalistic, yet prominent features. The sliding door, mid-century inspired seating and special glass top table (that has a self-contained extension when the party grows larger) are all unique pieces to define this spacious kitchen. Gold accents are throughout to warm up the space and keep it cozy.

The best of the past and present meet in this distinguished design. Custom craftsmanship and distinctive detailing give this lakefront residence its vintage flavor while an open and light-filled floor plan clearly mark it as contemporary. With its interesting shingled roof lines, abundant windows with decorative brackets and welcoming porch, the exterior takes in surrounding views while the interior meets and exceeds contemporary expectations of ease and comfort. The main level features almost 3,000 square feet of open living, from the charming entry with multiple window seats and built-in benches to the central 15 by 22-foot kitchen, 22 by 18-foot living room with fireplace and adjacent dining and a relaxing, almost 300-square-foot screened-in porch. The Missing Middle. A unique development in the Moodyville neighbourhood of North Vancouver. Working with Tina Hubert Architect, and Design Studio 8, we’ve completed a development project that fits the Missing Middle to a tee, and mix in our unique flavour of energy-efficient building. We’ve subdivided a 66′ wide, duplex-zoned lot into two new lots. One lot has a 700 sq. foot laneway home and a 2600 square foot main home. The other lot has two detached 1800 square foot homes, and a shared garage. We’re up to our usual tricks here: each of the homes we have built is 40% better than building code in terms of energy efficiency, and we’re aiming to have them certified Built Green Platinum, and three of the four homes have received the Energy Star rating. We’re excited to have brought together energy-efficient housing with a building style that revitalizes neighbourhoods and promotes diversity!

2016. "African Room" Interior Design Project by #OxaKovalli. The most exotic of all existing styles is the African style. A passion for the unfamiliar is so human. Decorating the interior in the African style excites the imagination and creates a sense of touching a mystery, something special. Maximum exotic and grotesque, it breaks the clichéd notions of how the interior should be. To give your home an African flavor, a global rearrangement of the apartment to arrange not necessarily. This style - is the very embodiment of dynamics, expression, and pounding vital energy. A neatly chosen game of contrasts can achieve an interesting visual effect in this interior. For example, for decorating the room, you can choose warm, soft, muted colors: sandy, terracotta, pale, the color of melted milk, ochre, or wood bark. Against this background, the items of decor, curtains, and drapery of saturated hues will look very impressive: scarlet or lemon-yellow finishing cloth of upholstered furniture, orange fixtures, and motley carpets with characteristic ornaments. In terms of colors, the African style imposes the only restriction: you should not use obviously synthetic, fluorescent colors.

Over 2,000 square feet of steep, scotch-broom-ridden hillside is transformed into a terraced, ecological garden with a wildflower meadow, pollinator habitat, and edible food forest. Beginning at the bottom of the hillside, a flower and herb garden offers easy access to seasonal colors and flavors. Further up, dry-stack Sonoma fieldstone walls line the meandering pathways, creating terraces and habitat nooks throughout the landscape while sequestering water so the garden can thrive. Lining the paths, underneath the live oak + redwood trees, drought-tolerant meadows and plant bouquets fill the open spaces.

After our redesign, we lightened the space by replacing a solid wall with retracting opaque ones. The guest bedroom wall now separates the open-plan dining space, featuring mid-century modern dining table and chairs in coordinating colors. A Chinese lamp matches the flavor of the shelving cutouts revealed by the sliding wall.
