When thinking of historic Saratoga, modern styling isn’t always the first thing to come to mind. Not for these clients…their home features sharp architectural details and oversized views of the lake. Prior to jumping into the kitchen project with Designer Justina Auer & Project Manager Steve Shanholtz, phase one included freshening up and adding a stacked laundry unit to an upstairs bathroom. Removing the laundry closet from the makeshift pantry area set the precedent for a more functional Butler’s Pantry which now includes a wet bar for beverages enjoyed in the morning or evening, a speed oven with warming drawer and tons of pantry storage. Like a domino effect, the Butler’s Pantry freed up the possibilities in the kitchen. The overall layout of the kitchen did not change, but tweaks were made to make it more functional to entertain and cook. Lead Carpenter Vinny Augustine executed the vision impeccably. Both the main & island sinks increased in size to allow two chefs to work in the space, while moving the fridge down created a large gadget & appliance garage storage. With three children under the age of 5, our clients were starting to feel the confines of their Pacific Heights home when the expansive 1902 Italianate across the street went on the market. After learning the home had been recently remodeled, they jumped at the chance to purchase a move-in ready property. We worked with them to infuse the already refined, elegant living areas with subtle edginess and handcrafted details, and also helped them reimagine unused space to delight their little ones. Elevated furnishings on the main floor complement the home’s existing high ceilings, modern brass bannisters and extensive walnut cabinetry. In the living room, sumptuous emerald upholstery on a velvet side chair balances the deep wood tones of the existing baby grand. Minimally and intentionally accessorized, the room feels formal but still retains a sharp edge—on the walls moody portraiture gets irreverent with a bold paint stroke, and on the the etagere, jagged crystals and metallic sculpture feel rugged and unapologetic. Throughout the main floor handcrafted, textured notes are everywhere—a nubby jute rug underlies inviting sofas in the family room and a half-moon mirror in the living room mixes geometric lines with flax-colored fringe. On the home’s lower level, we repurposed an unused wine cellar into a well-stocked craft room, with a custom chalkboard, art-display area and thoughtful storage. In the adjoining space, we installed a custom climbing wall and filled the balance of the room with low sofas, plush area rugs, poufs and storage baskets, creating the perfect space for active play or a quiet reading session. The bold colors and playful attitudes apparent in these spaces are echoed upstairs in each of the children’s imaginative bedrooms. When ALE Solutions asked us to help create a feeling of home and family for their corporate headquarters, we jumped at the chance! As the largest nationwide provider of temporary housing for people displaced by fire, tornado, earthquake, and hurricanes, ALE sought to create a more residential, “at home” feel for their new office space. We tailored each area to provide the comfort, functionality, and style in this highly productive workplace.

The Home The Branson’s covered porch, with its sturdy tapered columns, decorative pediment gables and large picturesque window-scape, invites you to enjoy a refreshing approach to a two-story bungalow-style home. Upon entering, The Branson features a bright and open study with a double-door closure. This project began right after the homeowners moved in. The only furnishings re-used were the beautiful rugs collected over time and travels. The goal was to create a welcoming space for family and friends to gather. We used the rugs as a jumping off point, choosing colourful fabrics and themes that reflect a global aesthetic. Living Room tables were carefully chosen to be individual pieces while allowing the rug to show through. The custom wall unit was designed by Teresa for the homeowners' many books and collectibles as well as the TV, and was built by Ian Schroeder of Forest Hill Woodwork and Cabinetry. The pool measures roughly 2300 square feet, and has a deep end of 10'0". The spa is raised and has 12 therapy heads. There is LED colored lighting throughout the project. There is a 300 square foot zero depth beach entry into the pool with agitator jets to keep the water moving. There is also a sunshelf within the pool. The lazy river wraps around the sunken island, and the current in the lazy river is propelled by a commercial waterpark quality pumping system. The sunken island has lighting, a fire pit, and a bridge connecting it to the decking area. There is an infinity edge on one edge of the pool. The pool also has an in-floor cleaning system to keep it clean and sanitary. The swimming pool also has the ability to change colors at night utilizing the amazing LED lighting system. The pool and spa exposed aggregate finish is French Gray color. The slide that cascades down the grotto is custom built. The waterfall grotto also provide a thrilling jump off point into the deepest part of the pool. This amazing backyard was designed and built for a home in Bull Valley Illinois.
