A rejuvenation project of the entire first floor of approx. 1700sq.
The kitchen was completely redone and redesigned with relocation of all major appliances, construction of a new functioning island and creating a more open and airy feeling in the space.
A "window" was opened from the kitchen to the living space to create a connection and practical work area between the kitchen and the new home bar lounge that was constructed in the living space.
New dramatic color scheme was used to create a "grandness" felling when you walk in through the front door and accent wall to be designated as the TV wall.
The stairs were completely redesigned from wood banisters and carpeted steps to a minimalistic iron design combining the mid-century idea with a bit of a modern Scandinavian look.
The old family room was repurposed to be the new official dinning area with a grand buffet cabinet line, dramatic light fixture and a new minimalistic look for the fireplace with 3d white tiles.

Preliminary architecture renderings were given to Obelisk Home with a challenge. The homeowners needed us to create an unusual but family friendly home, but also a home-based business functioning environment. Working with the architect, modifications were made to incorporate the desired functions for the family. Starting with the exterior, including landscape design, stone, brick and window selections a one-of-a-kind home was created. Every detail of the interior was created with the homeowner and the Obelisk Home design team.
Furnishings, art, accessories, and lighting were provided through Obelisk Home. We were challenged to incorporate existing furniture. So the team repurposed, re-finished and worked these items into the new plan. Custom paint colors and upholstery were purposely blended to add cohesion. Custom light fixtures were designed and manufactured for the main living areas giving the entire home a unique and personal feel.

The homeowners had a very specific vision for their large daylight basement. To begin, Neil Kelly's team, led by Portland Design Consultant Fabian Genovesi, took down numerous walls to completely open up the space, including the ceilings, and removed carpet to expose the concrete flooring. The concrete flooring was repaired, resurfaced and sealed with cracks in tact for authenticity. Beams and ductwork were left exposed, yet refined, with additional piping to conceal electrical and gas lines. Century-old reclaimed brick was hand-picked by the homeowner for the east interior wall, encasing stained glass windows which were are also reclaimed and more than 100 years old. Aluminum bar-top seating areas in two spaces. A media center with custom cabinetry and pistons repurposed as cabinet pulls. And the star of the show, a full 4-seat wet bar with custom glass shelving, more custom cabinetry, and an integrated television-- one of 3 TVs in the space. The new one-of-a-kind basement has room for a professional 10-person poker table, pool table, 14' shuffleboard table, and plush seating.

This fireplace was salvaged from the existing basement. Originally it had a bright brass finish with scratches. We dismantled the metal components and applied a spray metal primer followed by a black hammered metal paint from Rustoleum. All the imperfections disappeared.

The great room was enlarged with a two-story ceiling, a full wall of large-scale sliding doors and windows that overlook the backyard pool. The fireplace surround was revitalized with Arto Brick’s buckle patterned tile in a charcoal hue. A 1700s reclaimed timber is repurposed as the mantel piece, another nod to the old vs. new aesthetic.

Looking down towards the game room from the home's great room. It's a 100+ year old barn, that was purchased by the clients, disassembled, cleaned and pressure treated, and reassembled at its new location. Antique farming implements adorn the walls.

This two story home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver, built in 1911 needed a full gut and restoration/remodel. Preservation of key pieces like the original wood floor, pocket doors, fire place, built in hutch, staircase and the re-coating and re-purpose of the claw foot tub were center to the design. Modern bathrooms and kitchen were next on the clients request list. Major structural shortcomings were discovered between floors which precipitated new framing of the second story. Hydronic heat was run under all of the floors both main and second story.

In the family room, the clients had already installed new built-in cabinetry, refaced the fireplace, purchased the major furnishings, and painted the walls an earthy red. To the existing seating, we added a second comfortable armchair in front of the fireplace to create a more convivial conversation grouping. We re-purposed their vintage sideboard as a console behind the sectional, where it conveniently stores dishes and barbecue tools for alfresco dining on the adjoining patio. Fabrics in a mix of patterns on the toss pillows and drapery are the finishing touch.

We hired the owners of My Sister's Garage of Windham, Maine to decorate the entire house with a mixture of vintage, repurposed, new, and custom design elements to achieve a classic, campy vibe with a luxury feel.
We wanted to take advantage of the open space below the staircase to add some more seating to the living room and some additional storage. A pair of comfy water hyacinth wingbacks and a vintage dresser made a great conversation/reading area and gave us some additional storage for games. The salvage, jute, and glass elements on the dresser add some fun and tie in nicely with the rest of the room.
