What if your bathroom could be not just lackluster, but a place of real luxury … spacious, fresh, and beautiful? In this project, we gave new life to a bathroom that wasn’t meeting its full potential. This spacious, sunny bathroom’s layout and design were pre-existing, so the space simply needed freshening up. Our team did just that, through the use of careful planning, new materials, and skilled labor. With serenity in mind, we created an oasis, painting and tiling to bring the homeowner’s vision to life. While installing new tile required the removal and re-installation of all plumbing fixtures, the transformation was well worth it. This project is a great example of how choosing materials gives life to a space. Here, the wood-look floor tile, ceramic crackle wall tile, and glass mosaic detail strips join together to create the lush, luxurious look. Once we’d established a new look for the space, we turned our attention to the finishing touches, such as the deep soaker tub, square drain in the standing shower, and stone tops on the vanity and half-walls. These details complete the room, facilitating a sense of ease and tranquility. Dramatic circular molding adorns the Brussels style. This bold circular molding design is inspired by 18th century European furniture. Available in three popular finishes, white, charcoal grey and ash. This cabinet bed has a 50 inch wide x 5-1/2 inch deep drawer for storing pillows or bedding. Felt covered runners and fold out legs support the fold-down front panel when open. No need to remove objects from the top of the cabinet to use the bed. Simply move items towards the back, lift the flip top, open slide bolts to release the front panel. The flip top gives the sleeper more head room and special hardware keeps it in an upright position. The cabinet bed is an extraordinarily comfortable concelaed bed with a 40% smaller foot print than a sleeper sofa.

This Pond project consisted of removal and rebuilding of existing stream and pond. All new pond components were installed. The installation included pond liner, pump, rock, skimmer and filtration. This is a complete Aquascape ecosystem pond. The pond is roughly 15’x 20′ at its largest and has a 20′ meandering stream. We also installed a custom fire bowl spillway fountain. The self-contained fire fountain is a water feature with a fire feature in the center making it an ideal focal point or centerpiece to any outdoor setting. We customized this fountain to include a spillway as well. it is no longer self-contained. We incorporated it to work with the pond system. Simply add paraffin or “tiki torch fuel” and you’re ready to go. We also installed an automatic dosing system for ease of maintenance. This Pond was installed in Lancaster, PA. We also did some renovation work on the flagstone walkway along the pond.

Children’s waiting room interior design project at Princeton University. I was beyond thrilled when contacted by a team of scientists ( psychologists and neurologists ) at Princeton University. This group of professors and graduate students from the Turk-Brown Laboratory are conducting research on the infant’s brain by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (or fMRI), to see how they learn, remember and think. My job was to turn a tiny 7’x10′ windowless study room into an inviting but not too “clinical” waiting room for the mothers or fathers and siblings of the babies being studied. We needed to ensure a comfortable place for parents to rock and feed their babies while waiting their turn to go back to the laboratory, as well as a place to change the babies if needed. We wanted to stock some shelves with good books and while the room looks complete, we’re still sourcing something interactive to mount to the wall to help entertain toddlers who want something more active than reading or building blocks. Since there are no windows, I wanted to bring the outdoors inside. Princeton University‘s colors are orange, gray and black and the history behind those colors is very interesting. It seems there are a lot of squirrels on campus and these colors were selected for the three colors of squirrels often seem scampering around the university grounds. The orange squirrels are now extinct, but the gray and black squirrels are abundant, as I found when touring the campus with my son on installation day. Therefore we wanted to reflect this history in the room and decided to paint silhouettes of squirrels in these three colors throughout the room. While the ceilings are 10′ high in this tiny room, they’re very drab and boring. Given that it’s a drop ceiling, we can’t paint it a fun color as I typically do in my nurseries and kids’ rooms. To distract from the ugly ceiling, I contacted My Custom Creation through their Etsy shop and commissioned them to create a custom butterfly mobile to suspend from the ceiling to create a swath of butterflies moving across the room. Their customer service was impeccable and the end product was exactly what we wanted! The flooring in the space was simply coated concrete so I decided to use Flor carpet tiles to give it warmth and a grass-like appeal. These tiles are super easy to install and can easily be removed without any residual on the floor. I’ll be using them more often for sure! We started by removing the old support wall between the kitchen and living room and installing a new support beam to handle the weight. once that had been accomplished, the new hardwood floor was put down followed by new cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moores "Simply White" with the complimentary Island colour "Hale Navy". Cambria 3cm thick quartz countertops were then installed with a beautiful white undermount sink and stunning Brushed gold faucet to match the door hardware. We then installed the finishing touch, the subway backsplash and specially selected detailed mosaic tile behind the stove and exhaust hood for a stunning final result. Matching light fixtures also carried the brushed gold theme to a new level....outstanding!!!

The old kitchen really needed a face lift, and the customer has a large family, so entertaining a crowd at special occasions was very important to them. We removed a support wall and installed a beam to join 3 rooms together to create a space that a large number of people could feel right at home in! Pictures really don't do this kitchen justice, as it is simply awe inspiring when you are standing at the island! We were told that a recent 30 person gathering ended with everyone around the island having a great old time! Mission accomplished!

These homeowners came to J.P. Hoffman Design Build, looking for a creative solution to a problem they were told couldn’t be fixed. We defied the odds with our Design Build process and redesigned most of this Colonial’s first floor. Space for an island was number one on the want list. In order to achieve that goal, we did what we always do, We listened. We listened to what our client needed, how they used their space and how they envisioned their space. Then we designed a creative solution that made that seemingly unachievable vision, a reality. We removed the wall between the dining room and kitchen and expanded the kitchen cabinets into the hallway, once used to access the bathroom and garage. We simply re-routed the flow to the garage, through the now opened-up dining room, and in the process, created a new hallway with a coat closet, mudroom bench and access to the powder room which we also refreshed. In the kitchen, we relocated the slider leading out to the deck. This allowed for more cabinets and the floor space for that dream island. Our carpentry team installed a new kitchen window and slider, while modifying the existing deck to allow for the change. We installed new flooring, cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures and more. We receive lots of inquires about increasing function within the first floor. This project is a fantastic example of how it can be achieved, without an addition.

There were a few difficulties in making this kitchen any better than how it was. There was a separate staircase that had access to the second floor which was located in the kitchen. This left just enough room to push the dining room to one side. Then, there was the porch. A really nice panoramic view of the back, but was somehow under-used by the family during the summer months. Then, it was the size of the kitchen. It simply was way too small for a growing family, and while it had a peninsular in place, the flow just didn’t work. I remember watching them one day demonstrating how awkward it was using the kitchen. We got it! We had our marching orders to go and figure out how to make this kitchen work for this family. Everything in the room was fair play. The design was done to make the kitchen very open. For a few ideas, we incorporated the porch in the kitchen by using the nana wall idea but it ended up being too cost prohibitive to do so. We then decided to do a permanent fix by using a commercial glass wall application. Once we figured that out, we moved back inside and removed the staircase. This gave us two added benefits. One allowed us to really reconfigure the kitchen and the other opened up the second floor for a huge built in closet system. We relocated the windows, added a fire place with a built In TV above. From there, it was onto the kitchen itself which contained a huge Island with seating, large kitchen sink and built in appliances which was set up in a way to take advantage of the new layout. We re-positioned the kitchen facing the beautiful views outside rather than looking towards a wall. Now, when you enter the house up the entry stairs, the kitchen now draws you into the magnificent new open space. This is now setup for entertaining, relaxation, hanging out and most of all, preparing meals in a room where you only have to leave if you want to. This one was all about the design. Design was what made this space. Setting this space up for success was crucial, and this kitchen is a great example of how design can cover a multitude of sins in Kitchen designs. … Just close your eyes for a second and imagine waking up one winter morning and having a cup of coffee and watching the snow fall through those huge windows, leaning up against those 3D feature walls while watching the kids sitting around the table enjoying those warm radiant heated floors in this spacious kitchen…..

The Challenge This beautiful waterfront home was begging for an update. Our clients wanted a contemporary design with modern finishes. They craved improved functionality in the kitchen, hardwood flooring in the living areas, and a spacious walk-in closet in the master bathroom. With two children in school, our clients also needed the project completed during their summer vacation – leaving a slim 90 days for the entire remodel. Could we do it? …Challenge accepted! Our Solution With their active summer travel schedule, our clients elected to vacate their home for the duration of the project. This was ideal for the intrusive nature of the scope of work. In preparation, our design team created a project plan to suit our client’s needs. With such a clear timeline, we were able to select and order long-lead items in plenty of time for the project start date. In the kitchen, we rearranged the layout to provide superior ventilation for the cooktop on the exterior wall. We added two large storage cabinets with glass doors, accented by a sleek mosaic backsplash of glass tile. We also incorporated a large contemporary waterfall island into the room. With seating at one end, the island provides both increased functionality and an eye-catching focal point for the center of the room. On the interior wall of the kitchen, we maximized storage with a wall of built-in cabinetry – complete with pullout pantry cabinets, a double oven, and a large stainless refrigerator. Our clients wisely chose rich, dark-colored wood flooring to add warmth to the contemporary design. After installing the flooring in the kitchen, we brought it into the main living areas as well. In the great room, we wrapped the existing gas fireplace in a neutral stack stone. The effect of the stone on the media and window wall is breathtaking. In the master bathroom, we expanded the closet by pushing the wall back into the adjacent pass-through hallway. The new walk-in closet now includes an impressive closet organization system. Returning to the master bathroom, we removed the single vanity and repositioned the toilet, allowing for a new, curb-less glass shower and a his-and-hers vanity. The entire vanity and shower wall is finished in white 12×24 porcelain tile. The vertical glass mosaic accent band and backlit floating mirrors add to the clean, modern style. To the left of the master bathroom entry, we even added a matching make-up area. Finally, we installed a number of elegant enhancements in the remaining rooms. The clients chose a bronze metal relief accent wall as well as some colorful finishes and artwork for the entry and hallway. Exceptional Results Our clients were simply thrilled with the final product! Not only did they return from their summer vacation to a gorgeous home remodel, but we concluded the project a full week ahead of schedule. As a result, the family was able to move in sooner than planned, giving them plenty of time to acclimate to the renovated space before their kids returned to school. Ultimately, we provided the outstanding results and customer experience that our clients had been searching for. “We met with many other contractors leading up to signing with Progressive Design Build. Our homeowner came to us with an older backsplit bungalow with 3 traditionally divided rooms which they wanted to unify into one large kitchen and family room space. After removing all the walls and bulkheads we were able to put new plank flooring throughout the new open space. We then installed new, Benjamin Moore painted custom cabinetry in the kitchen area followed by stunning Cambria quartz countertops in the "Portrush" colour. We are very proud of this kitchen renovation, for an older home in Kemptville. The house as you can see from the before photos, was quite dated, to the original kitchen, so it was time for an upgrade. We removed a wall, separating the dining area to the kitchen, and had to install a beam above the island. We simply clad it in drywall for a clean aesthetic. Our team completed this simple and beautiful kitchen in 2023. We removed the kitchen partition wall and installed a 3-ply LVL beam which we then cladded in an unfinished oak veneer. The cabinets were built custom and painted Benjamin Moore Gunmetal - 1902. We also tiled the kitchen, dining and sitting area floor, and backsplash. The idea was to simply maximize the kitchen space but to open up area and allow more natural light in. The clients have a rear addition with a separate living area which made this layout more feasible.

Classic meets Modern in this West Village historic home renovation! Preserving the character and architectural integrity of this home while updating it for this modern busy family, we infused the design with old world charm but make it hip. We started by ripping everything down to the studs, re-arranging the kitchen for a more open feel, adding an oversized accordion door facing the backyard, and adding a powder room where the hallway used to be. Opening up the 1st floor from front to back allowed the eye to carry along from the entry to the patio. While maintaining a neutral background, we played around with pops of jewel-tones in the accent furniture and art. The stunning Thomas Newman Pearl Chandelier centered the sitting area around the original fireplace. The original vestibule was removed creating an open welcoming foyer, fitted with checkerboard marble floor. While the stairs for all 3 floors of the home were completely reconstructed, we were able to keep the original spindles and handrail, simply updating it with a dramatic black stain.
