Inspiration for a mid-sized timeless wooden straight staircase remodel in Detroit with painted risers

The client didn't want to hide the arched shape of this window, so I made a template of the curve in order to build a framework to match it. I love the way it turned out!

The existing irregularly shaped staircase was previously carpeted. No single tread was the same size or shape as another. Templates were made and quartersawn white oak boards were first ripped down to pie shaped blanks to form the glue-up slabs for each of the 13 -14 treads. Glued and biscuited for extra strength. Note the extra touches at the top 3 treads where the return pieces are sharply curved.

The fireplace surround is custom built by Logan Baum and Tobin Hodson, of Built2Last of Stroudsburg. The tile is from North Prairie Tileworks and is handmade and hand cut. We made a template to be able to have the Keystone and flanking pieces above the arch stand out from the field tile.

Custom Color matched glass backsplash. Fabricated and templates for range hood holes with tempered glass. Electrical outlets are covered with real glass cover plates also back panted to match seamlessly.

*This is the original piece before the customization. Custom designed Amish-crafted sideboard built with reclaimed barnwood. Customer requested we augment original template to remove center drawers and add an additional door to maximize storage. Natural finish on top with a rubbed Hearthside Red paint on case. "Mermaid Cottage" a sweet girls room makeover for two sisters! On the rear wall we designed a star template and painted pale bubblegum pink stars. We added a bamboo dress-up chest and lots of hanging lanterns & tissue paper pom poms
