The kitchen opens to the courtyard and has been upgraded with custom made cabinets, Calcutta marble countertops, and Viking appliances.

We moved the stove to where the old sink was and selected a hood-only rather than a microwave/hood. We downsized the microwave to a compact one and relocated it into a cabinet on the opposite wall. A hanging utensil bar was mounted on the backsplash to free-up counter space. Deep drawers on either side of the Viking Range allow for easy access to pots and pans. The upper cabinets keep spices within reach as well as dishes for easy plating. Since the majority (if not all) of the kitchen elements were square (i.e. at right angles) and aligned, having the subway tile stacked or with the traditional half offset felt too static and concrete. To add the illusion of motion without breaking the "everything square" design, I had the subway tile installed in one-third offsets.

About the photo: The cabinets are Mastro Rosolino - our private line of cabinetry. The finish on the perimeter is paint and glazed, the bar and islands are walnut with a stain and glaze. The cabinet style is beaded inset. The hearth features one of our custom reclaimed tin hoods- only available through us. The countertops are Grey-Gold limestone, 2 1/2" thick. The backsplash is polished travertine, chiard, and honey onyx. The backsplash was done by Stratta in Wyckoff, NJ. The flooring is tumbled travertine. The appliances are: Sub-zero BI48S/O, Viking 60" dual fuel range, Viking dishwasher, Viking VMOC206 micro, Viking wine refrigerator, Marvel ice machine.
