Part of an addition on the back of the home, this outdoor kitchen space is brand new to a pair of homeowners who love to entertain, cook, and most important to this space - grill. A new covered back porch makes space for an outdoor living area along with a highly functioning kitchen.
Cabinets are from NatureKast and are Weatherproof outdoor cabinets. The appliances are mostly from Blaze including a 34" Pro Grill, 30" Griddle, and 42" vent hood. The 30" Warming Drawer under the griddle is from Dacor. The sink is a Blanco Quatrus single-bowl undermount.
The other major focal point is the brick work in the outdoor kitchen and entire exterior addition. The original brick from ACME is still made today, but only in 4 of the 6 colors in that palette. We carefully demo'ed brick from the existing exterior wall to utilize on the side to blend into the existing brick, and then used new brick only on the columns and on the back face of the home. The brick screen wall behind the cooking surface was custom laid to create a special cross pattern. This allows for better air flow and lets the evening west sun come into the space.

Our clients came to us looking to do some updates to their new condo unit primarily in the kitchen and living room. The couple has a lifelong love of Arts and Crafts and Modernism, and are the co-founders of PrairieMod, an online retailer that offers timeless modern lifestyle through American made, handcrafted, and exclusively designed products. So, having such a design savvy client was super exciting for us, especially since the couple had many unique pieces of pottery and furniture to provide inspiration for the design.
The condo is a large, sunny top floor unit, with a large open feel. The existing kitchen was a peninsula which housed the sink, and they wanted to change that out to an island, relocating the new sink there as well. This can sometimes be tricky with all the plumbing for the building potentially running up through one stack. After consulting with our contractor team, it was determined that our plan would likely work and after confirmation at demo, we pushed on.
The new kitchen is a simple L-shaped space, featuring several storage devices for trash, trays dividers and roll out shelving. To keep the budget in check, we used semi-custom cabinetry, but added custom details including a shiplap hood with white oak detail that plays off the oak “X” endcaps at the island, as well as some of the couple’s existing white oak furniture. We also mixed metals with gold hardware and plumbing and matte black lighting that plays well with the unique black herringbone backsplash and metal barstools. New weathered oak flooring throughout the unit provides a nice soft backdrop for all the updates. We wanted to take the cabinets to the ceiling to obtain as much storage as possible, but an angled soffit on two of the walls provided a bit of a challenge. We asked our carpenter to field modify a few of the wall cabinets where necessary and now the space is truly custom.
Part of the project also included a new fireplace design including a custom mantle that houses a built-in sound bar and a Panasonic Frame TV, that doubles as hanging artwork when not in use. The TV is mounted flush to the wall, and there are different finishes for the frame available. The TV can display works of art or family photos while not in use. We repeated the black herringbone tile for the fireplace surround here and installed bookshelves on either side for storage and media components.

From the main entryway the home opens up into a large living room with high ceilings. The floor plan is open to the dining room and family room with views all the way to the backyard and side gardens. The room features a weathered wood fireplace and ceiling with white beams, which set the stage for the beach theme throughout the home. Custom upholstery and area rugs throughout the home are light in color with pillows and accessories as accent colors. The home was remodeled with a layout and all new hardwood floors. A custom dining table sits beneath a large nautical themed chandelier. Roman shades with striped accents and fun patterned chairs keep the space feeling casual and inviting.

The peaked main wall, painted in a dark gray lends understated drama to a decidedly masculine room, and acts as a beautiful backdrop for a Robert Kingston painting.
Custom designed, extra long sofa flanked by period-perfect sconces, comfortable swivel chair, and leather bench. A vintage game table, also gets plenty of use.
Surrounding walls, painted in lighter gray complement the custom woven tan, indigo and rust-colored Navajo rug.

For an 1890s-era property in Northborough, Massachusetts, we completely revitalized the kitchen to be a beautiful gathering spot for a busy family. The homeowners wanted to ensure the space paid homage to the heritage style of the home while maintaining an open and minimalist aesthetic.
To that end, we removed all the wall cabinets and incorporated most of the storage in the base cabinets. The simple Shaker-style doors with brass hardware fit perfectly into the design, with the painted green and natural rustic walnut cabinets offering a gorgeous contrast to the white cabinets. To further transform the kitchen, we added more windows to the previously dark, enclosed space. The ceiling beams are reclaimed wood beams from a mill building in the area and complement the custom walnut butcher block and rustic walnut glass wall cabinet. Another unique feature is the weathered, matte soapstone finish of the black granite on the countertops rather than the more typical polished effect.

This rustic lakeside living room centers around a stone fireplace beneath a reclaimed wood ceiling with exposed beams, paired with a leather sectional, built-in wood cabinetry, and a wall of windows and glass doors opening to the lake beyond.
The Antique Skim Oak ceiling paneling is milled from a mix of red and white oak, salvaged from century old structures across the United States, skip planed to leave the distressed marks of its original milling intact. The Weathered Antique box beams are built from a mix of softwoods, from hemlock to pine, sourced from joists, roof boards, decking, and walls of late 19th and early 20th century structures, carrying a natural patina earned over a century of weathering. The Antique White Oak mantel is milled from timberstock salvaged from 19th century industrial buildings, showcasing the grain patterns and durability of old growth oak against the stacked stone fireplace.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, a homeowner, or a designer planning a lakeside living room, Manomin Resawn Timbers has reclaimed wood ceiling paneling, box beams, and mantels to bring that antique charm into your space. Island Cove House keeps a low profile on the horizon. On the driveway side it rambles along like a cottage that grew over time, while on the water side it is more ordered. Weathering shingles and gray-brown trim help the house blend with its surroundings. Heating and cooling are delivered by a geothermal system, and much of the electricity comes from solar panels.
