“Steve's guys Ian and Brian finished my new, very large front porch last week and I am SO DELIGHTED with it! They did a phenomenal job every step of the way -- I watched some of it out of curiosity and was constantly impressed by their attention to detail and their incredible work ethic. I had to keep asking them if they wanted water or needed to take a break -- they just worked SO HARD and several days we had 90-degree temps with high humidity. It didn't faze them at all! Many of my neighbors commented that they were really impressed seeing the porch go up day by day -- Ian and Brian just got so much work done every day they were here. The porch is really beautiful -- a great size at 32' wide by 10' deep with a 6-foot entry area with a couple of stairs, lovely rails/balusters, a corrugated metal roof, lattice to keep critters out, etc.! I have been enjoying it (sometimes with some of the neighbors!) every day since they finished, and I know I will love it even more this fall when we have gorgeous weather for sitting outside. Forgot to mention, they had to repair the front of my house from its concrete steps being ripped away by a different contractor several years ago (sewer work had to be done) -- it looked really bad but Ian & Brian worked diligently to clear out any rotten wood and then install a very solid front area above my basement concrete. I was worried that the repair work would take a week and cost a fortune (there was simply no way to know until they got in there) but they were diligent and careful and I was SO pleased with their work -- and that was before they even started building the porch itself! Oh, they also made a little wood hatch for my sewer clean-out port, which is below part of the porch -- it should work great and they even made it look good! I have used Steve's company for many projects since 2018 and have always been happy with them. They've taken down a load-bearing wall, re-done my entire kitchen including all the cabinets + new hardwood flooring etc., tiled several areas of my house, installed drop-down stairs to my garage loft (MUCH more stable than the ladder I'd been using), re-done a bathroom (replaced a tub with a shower stall & much-needed closet, added wainscoting, replaced the floor, etc.), built a concrete pad for a big shed, installed a new front door, and I'm sure a few other things I'm forgetting at the moment! Steve himself has been GREAT in answering my dozens if not hundreds of questions over the years. I will have them back in the next few months for more projects! I call on them whenever I need anything done -- their work is always wonderful and affordable too, and that's a very difficult combination. I trust them without reservation -- hard to find this level of trust with some contractors, so I have been very lucky. They are worth waiting for when they have other projects ahead of mine! “There's an old saying about competent carpentry; 'Measure twice, cut once.' The care with which BRJ Builders executes a project is galaxies beyond that. It is obvious that Ben John, owner of BRJ, is sincerely interested in saving money for his customers while providing first-class work. For example, I thought maybe power-washing the asphalt shingles of the roof would be a good idea. Ben advised not to do that, as it could shorten the life of the shingles. Hundreds of dollars saved right there - plus putting off by years the need to spend big bucks on a new roof! I was thinking of buying a new screen door, but Ben said it is in good shape - now, with a little attention, it looks/works like new. Another couple hundred saved! In establishing a plan for repairs and painting of the house, Ben's expertise is obvious. He clearly explained the sequence of stages for the work - easy to understand the plan. Planning the project was easy and pleasant - and a joint venture in decision-making, as Ben really listens to his customers. The contract for work was extremely detailed and well-organized - every expense accounted for. Pricing quite reasonable, given the sky-high cost of materials and the time needed to provide outstanding results. The project managers (thanks Josh and Daniel!), crew and subcontractors' knowledge, skill and dedication is second to none. Seeing them work together in grounded, focused, caring way gave me a great sense of calm - of being in very good hands. No hurrying - they all labored over details as though it were their own home on which they were working. Clean-up - fabulous - no worries about stepping on a splinter or screw. All really good, intelligent, nice people easy to have here for days on end! One of the carpenters, Chris Hill, singlehandedly and with great precision, replaced tongue-in-groove siding that had deteriorated due to dry rot - making it all like new. He frequently checked in with me with questions on anything that might require a choice or decision on my part. He did a masterful job re-positioning a door - which entailed cutting into some concrete and rebar. Ben made every effort to stay on schedule. He and his project managers admirably completed work in a time-frame that worked well for me. BRJ Builders subcontractor, Eli Painting went above and beyond to provide superior paints and stains that will last decades - not just a few years. He also made sure I was happy with color choices. When a problem arose in wood accepting the stain - Eli came up with a superior solution that looked better than anticipated! Eli's men took extreme care in thorough prep work. The application of the paint and stain was done with great patience and accuracy. Eli's men were even extra careful when they had to put a ladder among my prized lilies in a flower bed. As with Ben's carpentry crew - really good men who were a pleasure to have here. I would give BRJ Builders 10 stars if I could!”

“Professionalism, honesty, Itegrity, are just a few words I could use to describe Dan and State Line Construction. My kitchen project required that a wall needed to be removed and that I would need to install a microlamb beam to provide support to the second floor and the roof structure above. I asked three contractors to look at the project to determine a scope of work and give me a quote. The first conpany never got back to me, the second one quoted in the high teens, State Line's quote was under 7 thousand. For three weeks Dan worked with the engineers at his lumber yard to get a work drawing and list of materials for my beam only to find out one was not needed. Even though Dan didn't make any money from me and knew he was not, he still spent time answering my question and gave me advice and guidence. I am retired now but in my day as a heavey mechanical supervisor of up 60 trades people with different specialties, it is my pleasure to write this review, It was my pleasure to have met Dan. Dan I applaud you sir, two thumbs up.”
