I think Perfume Factory is a winner, but may bloom better next season-we always love her.Light Years Away has a petal packed, sumptous bloom! P Aura and F Forward have amazing fragrant blooms! Yummy! Is Heavenly Scented strongly fragrant, too? I am really loving hearing about these fragrant roses! It’s truly the way to go! It’s like a whole new way to shop for roses for me-“they must have fragrance!” I smelled Rue St Honore almost every day when she bloomed-love her fragrance! Mme Isaac P can grow rather large climbing. Mme D has & Mme MIP both are truly sumptous and voluptous bloomers! I really love fragrant Yolanda de Aragon with petal packed HUGE fragrant blooms! La Reine gorgeous blooms a ton!!! My fave fragrant OGRs. Each day I have difficulty typing& saving posts on Houzz on phone. Editing is complicated & I loose it constantly. Must fix phone after move -too many rose photos stored on phone to function well-must delete. There’s always to orrow! Short posts are easiest for now or cobstant savibg! LOL!

Reply to: My Ashley is from GRF and she's starting her third year in my garden. Ashley arrived chopped back so she would fit in GRF's small mailing box, which didn't please me. But Ashley wanted to bloom and grow, so she spent a few months in a pot on my patio. She was blooming a couple of weeks after she arrived. Then I transplanted her and she has continued to do well--if you like really small rose plants that produce giant (7 inch), very long lasting blooms. It's fine with me because I had to squeeze that rose into a small space. But she is by far the smallest rose I grow, not even 2 feet tall. It takes some getting used to. She's grafted and I can't detect a scent. Diane Light change, so rose looks a slightly different color. But in actuality, Ashley's color is totally a consistent pink.

Reply to: @windowsill_gardener you’ll probably need to be a mid tier or higher member to get access to those Japanese and Secret Garden roses this year. There was a live recently with some interesting roses mentioned like Paul Ricard, Sabrina, and the Kordes Freelander series. I think the Japanese roses are actually grafted. I do follow the group chat a bit and it seems like the whole operation is much better organized, better staffed, and delivering better quality product. I’m sure there are people that will scoff and never purchase again from GRF (and I understand their frustrations) and some of the marketing tactics can go overboard but I’m glad they’re turning things around. At the end of the day having improving rose growers is better for the whole rose growing community.

Reply to: I’m glad to see that their bare roots are $35. That’s fair, sensible and reasonable pricing in our day. Nothing outlandish like another company whom I shall not name here, who thinks gardeners are foolish people who don’t stop and think before making a purchase as to whether or not something is worth the asking price. I hope to order about 20 roses from A&A this fall. I’m afraid it’s going to be difficult to decide which 20!

Reply to: A week ago I ordered some lotus mixed seeds from Etsy. Since my kitchen only has Amaryllis now there is room for one more plant , hence I’m trying Lotus. I saw Lotus growing on instagram, but highly priced. Etsy seeds were only $11-so on with the experiment. Directions say may sprout in 1-2 weeks, but I have sprouts in 3 days under grow lights! After all seeds sprout, add little soil. Fun! ETSY SEEDS My Lotus Seeds, soaking first Beside my Amaryllis A sprout already!

Reply to: Kitty - Yes, we got 52 mm (2 inches)...way more than we usually get in the entire month of Sept. (30 mm/1.18 inches). Thankfully, we're done with rain for awhile. The farmers weren't happy with this rain during harvest time. I had my first raspberry today (planted this spring)!! It was delicious!! I'm glad your strawberries are forming again. :) :) After this rain and with some sun, my strawberries will be all turning red in a few days!! Yes, you've given yourself a lot of work with all of these new roses. Same here...so much replanting and waiting for roses to grow...next year I'm just getting around 10 new roses. And then maybe just 1 or 2 every year thereafter. You could probably put some cardboard in amongst your layers...the worms love that. Oh, that Anastasia!!! lol You can't really blame her...it's all so tasty! :) :) You get SO much rain...I would hate that...pouring rain ruins so many blooms. Reply to: Rouge, John Cabot is so elegant and perfectly grown. I love it. What state do you garden in? Ashley, lovely bouquet and you are so lucky to have daisies by the ditch. My Shastas last merely a week or so in our heat, but they're not blooming yet. Did you sow your poppies really early so they get plenty of cold? You could try Shirley poppies, which are very similar to the breadseed poppies. Kitty, so many beautiful blooms for you. I think my favs, which were difficult to choose, are Munstead, Emily B, and Yolanda. But all your roses are lovely. You know my first poppy, which I grew at my previous home, was Angel's Choir, the Shirley Poppy. I see you are growing them, too. They are a lovely mix. Kitty, I grow snaps from standard seeds, nothing extra winter hardy. I recommend Swallowtail Gardens Seeds or Hazzards for their snaps seeds. Diane

Reply to: Carol, when I was in the hospital for four days in November 2001 with a burst appendix, my Pickering order arrived. DH put the box in the garage. When I got home, I managed to bust them all out and plunk them in buckets of water in the shade. But I was in really rough shape, and off work for two weeks. So they sat in those buckets of water for three weeks total before I potted them up, and they all did great! Since then, I've soaked many bare roots well beyond the recommended 24-48 hours with great success. The key is shade and cool/cold.

Reply to: Friends, I took all my 16 roses inside kitchen now. My last 4 largest potted roses (from kitchen) were on porch last night & 3 of their new canes turned slightly red not liking the cold.-it was 32F afterall…. slight snow/ rain this morning. (Slight red canes are ok, but too cold zi guess for these young roses. Porch was warmer-partly enclosed, but these new roses are not dormant or ready for any cold. They are loving it in my ”crowded plant kitchen!-OVERFLOWING!!!!!!!!!! It’s only for 2-3 days, then sun shines and we will have 51-68 during days. Outside they go!!!!!!! Monday will certainly be warm! Kristine, Our new Etsy roses are soooo young…. Some little pampering is good! I think keeping Eisvogel dry and remove all leaves effected will keep BS from continuing. My Eisvogel will stay inside until I am sure my weather is dry & sunny. I’m not sure I like being a tie queen of in-out roses,Lol! Yikes! Be glad when I am done! Your dahlias sound wonderful! I am glad they are growing well! Love your varieties! ! Honeymoon is so honey colored-Yummy! And your purple dahlia gorgeous pastels! I was standing behind my finished quilt, holding the corners up over my head as high as I could to display all the detail. Because of what you have written I'm on a waiting list for Prairie Sunrise. I've been dog tired , sleeping in late the last few really cold weeks. Soon I hope I can be up again with the sun, it's a beautiful part of the day . So much more housework gets done when it gets started early. You can definitely direct sow poppies when it snows, before or after. Same with orlaya and hollyhocks. I grow the annual kind. Some are biennial. and a few perennial. The seller should mention this in her description. You could try snapdragons, too. You can direct sow Campanula rotundifolia, which grows down to about zone 2. That is the Scottish harebell, not the invasive one you were tearing out, though Camp rot spreads and reseeds, so you may not like that. I love that campanula you removed. Darn. Reply to: Finally came home after going to Lowes a 2nd time. Anastasia wanted to go there after groomers so I had to take her. Several children petted her… so she enjoyed the trip & they gave her a doggie treat! I bought some petunias for pots… he he. After coming home I spent another few hours walking Anastasia in the gardens & picking off wilted roses. After a couple weeks iof their biggest blooms the 80F weather this week is wilting tons of blooms…. I have a lg trash bag just full of oetals. Weird though…. It was hot I think wilting edges of most blooms on every other bush… then it rains so much the blooms are soggy & many blooms just wouldn’t open…..on all types of my roses…. never happened before…. I gave up & picked off many slightly crusted on outside, unopen blooms that look like they will not open & were withering. Interesting, though 2nd year Amazing Grace Rose has the BIGGEST GIANT BUDS… they were crusted slightly too, but I picked off outter crusted petals… if they open they will be the grandest blooms ever!!!! There are still tons blooming. There are new blooms daily. It was time to dead head anyway. Feiy Lo & Carol, I think I’d have to have 300-500 roses to run out of lawn, and that would ”put me asunder!” Anastasia likes lawn to run around in anyway! And gives gardener something to do, also, Lol! I’m so tired of olanting…. I have 6 roses to plant next Tuesday & my new Lowes’ plants, then I’m taking a break! My Clematis is blooming lilac-pink seems to grow well now. You have many clematis! UPDATE on a few of my flowers: My iris are doing well…. growing in my Japanese part-shade garden. One iris has a blue bud-surprised it will be blooming. Magpie, My Pearly white yarrow seeds did well w/ a pot oacked w/ seedlings growing outside….I may transplant to other beds when it cools outside. Is your yarrow still blooming? My Apple Blossom yarrow faded now to white, but still blooming. I have a few Lupine-now about 5 only! Ha, ha…. not sure if they will ever make it to bloom…. they are 4 inches. But my Bleeding Heart seeds did well-I have 3 seedlings tgat are 6 inches-very hsrdy looking & I olanted a Bleeding Heart tuber which has 5 -6 inch plant growing! poppies have buds! Reply to: Diane is right. Direct seeding for poppies is the way to go! Here, my purple poppies do not work as well as Alaska, but the California poppies look great. My Flax might have petered out too here. This is just my property. A friend 4 miles away with more elevation, rain, and shade grows beautiful poppies by direct seeding. Maybe flax would work for her too.

Gorgeous irises, Magpie and Kitty. I love the ones I have, but haven't added any new ones in years. My local seed and feed store always has a neighbor iris exchange, but I miss it every year. They go fast because they're priced at only 50 cents to 3.50 so it's a great and cheap way to try new ones. Kristine, oh, brother! that's such a good laugh on me - Serbia/Siberia. I'm liking everything I hear about the Reminiscent roses. What a dear story about your mom and her irises, and horses, no less! Is that someplace you see very often? It was my mother who instilled a love of gardening in me, too. Even though we never had money to spare, she somehow managed to buy a few pansy starts for me to set out and take care of. Reply to: Sheila, It's funny, I thought everyone was much younger than me - 3 more years and I'll be 70. It doesn't seem that old until I come in from snow shoveling. Amara sat down on the porch and refused to get her princess feet snowy until I cleared a shallow path through the yard. Haven't we got this servant stuff turned around ? The butterfly photo is from the internet, I run across exceptional shots while I'm out in the computer garden researching. Diane, to further celebrate I just now ordered Versigny and Heaven on Earth from Roses Unlimited. It's the closest I can get to Augusta- no Palatine's for this stick in the mud.
