Reply to: On our walk yesterday, we took a hidden side path off the main trail down into the ravine. On the return, after stopping to listen to the small dark stream that runs through at the very foot of the forested slope, my older grandson remarked on feeling how special it is… to actually be in the woods (as opposed to on a gravelled trail). As we walked silently through trees, on the path carpeted with wet brown leaves and grey stones, he noted he could feel connected directly with the Earth…underneath his feet. ❤️ This morning I remembered this poem, which is a personal favorite. … Coming home the other day, my neighbour saw the fox and took this picture by the side of the road. It doesn’t do his beauty justice. He is actually much more beautiful than this.

Reply to: No Easter plans here either. My sister-in-law fell and broke her hip 2 weeks ago and is in rehab. We usually spend holidays down here with her and her husband. We will be visiting her. I made a restaurant reservation just for OH and me, just in case we want to go out....

Reply to: Looks like it might have been manufactured by Northern Furniture, or R-way (link), which is the same company (name change in 1949). You'd have to go a long way to find something made nearly as well today. Neo-classical isn't my style, either, but I wouldn't call it ugly. If you break up the set into two (or three) different rooms, it won't feel so overwhelming. I wouldn't dream of painting it, especially not before confirming the manufacturer, designer (if possible), and rarity. (I don't think it's especially rare, but you can't know till you do the research.)

Reply to: I actually love that bedroom l i a they brought the ceiling all one color with the walls and enhanced it with that light fixture in the bed matches the ceiling so it's back down to earth and they have the nightstands of different color of course than the bed which I would prefer them the same color but it does match that chair in Ottoman and then they brought the outside and with the green pillow and the beige rugged kind of match the deck but I would close my French doors you don't want a mouse running in there

Reply to: Chloebud, I usually have those battery power fairy lights and shiny plastic ornament in big glass urns on my mantel. I raid them to use in my students haunted house sculptures last week. I have changed the color scheme occasionally but those metallics and pearly ones bounce the light the best. They also look good in grandma's punch bowl for a center piece.

Reply to: @jayapple, that’s an excellent idea about bringing the rug back for winter. I do love a nice rug underfoot to be cosy. Right now, it is doing duty in the upstairs office. We were very fortunate to avoid Helene, but OH MY, so many in upper East TN and NC have been devastated, so very sad. We were just up on the Virginia Creeper trail on our bikes, and it is forever changed after that storm. We have friends in Asheville and it is sad, BUT, there is a rallying spirit among mountain folks and it will be put back together with love and hard work.

Reply to: Well three hours of sleep doesn’t work for me not to mention my anxiety kicks in in high gear. I think if I just couldn’t sleep it would probably be all right. I’ve been doing some reading about it including a government research online site. I’ve ordered a book on CBT I cognitive behavioural therapy insomnia. However I feel like this is in a large part physiological. Turns out as we age we produce less melatonin. According to this research study, melatonin has a key role to play in the sympathetic nervous system. It’s a hormone produced by the pituitary gland.
