Named after a local crustacean, the Periwinkle Project design by Beaumont Concepts promotes harmony with the natural coastal surrounds and addresses sustainability from construction to consumption of resources over the life cycle of the home. The compact, cost effective home is successful in responding to constraints of the site. The home sits comfortably within the site and actively benefits from it with passive solar principals and energy efficiency and environmentally conscious provision of thermal mass.

This house was built as a testing ground for refining assembly, trying new details, and simplifying mechanical tweaks. It was designed as a stock plan, taking into account the wedge-shaped lot common to new suburbs. A large, south-facing great room brings bright south light into the home, uncommon in a neighborhood where the same design is reused over and over regardless of orientation. The exterior styling references the classic suburban architecture of the 20th century, while keeping the finishes maintenance-free. This 1914 family farmhouse was passed down from the original owners to their grandson and his young family. The original goal was to restore the old home to its former glory. However, when we started planning the remodel, we discovered the foundation needed to be replaced, the roof framing didn’t meet code, all the electrical, plumbing and mechanical would have to be removed, siding replaced, and much more. We quickly realized that instead of restoring the home, it would be more cost effective to deconstruct the home, recycle the materials, and build a replica of the old house using as much of the salvaged materials as we could. The design of the new construction is greatly influenced by the old home with traditional craftsman design interiors. We worked with a deconstruction specialist to salvage the old-growth timber and reused or re-purposed many of the original materials. We moved the house back on the property, connecting it to the existing garage, and lowered the elevation of the home which made it more accessible to the existing grades. The new home includes 5-panel doors, columned archways, tall baseboards, reused wood for architectural highlights in the kitchen, a food-preservation room, exercise room, playful wallpaper in the guest bath and fun era-specific fixtures throughout.

Nestled in the woods, overlooking a small stream, this play structure takes advantage of the surrounding views and nature. Built for the entire family’s outdoor enjoyment, the tree house comprises two 8′-0″ x 8′-0″ platforms that create two floors. The lower floor is accessed by a ramp and the upper floor by a wooden ladder. The structure is screened with bamboo shoots, placed in close proximity to one another on the front [driveway side] and spaced wider and wider apart as they wrap around the sides to the back [best view]. The bamboo skin was harvested on site for a sustainable and cost effective material solution.

Added much needed storage with all the drawers in the new vanity & custom window bench. Removed the shower curb for easier access, added dual shower heads and more space. Rigid-core vinyl plank flooring was a cost effective improvement that added warmth to the overall design.

Request Cabinet Quote from Showcase KitchensThe focal point of this Neo-Classical kitchen was designed to be the custom hood area. It’s the first thing you see when walking down the main hallway. The hand chiseled, custom stone hood was originally designed to be made out of wood. We decided on using stone, which was made in Italy, for a more dramatic approach and in the end was more cost effective. This spacious kitchen was designed to be highly functional for entertaining. The double islands, each having their own sink, allow for plenty of room and separate stations for prepping, organizing and cleaning. The kitchen also features a butler’s pantry which includes a custom farmhouse marble sink and a 30” Thermador double electric wall oven. Another area that is inviting and operates as a gathering location, is the bar. Ernesto and his team chose a pyramid style door panel and curved legs at the end of the bar. These were inspired from some old furniture pieces the team had come across. Unique, subtle scroll work added to the legs was done by a local artist. Unique Features The Bentwood custom cabinets, from the kitchen to the laundry room, were truly unique as well. Ernesto and his team worked closely with the engineers and finishers, even traveling to Dallas, to make sure the colors and door details were perfect. A chevron oak flooring finished this kitchen off nicely adding detail and depth to the overall look. The Thermador built in refrigerator and freezer were placed in an optimal location that is easily accessible. The cooking area consists of a 48” Thermador unit with a Sharp microwave drawer. Even in the laundry room, no detail was overlooked. With plenty of space and storage, it features pull-down laundry hangers, large laundry bins, and a folding station.
