Mid-Century Remodel on Tabor Hill This sensitively sited house was designed by Robert Coolidge, a renowned architect and grandson of President Calvin Coolidge. The house features a symmetrical gable roof and beautiful floor to ceiling glass facing due south, smartly oriented for passive solar heating. Situated on a steep lot, the house is primarily a single story that steps down to a family room. This lower level opens to a New England exterior. Our goals for this project were to maintain the integrity of the original design while creating more modern spaces. Our design team worked to envision what Coolidge himself might have designed if he'd had access to modern materials and fixtures. With the aim of creating a signature space that ties together the living, dining, and kitchen areas, we designed a variation on the 1950's "floating kitchen." In this inviting assembly, the kitchen is located away from exterior walls, which allows views from the floor-to-ceiling glass to remain uninterrupted by cabinetry. We updated rooms throughout the house; installing modern features that pay homage to the fine, sleek lines of the original design. Finally, we opened the family room to a terrace featuring a fire pit. Since a hallmark of our design is the diminishment of the hard line between interior and exterior, we were especially pleased for the opportunity to update this classic work.

Home bars have become a must have in most kitchen renovations. Creating elegant spaces for homeowners to showcase and prepare beverages is our pleasure. KabCo seamlessly incorporated a dry bar using custom Homecrest Cabinetry in Maple Alpine.

At the homeowners request, the dishwasher was raised so the bottom rack was higher and easier to access. A pass through into the family room allows the kitchen to feel more open and more incorporated. The corner range top works well for these home cooks and the hood was updated. This cabinet column could be used also be used as a small pantry. It features pocket doors to store a coffee station and small microwave, mugs and coffee accessories. This cabinetry features a Shaker style door with "eagle rock" stain on maple; the countertop is honed, absolute black granite. The "ash gray" cabinet pulls are from Top Knobs. The backsplash is a white 2 x 8.5 inch field tile by Market Collection.

This sleek bathroom creates a serene and bright feeling by keeping things simple. The Wetstyle floating vanity is paired with matching wall cabinet and medicine for a simple unified focal point. Simple white subway tiles and trim are paired with Carrara marble mosaic floors for a bright timeless look.

Bringing light and more functionality to a 20 year old kitchen was the goal for this extensive remodel. The homeowner worked with Kitchen Designer, Amanda Ortendahl of our North Attleboro location to update what was a dark wood G-shaped kitchen they had installed when they built the home 20 years earlier. The new design incorporates a large working island with ample seating for entertaining, homework and casual meals. The cabinets incorporate substantial crown molding and soar all the way to the ceiling adding to the feeling of height and spaciousness. The cabinets are all by Fieldstone Cabinetry. The perimeter cabinets are a painted finish in the color White. The island, hood and wine bar are Rattan Stain on walnut wood. The countertop and backsplash are Brunello Element Quartz. This transitional style laundry/mudroom features medium brown stained maple cabinets, a white Whirlpool washer and dryer set with storage drawers, a laundry sink cabinet with a granite top that features ivory, taupe, brown, gold, and black. There is a Moen stainless steel rectangular laundry sink, a Delta polished chrome pull down laundry faucet, and a counter for folding clothes. There is a pull out drawer in a base cabinet for storing laundry, roll outs in an upper cabinet and a lower storage cabinet to store vacuums, etc. We installed white and taupe marble look marble look porcelain tile flooring and chose a cheery shade of yellow for the walls. The trim, clothes closet double doors, and a pocket door to the hallway are painted white.
