Hammer & Hand built this custom listening room for a Portland audiophile. To isolate the room from the rest of the home and improve the listening experience the space includes a self-contained minisplit heat pump and a dedicated cryogenically-treated electricity system. Tibetan bowls allow the client to tune the room. Noted acoustic engineer Art Noxon positioned gray bass traps along the walls of the room so bass frequencies penetrate the walls instead of bouncing around the room. The team removed a bathroom to increase the size of the space to 11 x 17. Double sound attenuating doors lock sound into the room and keep the rest of the home quiet. A small storage room adjoining the listening room includes a custom built bookshelf for holding records, CDs, and other items.

Some may have passed by this diamond in the rough, but my clients had a true gut feeling that an addition and total renovation would turn heads after completion, and boy were they right!
We literally flipped the garage location, re-routed circulation and increased habitable areas to create great curb appeal, an open concept and easy flow throughout the home. A gut renovation to the interior includes a new spacious kitchen, dining and living rooms, a gas fireplace, two additional bedrooms, a bonus room, as well as a new powder room, primary bathroom and second floor laundry. New windows and apertures throughout increase natural light indoors — tenfold — creating a warm and welcoming feeling. The exterior transformation makes it hard to even identify the original home.
This total modification is a testament to never judge a book by its cover.

In an ever increasingly modern world, nature becomes more and more of a novelty. The Raw Forest door pulls the forest into that world with some of the most captivating angles of a tree. Timbers cross cut into square sections reveal the wet and dry seasons of nature through the tree rings- a literal biography of the tallest life on earth. The dramatic and well played complimentary squares that make up the door are comprised of raw mild steel and simple frosted acrylic. The ‘final touch”, the “cherry on top”, a cherry red real mule deer antler shed. Practical as a door pull, perfect accent for the tall trees.
Note: Hand Made to order, unique and one of a kind. Customizable to any size. Call 1-800-891-8312 for a quote on a custom size.

This kitchen was redesigned to include a large, multi-level island that replaced the dining table. With seating for five, the new island includes plenty of room for dining, storage and food prep. New maple cabinets with cashmere stain are topped with flint black quartz. Solid glass tile is mixed with a glass and stone mix mosaic throughout the kitchen's backsplash. Angled power strips and switchs are concealed beneath upper cabinets giving the backsplash a clean look. Careful discussions about how the homeowners use the space resulted in amenities like a pull-out spice rack, pull-out shelves in lower cabinets, concealed waste/recycling containers, and USB outlets in the drop zone/beverage center. Under cabinet lighting brightens the area while increasing visibility.

For this project, we drastically increased the square footage of this urban Chicago Style bungalow. With a complete 1st floor layout change including an open stairwell and open floor plan, and the expansion of the attic into a full second story addition (adding 3 bedrooms and two full baths to the home), this home became more spacious and livable. We installed a brand new kitchen with modern finishes with a light grey shaker island, and custom vanities cast in tile to give this home a sleek finish. By redigging the basement to heighten the ceilings, and upgrading it into a family area/rec room complete with another bedroom and a bathroom, the basement transformed from a storage unit to an inviting space in the home.

This customer needed to increase the curb appeal of his 1973 built home in Atlanta, GA. With the use of products such as Trex and James Hardie - Hardieplank Lap Siding, our experienced crews brought to life the upgrade he envisioned. From a deck resurface to replacing old vinyl siding, take a look at the beautiful transformation from before to after. Some of the products used include: Trex Enhance Decking products, Sherwin Williams paint and stain, and James Hardie Hardieplank Lap Siding in Select Cedarmill.

Infill Urban Homes often sacrifice yard space to increase the size of the house footprint and this property was no exception.
A complete redesign of the rear deck included a pergola and screens for privacy and both a dining an cooking area while not limiting access to the basement walkout that was updated with a modern sauna with a new greenroof to soften the rear yard.
A small seating rea and new privacy trees make up the balance of this rear yard while still leaving enough room for a small storage shed.

For this full kitchen remodel, we filled in one doorway. Doing so then allowed for continuous countertop space between the range and sink and an increase in storage. The dishwasher moved and is now paneled. Open shelving with brackets to display art work/dishes was incorporated. Windows were replaced and exterior walls were spray foamed in order to better the energy efficiency of the house. A Kohler Strive faucet and Vault sink were installed along with Alder cabinetry, Oak natural finish flooring, and gorgeous Atlas Granite countertops. Designed by Amy Hinck. This basement bathroom in Hebron KY. was made a little more luxurious when we moved the interior wall to increase the overall size of the shower. Some other features include white subway tile, honeycomb shower pan, 12x24 ceramic tile floor, as well as a beautiful modern vanity cabinet paired with an elegant quartz top.

Relocating to Portland, Oregon from California, this young family immediately hired Amy to redesign their newly purchased home to better fit their needs. The project included updating the kitchen, hall bath, and adding an en suite to their master bedroom. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dining allowed for additional counter space and storage along with improved traffic flow and increased natural light to the heart of the home. This galley style kitchen is focused on efficiency and functionality through custom cabinets with a pantry boasting drawer storage topped with quartz slab for durability, pull-out storage accessories throughout, deep drawers, and a quartz topped coffee bar/ buffet facing the dining area. The master bath and hall bath were born out of a single bath and a closet. While modest in size, the bathrooms are filled with functionality and colorful design elements. Durable hex shaped porcelain tiles compliment the blue vanities topped with white quartz countertops. The shower and tub are both tiled in handmade ceramic tiles, bringing much needed texture and movement of light to the space. The hall bath is outfitted with a toe-kick pull-out step for the family’s youngest member!

The origin of these classic window coverings dates back to the 19th century, when they were actually used in the harsh environment of tropical plantations to manage light and heat.
Shutters come in a wide variety of materials, colors and styles. They can increase energy efficiency, are easy to clean, and help the light control, privacy and limit sun damage. And, due to new real estate trends, home appraisers are likely to include the value of shutters when evaluating a home - making shutters a real return on investment for homeowners.

This was a gut remodel of a 1950’s 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1200-square-foot home. The main house was composed of two bedrooms with one bathroom, and a separate studio unit with a full bathroom was located in the backyard. The new owners, a family of 4, wanted to remove the studio unit and increase the square footage of the main house to include a new master suite, family room, and powder room while leaving enough space for the possible addition of a pool in the backyard down the road. We also expanded the kitchen and remodeled the kids’ shared bathroom.
White Sands advised during the architectural stage of the project to perfect the layout and ensure enough space was carved out for the new kitchen, family room, and master bedroom. We designed a modified galley kitchen with a large eat-in island in the center. Custom cabinetry was key in making the layout work. To provide ample storage, we created a European-style larder pantry, which is flanked by full-height glass hutches and appliance garages to keep countertop gadgets concealed. The family room is anchored by a new fireplace, complete with custom built-ins flanking each side. The client’s goal for the overall aesthetic is very simple, classic coastal cottage. They wanted cutesy charm. They did not want anything fussy or fancy, requesting selections to be pared down and approachable. All tile and counter finishes selected were in timeless shapes and color palettes. We brought in color and personality with the accessories- cabinet hardware, mirrors, wallcoverings, and styling accessories.

Gary Duff Designs was called on to this Long Island home to maximize and transform a small space. Building on the existing features, including a pool and patio, the team added a new outdoor kitchen to increase the functionality and livability. In order to increase privacy, a slat wall was built from colored PVC fence material. This installation provides a new sense of seclusion during winter months, when thinning plants can’t provide the same level of protection. An interesting Techo Bloc Antika apron detail was also used to connect the driveway with the front walkway, welcoming visitors all the way from the street to the first step inside.
