Family room:
Cabinet doors matched to kitchen.
Design By: Chris Chumbley & assoc.

This home required an inventive solution to enhance and better utilize the existing space. The current kitchen was small, dimly lit, and lacked sufficient counter space and the tiny breakfast bar felt disconnected from the work area. Homeowners wanted an updated, brighter, more open space that increased the functionality of their current square footage. The new kitchen’s open concept creates a unified feeling throughout the main floor. The design offers plenty of storage and cooking space, as well as an inviting seating area that comfortably accommodates family and guests. This space has truly become the gathering space they envisioned.

Looking for a nice clean crown molding, but what something different? These homeowners did just that with a simple clean flat molding applied to the wall and ceiling to create this look.

Replacing the back door to the mud room with a paneled glass door increased the natural light that flows into the new kitchen.

South Baton Rouge Kitchen Remodel:
If the kitchen space was a blank slate - how could it be designed to function best for the owners? Asking this question at the beginning and collaboration with the owner and designer that desired a beautiful end product was what contributed to the success of this project. We began with a center island cooktop that "cramped" the room for preparing meals and a relatively small refrigerator space. For an owner that loves to cook and entertain, we needed to increase the available space for cooking and food storage. In the end, we relocated the gas range to the side wall along with increasing the island size to allow room for meal preparation along with bar style seating for loved ones to "watch and test taste" while keeping good conversation close by the cook in action. We also were able to accommodate the owner's desire to increase the refrigerator/ freezer space without losing cabinet storage. Installing floor to ceiling cabinetry with accessory lighting gives this space the sense that good design and quality craftsmanship are necessary ingredients for another successful project by Spencer's Contracting.

A perfect balance of modern functionality and timeless elegance has been achieved in the kitchen. The optimized layout, featuring increased storage capacity and more accessible shelves, ensures efficient use of space. Sleek stainless steel appliances and quartz countertops exude contemporary sophistication, while the classic white cabinetry adds a touch of timeless charm.

For this full kitchen remodel, we filled in one doorway. Doing so then allowed for continuous countertop space between the range and sink and an increase in storage. The dishwasher moved and is now paneled. Open shelving with brackets to display art work/dishes was incorporated. Windows were replaced and exterior walls were spray foamed in order to better the energy efficiency of the house. A Kohler Strive faucet and Vault sink were installed along with Alder cabinetry, Oak natural finish flooring, and gorgeous Atlas Granite countertops. Designed by Amy Hinck. This was a complete gut and remodel. There was a divider wall removed, increase in the island size and changed the direction it was running in the space.
This was an older some so we had challenges with uneven and inconsistent wall heights. Wanting to use full height cabinets made this a challenge, but having the crown painted the same color as the cabinets and a taller band board, help hide this issue.
A gray glazed island with a single chandelier adds some contrast from the perimeter cabinets.
The cabinet hardware is a darker pewter finish.
I used a multi color hand molded brick tile from Seneca Tile, for the back splash. No picture frame over the 48" Thermador range. Only the texture of the tile.

Replacing the window over the sink increased the light streaming into the kitchen and gives a great view into their backyard.

An addition (done at wall in left of photo) increases size of kitchen to accommodate new island. Island provides second sink and dishwasher for help with cooking for large groups. Butcher block and stainless steel counters provide durability.
