The existing 90 square foot galley kitchen was small and narrow, with limited storage and counterspace. By utilizing the hallway and master closet opposite, we expanded the kitchen across the hall, creating a 5’-6”x 2’-0”x 7’-0” niche for the Subzero refrigerator and under counter wine storage unit. The existing kitchen doorway was widened to unify the two spaces. Separating the tall elements from the original galley, the new design was able to provide uninterrupted counterspace and extra storage. Because of its proximity to the living area, the niche is also able to serve a dual role as an easily accessible bar with glass storage above when the client is entertaining. Modern, high-gloss cabinetry was extended to the ceiling, replacing the existing traditional millwork and capitalizing on previously unused space. An existing breakfast nook with a view of the East River, which had been one of the client’s favorite features, was awkwardly placed and provided for tight and uncomfortable seating. We rebuilt the banquettes, pushing them back for easier access and incorporating hidden storage compartments into the seats.

Imagine a modern Lakewood home tailored for two veterans, blending accessibility with sleek design on a tricky lot. Jazz House turns a triangular site into a sunny haven, supporting mobility needs while celebrating life through light and space. The couple—a doctor and jazz musician—needed a home for limited mobility, with low thresholds and elevator prep. Close to transit for convenience, the design uses the lot's shape to invite winter sun and ease summer heat. Setbacks on the odd lot could have limited options, but an elongated build maximizes space and light. For injuries, accessible features create smooth movement, turning obstacles into a comfortable, future-proof setup. The concept focuses on clean, light-filled rooms with modern materials for a fresh feel. A private jazz studio adds personal touch, while the shape enhances views and flow. Modern methods ensure strength and style, built to handle Colorado's demands with efficiency in mind. Spacious with four bedrooms and three baths, big windows flood it with light. Private and shared areas, including the studio, make it versatile for work, music, and relaxation. Since 2015, Jazz House has been a supportive retreat that adapts to life. These South Shore of Boston homeowners desired a larger kitchen as their existing had limited space to host family events and entertain guests – they turned to Renovisions to help transform their small, outdated kitchen with separate walk-in pantry into a beautiful, open and spacious inspirational room. Choosing the right cabinetry for the room and how to meet the needs of the client was critical to the overall success of this design. A traditional style was the framework of the home and the flat paneled doors on the white painted cabinetry support this aspect. Going vertical as possible with cabinets is a trend here to stay; keeping with that idea, we recommended the graceful tall pantry cabinet that flanks one side of the kitchen. This not only lends to an eye-appealing furniture-look, but adds significant storage space, allowing the cabinets to store items they may not use on a regular basis. In this case, the clients are amazed with the amount of storage they’ve gained and one that provides easy access to all interior items. Every inch of space was key to create this optimally functional kitchen. Must-haves such as tray dividers above the refrigerator are handy and the double pull-out trash/recycling bins on the right side of the sink were a simple and clean way to gain floor space and conceal unsightly trash. The focal point of this kitchen is the expansive, soft-grey colored contrasting island with larger, deeper drawers for pots, pans and platters. The client was excited to switch to an induction chef-series range that featured a divided oven that can accommodate two different temperatures. Fit and finish is important in any renovation and this certainly holds true in this kitchen project to personalize their space. The custom recessed panel columns with wainscot details add an architectural element that ties into the kitchen cabinet design and Carrera-look quartz countertops which provide a stunning classical look that ties nicely with the overall traditional style. This custom built beach house posed many challenged including the specific design criteria, space requirements, and limited wall space as 75% of the walls are glass. The AV closet was built into the stair spandrel, space that would have otherwise been unused. Certain walls were thickened allowing recessed TVs to sit perfectly flush with the wall. The automated buttons throughout the house control functions such as Welcome, Goodnight, & Party Mode. The home automation was designed for anyone to be able to walk into the house and use the system.

She also suffers from a lung disease that sometimes leaves her less mobile and able to head out to pursue this passion. A garden to take pictures in, even when you're not up to heading further out into the world. That was the main goal of this garden. With limited means and the use of affordable materials we created a wheel chair friendly garden that offers ample space for both human and wild life.

Goals While their home provided them with enough square footage, the original layout caused for many rooms to be underutilized. The closed off kitchen and dining room were disconnected from the other common spaces of the home causing problems with circulation and limited sight-lines. A tucked-away powder room was also inaccessible from the entryway and main living spaces in the house. Our Design Solution We sought out to improve the functionality of this home by opening up walls, relocating rooms, and connecting the entryway to the mudroom. By moving the kitchen into the formerly over-sized family room, it was able to really become the heart of the home with access from all of the other rooms in the house. Meanwhile, the adjacent family room was made into a cozy, comfortable space with updated fireplace and new cathedral style ceiling with skylights. The powder room was relocated to be off of the entry, making it more accessible for guests. A transitional style with rustic accents was used throughout the remodel for a cohesive first floor design. White and black cabinets were complimented with brass hardware and custom wood features, including a hood top and accent wall over the fireplace. Between each room, walls were thickened and archway were put in place, providing the home with even more character.

Interactive Construction’s second Passive House shows that it is possible to achieve this high level of energy efficiency in even the tightest of lots. This build challenged the common assumption that you need a lot of south facing windows to achieve the Passive House certification. The relatively small solar gains from the limited southern exposure was made up for with an extremely tight air-barrier, a top of the line HRV, and higher R-values of insulation. To achieve the best indoor air quality, low-VOC products were used in the finishes. Solid Maple flooring was used throughout the upper levels to create a beautiful look without the chemicals found in engineered flooring. Aging-in-place was key to the design, with a central elevator and accessible door sizes and shower access. Smart design can make homes for versatile over their lifespan which reduces the need for costly renovations in the future. Both the indoor and outdoor areas blend to create tranquil and calm-inspiring spaces. What the homeowners had to say: Each area works well for its purpose. We love the stairs and the glass wall that separates the stairs from the living area. We love our windows, doors and skylights which give us so much light.

This couple had a very old bathroom that did not accommodate their accessibility needs. To help them we had to design it to enlarge it with very limited space to work with. It could not be made larger by width, the only option was to go longer, into the mechanical room. It required the moving a water heater including the plumbing and electrical in the mechanical room. The removal of the concrete floor to make a roll in shower with the added benefit of a large comfortable bench and open shower convenience. For safety large handrails were added with a rain shower head and handheld shower option. Additionally, they needed a roll under vanity with storage unit on the side that was within easy reach for both. The overall effect was efficient, easy to clean and maintain, giving them the room they required for easy access and maneuverability.
