The family living in this shingled roofed home on the Peninsula loves color and pattern. At the heart of the two-story house, we created a library with high gloss lapis blue walls. The tête-à-tête provides an inviting place for the couple to read while their children play games at the antique card table. As a counterpoint, the open planned family, dining room, and kitchen have white walls. We selected a deep aubergine for the kitchen cabinetry. In the tranquil master suite, we layered celadon and sky blue while the daughters' room features pink, purple, and citrine.

Part mirage, part miracle - this masterful modern evocation is in the best Louisiana vernacular tradition. It was conceived by architect Kevin Gossen (Gossen Architects Lafayette, Louisiana) for an unusual piece of property in Metairie whose cheated landscape gives the illusion of open country spaces. He has created a “cottage” that already looks as if it might be a survivor from a couple of centuries ago. Using reclaimed building materials, magnificent beams, beautiful old flooring with classically scaled rooms, it was a perfect project for Decorations Lucullus. Both architect and interior designers admit the real magic rested with the client whose highly developed aesthetic and extensive experience in design gave the process amazing vitality. Conceived as a “résidence secondaire” to be near grandchildren, she wanted something more snug than her large primary house out of town but without sacrificing the qualities of charm or elegance. While the project is still evolving, she can’t repress a smile when some passer-by stops to chat over the rose-heavy iron fence, perhaps peering into the gracious side hall, asking how this old house has managed to survive all the changes in the neighborhood. Our Seattle studio gave this dated family home a fabulous facelift with bright interiors, stylish furnishings, and thoughtful decor. We kept all the original interior doors but gave them a beautiful coat of paint and fitted stylish matte black hardware to provide them with that extra elegance. Painting the millwork a creamy light grey color created a fun, unique contrast against the white walls. We opened up walls to create a spacious great room, perfect for this family who loves to entertain. We reimagined the existing pantry as a wet bar, currently a hugely popular spot in the home. To create a seamless indoor-outdoor living space, we used NanaWall doors off the kitchen and living room, allowing our clients to have an open atmosphere in their backyard oasis and covered front deck. Heaters were also added to the front porch ensuring they could enjoy it during all seasons. We used durable furnishings throughout the home to accommodate the growing needs of their two small kids and two dogs. Neutral finishes, warm wood tones, and pops of color achieve a light and airy look reminiscent of the coastal appeal of Puget Sound – only a couple of blocks away from this home. We ensured that we delivered a bold, timeless home to our clients, with every detail reflecting their beautiful personalities.

The dramatic lounge area is defined by a dropped ceiling with cove lighting, pendant lighting and down lights that light the art once the daylight fades. This is the martini-and-chat area before dinner or the cognac and after-dinner drink escape.

This beautiful tropical home built on Kauai's south shore takes a modern approach to tropical design. The teak columns are square, the eves are stained an ebony and the roofing is shaker. We wanted each space to feel open and the indoor-outdoor design to be carried throughout the home. Each bedroom opens up to the exterior lanai areas and both the master suite bathrooms open to private courtyards and outdoor showers. The main lanai is a mixture of teak and porcelain creating a modern and natural atmosphere. The infinity edge pool has a swim-up bar, aqua lounge area, and seamless spa.
