View from the front entry into the kitchen. The white door in the back ground, right of the dining table is the new entry location to the second bedroom (now an office) - originally the door to the second bedroom was further left on that wall. More wall space was gained by relocating the door to the bedroom. We also gained more space to expand the Owners' closet which is now behind that wall.

This outdated Mid Century ranch built in late 1950’s was in serious need of an update. Our clients wanted a fresh contemporary feel that was simple in design and reflected the original Mid Century feel of the home.
The new frosted Plexiglas railing allows the now open staircase and modern pendant to become part of the small dining area. White painted cabinetry with slab doors and minimal pulls add a lighter component and balance out the dark walnut cabinetry. The (3) built-in charging drawers, Legrand retractable outlets and a single door hood that opens with a light touch add a "cool" functional vibe to the space.,
Gray quartz countertops and a rectilinear white tile backsplash add serenity and tie in the stainless appliances giving the kitchen a modern feel.
A wood waterfall countertop detail on the back of the island adds interest to the space and is anchored by the unique handblown wave glass pendants in a soft grey color.
The new exposed support is both dramatic and functional in that it hides a support post in open bookcase cabinet.

Inspiration for a farmhouse wooden straight metal railing staircase remodel in San Francisco with painted risers

One of our favorite projects. This amazing remodeled kitchen is a showplace. If you are brave enough to choose a color it really pays off. Finished in a country green distressed look this kitchen is really eye catching. The vaulted ceiling and varied cabinets heights add to the charm. We clad the support post and worked it into the island to open the space up for this truly amazing kitchen. This space is not only stunning it is very functional. This project is in down town Huntington Beach, CA, but it could be anywhere in the country.

We demo'd the full kitchen, dining room, powder room, closet, back hall and front hall in this older colonial home. One supporting post later, this became a wide open space, sans the new mudroom and powder room at the side/garage entry. A new door allows for easy access to the backyard.

Large transitional u-shaped dark wood floor and brown floor kitchen photo in Minneapolis with gray cabinets, white backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island, raised-panel cabinets, a farmhouse sink, solid surface countertops, white countertops and ceramic backsplash

The client wanted to open up the front of the house, integrating the kitchen and the family room as one space. Two walls were removed and replaced with two support beams and a column, resulting in one spacious room.
In order to delineate a transition between the space, a two level kitchen island was built -- adding counter space and additional seating. The soapstone counter-top, farmhouse sink and faucet pair well with the craftsman style cabinets and 4x8 backsplash tile. The pendant lights that hang over the counter and the under-cabinet LED lights add a warm glow to the space. The 12x24 porcelain tile for the floor blends well with the warm oak flooring.

Inspiration for a mid-sized 1960s l-shaped medium tone wood floor open concept kitchen remodel in Los Angeles with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, white backsplash, subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops and an island

Thse clients came to me for a kitchen refresh. Keeping the existing floor plan but updating as much as possible. After explaining my thoughts, they chose to go with a much larger project. The wall to the garage wash pushed bach 12" to allow for the island to happen. This almost couldn't happen as there is a support post in the garage we had to keep. I designed the last pantry area as on 10" deep, allowing us to conceal that behind the cabinets. Then, we opend up the wall to the dining room to make the rooms one large space. The wall to the family room was also openend up, leaving the half wall to allow for the kitchen eating area. They wanted to incorporate a bar area, without it feeling like a "bar" The fabulous tall custom unit houses their wine collection and then half of the dining room buffet area holds glassware and other bar items. I helped the clients with all of the design choices. We all wanted to keep the space classic, war, functional and with mixed materials. I chose to use the same countertop material for the backsplash, to keep the space feeling as large as possible.

The homeowners desired an outdoor space that felt more rustic than their refined interior spaces, but still related architecturally to their house. Cement plaster support arbor columns provide enough of visual tie to the existing house exterior. Oversized wood beams and rafter members provide a unique outdoor atmosphere. Structural bolts and hardware were minimized for a cleaner appearance. Structural connections and supports were engineered to meet California's stringent earthquake standards.

The Hive
This remodel transforms three small, crowded rooms into an expansive, open kitchen connecting directly onto a new backyard deck. The coziness of a former breakfast nook is re-created with a built-in bench with discreet storage, and a pre-existing island is re-imagined with a new marble surface and complementary marble slab installed above the counters. The new modern kitchen, combines bamboo, white, and glass cabinet materials and integrates an original Wedgewood range stove providing a spacious, open environment.
Outside, the new deck design addresses a previous basement flooding problem and brings together the upper and lower floors with a floating “crow’s nest” balcony, maximizing available outdoor space for use by both couples. To avoid the need for a support post, the balcony is supported by steel beams cantilevered into the house itself. Its custom rail system is galvanized steel and stainless steel cable, leaving as much space open as possible, and a steel awning overhead protects the new door from potential rain damage. The deck itself, as well as its railings and trellis structure, are built in durable ipe, a smooth barefoot-friendly hardwood. Stairs and seating create a smooth transition from the elevated deck down into the yard, where the new owners installed flagstones and setup their own bee hives.
