The transformation this kitchen has undergone is astonishing. The homeowner made beautiful selections which resulted in my favorite kitchen yet. The home has been with this family since the 1800's and handed down from generation to generation. The homeowner's goal was to maintain the historic feel of the home but bring it into this century. I think we accomplished that but see for yourself!

We opened up this kitchen into the dining area which added more natural light. The family wanted to make sure the kitchen was handicap accessible for their son. We made sure that the aisle were wide enough for the wheelchair. The open shelf island was made specifically for the customer's son. This is his place that he can store his belonging with easy access. The customer fell in love with the Typhoon Bordeaux granite and we helped him select cabinets that would compliment the granite. Traditional kitchen fitted with Mouser Custom Cabinetry in the Tiffany door style, Crimson Cherry finish on the perimeter, and Maple in Maize paint w/ Bourbon glaze & Glacier finish on the island, accented with Enkeboll Acanthus posts and onlays. Countertops are Typhoon Bordeaux granite. Backsplash is Crema Marfil polished by Artistic Tile, with an accent above the range using Landmark Metalcoat appliques. Floor tile is Albero porcelain tile in the Suber color by Cancos. Appliances include a Wolf range, convection steam oven, built-in microwave, and warming drawer and a Sub-Zero built-in refrigerator w/ flush inset installation and refrigerator drawers. The apron-front sink is Kohler's Whitehaven sink in Cashmere, topped with the Artifacts pulldown faucet and an Insinkerator Hot/Cold Water Dispenser in the Antique model. Stools are Trevor by Arhaus. We opened up that wall overlooking the family room during this kitchen remodel and added window treatments everywhere. The walls are painted green to accentuate the homeowners favorite cherry wood cabinetry. The granite is Honed Typhoon Bordeaux. The tumbled travertine back splash has a Bordeaux colored glass border. Notice the wine and coffee bars. The wall color in the kitchen is Sherwin Williams Contented 6191 and the family is Sherwin Williams Coastal Plain 6192.

This comfortable kitchen accommodates multiple cooks and encourages family togetherness. Every inch counts in the main cooking zone, creating enough space for several well-organized work areas. The family zone has flexibility built in -- a rolling cart fits under the island gathering table when not in use, and an adjacent organizing center does double-duty as a buffet hutch with display cabinet. Luxury Vinyl Planks are a great option for water areas like bathrooms, basements, and kitchens. The technology is advancing so that the product looks and feels like natural products like wood and stone.

The client had partially remodeled the home a few years prior but said the kitchen did not have the right feel. In addition, its functionality was stunted by the layout. The two large ovens were shoved in a corner and inhibited the use of the nearby drawer space. Colors of the kitchen all blended together in a wash of cream. The countertops were marble and showing wear. Ultimately the client wanted a more functional kitchen, updated appearance, easy to use and something they would feel reflected the warmth of their family. Visually the new kitchen is stunning. It combines an old world feel with some modern twists. The custom stone hood and large stoves became a focal point in the kitchen. The antiqued red island softens the look of the stoves, compliments the moss tones of the ceiling beams and creates a warm touch in the heart of the kitchen. Perimeter counters are made of leathered Taj-Mahal granite, and the island is polished Typhoon Bordeaux granite. Above the island are hand blown glass pendants that give a little shimmer and sparkle to the old world feel. The Arabesque style handmade ceramic backsplash pulls together the tones from the cabinets, countertops and ceiling. As part of our environmentally conscious building, we used KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufactures Association) Environmental Stewardship Program certified cabinets and replaced all of the lighting with energy efficient lighting. Outcome is warm, highly functional and inviting space for family and friends to gather.
