Drafting Tables

With their remarkable tilted work surfaces and versatile design, it’s no wonder that drafting tables are thought of as tools for professionals. While you’ll certainly find a drafting table in most designers’ offices, there’s no reason why one can’t find its way into a more casual setting in your home, too. The adjustable work surface and variety of styles and uses can make a drafting table a helpful companion when it comes to getting office work done or starting your next art project.

Some drafting tables are collapsible, making them perfect for small spaces or areas where you don’t need a desk 100 percent of the time, such as a guest room. Others feature a four-legged design that’s more permanent and sturdier. Whichever style you choose, it’s a good idea to make sure your art table will fit in your space before you bring it home. Don’t forget to analyze what angle you’d like the top surface to be tilted at, too. Most designs tilt at either 35 or 45 degrees maximum, but some may offer an even steeper angle if you need it.

Another option to consider is your chair height. Your art desk may be built to accommodate a normal office chair, while other styles are taller and meant to be paired with a drafting chair. While you’re taking a peek at all the features, be sure your drawing table offers all of the cubbies, drawers and shelves you might need, or at least have a backup plan in case your otherwise perfect art desk doesn’t come with the extras you want.
