Michael Moran/OTTO photography We took a predictable suburban spec house and transformed it into a unique home of enduring value and family-centered design. The existing footprint was expanded where it needed it most: in the family and kitchen area, creating a large square room with open views to a protected nature preserve abutting the property. An unexpected glass canopy and teak entry door are clues that what lies beyond is hardly commonplace. The design challenge was to infuse modern-day functionality and architectural quality into a spec house. Working in partnership with Gary Cruz Studio, we designed the pared down, art-filled interiors with the goal of creating comfortable, purposeful living environments. We also sought to integrate the existing pool and rear deck into the overall building design, extending the usable space outside as a screened-in porch, a dining terrace, and a seating area around a stone fire pit.

This West University Master Bathroom remodel was quite the challenge. Our design team rework the walls in the space along with a structural engineer to create a more even flow. In the begging you had to walk through the study off master to get to the wet room. We recreated the space to have a unique modern look. The custom vanity is made from Tree Frog Veneers with countertops featuring a waterfall edge. We suspended overlapping circular mirrors with a tiled modular frame. The tile is from our beloved Porcelanosa right here in Houston. The large wall tiles completely cover the walls from floor to ceiling . The freestanding shower/bathtub combination features a curbless shower floor along with a linear drain. We cut the wood tile down into smaller strips to give it a teak mat affect. The wet room has a wall-mount toilet with washlet. The bathroom also has other favorable features, we turned the small study off the space into a wine / coffee bar with a pull out refrigerator drawer.

This award-winning and intimate cottage was rebuilt on the site of a deteriorating outbuilding. Doubling as a custom jewelry studio and guest retreat, the cottage’s timeless design was inspired by old National Parks rough-stone shelters that the owners had fallen in love with. A single living space boasts custom built-ins for jewelry work, a Murphy bed for overnight guests, and a stone fireplace for warmth and relaxation. Free form pool and spa features waterfall and cave with deep-end jumping rock, large tanning deck, in-pool bar stools and a pebble-plaster surface. A travertine deck surrounds the pool while flagstone is used for the coping and as the flooring in the outdoor kitchen. Large palms and gas tiki torches add a tropical feel to the space. The outdoor kitchen is constructed of rough cedar and has a wet bar, grill, refrigerator, post-mounted fans and an enclosed entertainment system.

The homeowner desired an outdoor space that would include an area for relaxing with a full view of the pool, an outdoor kitchen, a fire feature and a dining area. The space replaced a small patio cover that was just not big enough. We had to remove three 2nd floor windows in order to tie into the home and give the new cover a proper pitch. On the interior, we created art nooks where the windows had been. The kitchen has a tile backsplash, custom vent hood cover over a ventahood liner, custom cabinets that house the wireless electronic system, and is equipped with an RCS grill and stainless drawers, doors and an outdoor refrigerator. The bar area has bar top seating and a beautiful copper backsplash. The fascia is stone (Quarry Cream Rough) and matches the columns and fire pit bases. The fire pits are topped with Noce tumbled 16x24 pavers. They are custom built gas fire pits that allow for a full view of the pool and backyard. The flooring is a special feature! It is 12X48 paver tiles from Turkey that look like wood. The wood grain look was computerized directly on them. They have a rough texture, so it isn’t slippery (perfect for poolside). The ceiling is a coffered ceiling using tongue and groove pine that has been painted. The beams are wrapped in hardie and painted. The ceiling fans are Haiku fans. This design was created to allow for a wide open view of the pool and backyard as well as create a grand entrance to the yard from the home. Since the pool was there first, it was important to keep that as the main focus of the backyard! We think it's just gorgeous! TK IMAGES

This beautiful horse barn is located in Carolina. The frame was constructed using rough sawn hemlock timber and traditional joinery. The exterior of the bar has timber beams and double dutch doors with wrought iron hinges.
