Our first job with this home was an internal renovation. Sadly, the homeowner had suffered a flood from the upstairs to the downstairs and there was a lot of damage to fix. After we transformed the interior (bedrooms, bathrooms, mudroom and kitchen), we set to work on the beautiful exterior. We wanted to update and improve the exterior of the home without overwhelming the original style of the house. We also wanted to make sure that the new additions added proportion and visual appeal to a home that has great bones and a stunning updated interior.

The new low maintenance plantings to screen the utilitis are dwarf so as to not overwhelm the planting area. Spring flowering evergreen shrubs and turf lily will provide seasonal interest spring thru fall.

Designed to feel bright, calm and effortlessly welcoming, this shaker kitchen offers a fresh take on a classic design. Finished in Salcombe Blue, the cabinetry introduces a soft wash of colour that brings character to the space without overwhelming it. A statement worktop with elegant veining draws the eye to the centre of the room, adding depth and visual interest while complementing the softer tones of the cabinetry. Bridle Path Residence — Luxury Wellness Bathroom & Hydrotherapy Suite This Bridle Path Residence bathroom is conceived as a private hydrotherapy retreat, bringing a resort-like wellness experience into the home while maintaining the architectural detailing and craftsmanship of the residence. The design is less about creating a conventional bathroom and more about establishing a dedicated space for relaxation, recovery, and ritual. The hydrotherapy tub becomes the central sculptural element of the room. Its generous curved profile creates a soft, organic focal point against the highly detailed wall treatment, while the integrated jets and ergonomic form emphasize the room's wellness-driven purpose. Positioning the tub within the main architectural composition gives it the presence of a luxury amenity rather than treating it as a standard fixture. The walls are enveloped in a small-format decorative mosaic with an intricate, almost textile-like pattern. This repeated surface creates remarkable visual depth and gives the room a distinctly crafted quality. The subtle variation within the mosaic prevents the predominantly light palette from feeling flat, while its fine geometry provides a counterpoint to the smooth, sculptural tub. A particularly thoughtful feature is the integrated sauna viewing window, which creates a visual relationship between the hydrotherapy area and the warm timber sauna beyond. Designed by Katherine Dashiell of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Annapolis, MD in collaboration with Emory Construction, this coastal transitional inspired project features cabinet designs for the kitchen, bar, powder room, primary bathroom and laundry room. The kitchen design features Merillat Classic Tolani in a Cotton finish on the perimeter kitchen cabinets. For the kitchen island, the cabinets are Merillat Masterpiece Montresano Rustic Alder in a Husk Suede finish. The design also includes a Kohler Whitehaven sink. The bar design features Green Forest Cabinetry in the Park Place door style with a White finish. The powder room bathroom design features Merillat Classic in the Tolani door style in a Nightfall finish. The primary bathroom design features Merillat Masterpiece cabinets in the Turner door style in Rustic Alder with a Husk Suede finish. The laundry room features Green Forest Cabinetry in the Park Place door style with a Spéciale Grey finish. “This was our second project working with Reico. The overall process is overwhelming given the infinite layout options and design combinations so having the experienced team at Reico listen to our vision and put it on paper was invaluable,” said the client. “They considered our budget and thoughtfully allocated the dollars.” “The team at Reico never balked if we requested a quote in a different product line or a tweak to the layout. The communication was prompt, professional and easy to understand. And of course, the finished product came together beautifully – better than we could have ever imagined! With two small children and a third on the way, the owners of an original eighteenth century Cape were quickly out-growing it, but they had no desire to move away from the Cape Cod home and location they loved. They simply needed a reconfigured layout and more space. Their goals included repurposing some existing rooms, adding a new kitchen/family area plus screen porch on the first level, and creating a master suite and roof deck with an outdoor shower on the second level, connected by a new stair. Our challenge was to improve the flow between existing spaces, and design the two-story addition without overwhelming the pint-sized original Cape. We took advantage of the lower grade at the rear of the property to step the first floor of the addition down two steps from the existing main level. This allowed us to align the second floor in the addition with the existing second floor, while gaining ceiling height in the new first-floor kitchen/family area. We composed a cross-gabled form for the addition to improve the second floor headroom, while maintaining the existing eave line. We then extended some existing shed dormers to gain headroom and enhance function. We also expanded the outdoor living area with privacy walls along the roof deck. New, larger, double–hung windows that match the lite configuration of the existing windows, along with new side-wall shingles and trim which resemble the existing exterior treatment help to tie the new addition to the old Cape. Though there’s no mistaking the new for the old, the two are simpatico. This is the family room and kitchen, it’s an open concept. The client purchased a slipcover sofa in a white performance fabric. Her concern was that she bought this piece before hiring me, so she wasn’t sure it was going to work in the space. I made it work, I added a white shag rug, a leather recliner, a stripe accent chair and a storage ottoman in a velvet fabric. I love how all these pieces complement each other. It’s not a huge space so I didn’t want to overwhelm so I chose (2) glass side tables and a glass sofa table. The chairs we chose for the dining and counter area made with gray leather. The breakfast table is an extendable table in a brown finish. I accessorized with the blues, whites and neutrals all throughout the home.

Returning home after more than a decade living and working in Taiwan, our client envisioned something entirely different from the French Colonial aesthetic of his early-1990s Beaverton home. Through a comprehensive design-build renovation, this Portland metro whole-house remodel transformed a conventional suburban residence into a richly layered retreat inspired by global travel, natural materials, and timeless craftsmanship. The result is a warm, sophisticated home designed to showcase treasured artifacts and collectibles gathered from years abroad while providing modern functionality for everyday living. From the moment you enter, the home's new character unfolds through a carefully curated palette of wood, stone, and metal. Rich ebony-stained knotty alder millwork draws the eye through the entry, where a newly created mudroom replaces the former office space. Beyond a set of dramatic barn doors, a striking stone fireplace becomes the focal point of the living room, anchored by a reclaimed wood mantel and rustic ceiling beams that add warmth and architectural depth. Nearby, the sunroom was completely refreshed through thoughtful window modifications and custom trim detailing, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Upstairs, creative space planning allowed for the addition of a discreet laundry nook within an underutilized hallway area, improving convenience without sacrificing valuable living space. An antique carved door serves as a distinctive feature within the reconfigured closet layout, while the primary bathroom embraces a calming combination of stone, concrete, and matte black finishes. Large-format tile arranged in a custom Versailles-inspired pattern guides the eye through the spa-like retreat, where natural textures and abundant daylight create a serene atmosphere. While the main and upper levels celebrate warmth and global influence, the basement renovation introduces an entirely different layer of the home's personality. To create the ultimate entertainment destination, the basement footprint was extended approximately seven feet beyond the original foundation, transforming previously underutilized space into a seamless indoor-outdoor gathering environment. Inspired by cultured industrial design, the newly expanded lower level was envisioned as a place where family and friends could relax, connect, and enjoy the home's resort-like backyard amenities. At the heart of the basement renovation is a custom entertainment bar featuring reclaimed rustic cabinetry and chiseled-edge granite countertops that emphasize the natural character of the materials. Accordion-style serving windows create a direct connection between the interior bar and the outdoor living spaces, allowing drinks, food, and conversation to flow effortlessly between the entertainment room and the backyard pool, hot tub, and professionally landscaped grounds. The result is a true indoor-outdoor living experience designed for year-round enjoyment. The expansive recreation area accommodates a variety of activities while maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic. A shuffleboard table, billiards area, and casual bar dining space provide multiple destinations for gathering, all unified by a sophisticated palette of brick, concrete, wood, and metal. Slim-profile brick walls introduce texture and authenticity, while custom decorative painting techniques create the appearance of cast concrete accent walls, reinforcing the basement's refined industrial character without overwhelming the space. Supporting spaces throughout the lower level were equally transformed. An outdated bathroom was fully renovated to reflect the home's dark and moody aesthetic, incorporating a curbless shower, rustic vanity, and layered finishes that balance comfort with style. Two underutilized bedrooms were thoughtfully reconfigured to better support the homeowner's lifestyle, with one becoming a dedicated home office and the other opening into a flexible music room designed for creativity and relaxation. Additional unfinished crawlspace and storage areas were reclaimed to create a private home gym, maximizing every square foot of the home's footprint. The renovation extended beyond the interior walls of the home. A newly rebuilt two-story deck strengthens the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces while providing multiple vantage points overlooking the backyard retreat. On the upper level, adjacent to the primary suite, a new enclosed sunroom addition creates a peaceful sanctuary elevated among the trees. Together, these exterior improvements complement the home's interior transformation, enhancing both livability and year-round enjoyment while creating a true extension of the living space outdoors. Behind the finished spaces, this Beaverton full home remodel required significant structural and technical expertise. Replacing the original staircase involved extensive modifications to the upper-floor framing system, including the installation of concealed supports for the floating treads and the creation of a new landing structure. Throughout the home, natural materials presented unique installation challenges. The dimensional variation of the slate backsplash required each stone to be precisely shaped around electrical devices and surrounding elements, while reclaimed wood beams demanded extensive preparation before they could be securely installed. Careful coordination among multiple trades ensured every custom detail performed as beautifully as it appeared. Because the homeowner remained in Taiwan for much of the renovation, collaboration relied on a highly organized design-build process and frequent communication across a fourteen-hour time difference. Detailed design presentations, material selections, and construction updates allowed key decisions to be made efficiently, even from across the globe. This partnership enabled the project team to successfully execute a highly customized vision despite logistical complexities and construction delays outside of the project's control. Strategic planning also played a crucial role in maintaining the project budget. While the homeowner initially envisioned reclaimed wood flooring and natural flagstone throughout the home, carefully selected engineered hardwood and porcelain tile provided a similar aesthetic with improved performance and cost efficiency. Authenticity was preserved through the use of genuine stone at key focal points, including the fireplace surround and kitchen backsplash, as well as reclaimed wood incorporated into architectural beam details. Existing high-quality windows were retained and transformed through selective replacement, custom trim work, and thoughtful refinishing, delivering the desired look while avoiding unnecessary expense. Additional savings came from a creative exterior repair solution that replicated the home's original stucco detailing without requiring a complete façade replacement.
