Yorkville Hill Landscaping Inc.

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMay 19, 2015
We had our apron to the driveway and the front sidewalk and entrance done with pavers. We were happy to hear that polymeric sand was used so that weeds would not grow between the pavers. The grading of the sidewalk was excellent and there was no need to even have a step due to this. We loved the artistic look of the sidewalk. The entrance from the driveway is wider and gives it a more elegant look. The sidewalk has the pavers turned along the two edges for the border appearance. The finished project far exceeded our expectations. We plan to use Yorkville Hill for our patio and landscaping! We loved how Kyle contacted us whenever we had changes or questions and how he supervised his crew!

We had recently added a sunroom and needed some landscaping done in our backyard around the new room. We also decided to put in a patio adjacent to the sunroom. We have a slanted backyard, so we really needed advice on how to accomplish this. In addition, we needed a landscaper to work with us as the contractor finished our deck so everything would flow together. We had an idea of what we wanted, but were really looking for advice and recommendations. We talked to three different landscapers and decided to go with Western DuPage Landscaping. The designer, Nicole, had some great suggestions for our project and worked within the budget we gave her. She patiently explained the difference in pricing between the various pavers available and also recommended plants and shrubs that would grow in our very shaded backyard. Our project came in on budget and in the time frame given. We are very happy with the work done and would not hesitate to return to WDL for future work.
Nathan Wright Landscape Design

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJanuary 28, 2016
Nathan came to our home for an estimate and design ideas for a back yard makeover and patio. Our yard was messy and needed clean up and we really wanted a patio. Nathan provided detailed designs of his ideas and concepts and made some great suggestions. He called and scheduled within a week as promised. He moved quickly with a hardworking crew and did a complete makeover. Two years later the patio drains nicely and looks fantastic. We highly recommend Nathan Wright Landscape. Thanks, Will & Eiko.

Heffernan Landscape Design designed and installed a garden and patio after gut-rehab and addition built to my home. The architecture of my home, my needs, wish list and my abilitiy as a gardner were taken into account when the garden was designed. A large patio with seating, greenspace, herb garden, and shade trees was installed. Excellent work with beautiful results. Courteous crew left the area spotless.
Exterra Designs, Inc

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsFebruary 20, 2013
We have had Exterra do two projects for our home. First was landscaping the front and side of the house. This involved stone work, plantings and a pergola. We were thrilled with beautiful design and the craftsmanship of installation. The plantings have thrived and after 10 years all the work remains intact. Two years ago, we came back to Pete to have a patio put on the back of the house. This was all brick work and Pete's design was great and worked perfect with what was existing. We had some settling on the patio and Exterra was out immediately to fix it and it is great. We love the work Pete has done with design and the guys doing the install were wonderful. We whole heartedly recommend Exterra designs.

We have had the priviledge to perform the landscape masonry work on more than 10 projects that Katy has designed. She is thoughtful and creative with her projects. I have always been impressed that she is able to create functional, yet really beautiful outdoor spaces that work really great for families. She is a great communicater and her projects are always fun for our team to take on. I would highly recommend anyway considering hiring Katy to be their landscape designer.
Apex Landscaping, Inc.
Chicago, IL Landscape Architects and Designers
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMarch 27, 2018
Apex was hired after competitive bids and reference checks to design and install 10 corners and two large planting beds in our Townhouse complex. The Designer and Project Manager was Mike Burkland. Apex collaborated with our Landscape Committee to produce a design that more than satisfied our requirements. Mike stayed on top of every aspect of the implementation, assuring that staff, plants, sod, outcropping stone etc. were first rate. His crew was terrific and he deserves special recognition for his follow thru. If all contractors performed like Mike and Apex, our Association would be a dream to manage.

I'm a resident in a 12 townhome "U"-shaped community with a courtyard and two "wing yards" stretching along the public sidewalk. Our landscaping at the beginning of the year (2016) consisted of 15 full grown trees, some shrubs, and struggling ground cover with a great deal of bare areas. The 30-foot trees dominated the landscape, inhibiting plant variety for lack of sunlight. Additionally, when it rained we experienced soil erosion spreading mud over the public sidewalk and courtyard walkway when it rained. This spring we (the townhome owners) decided to contact McAdam Landscaping for a remedy. Our contact person was Scott McAdam who presented us an elegant design. It called for the removal of all but two of the trees, arranging to have Davis Tree Care to handle that aspect (which they did very professionally), and the substitution of six ornamental trees and a wonderful variety of shrubs, conifers, perennials and ground cover laid out in a flowing, very aesthically-pleasing arrangement. The graphic plan placed little demand on us to envision what it would look like in the end. Scott worked with us to make a few minor adjustments that reduced the cost appreciably without departing from the overall design, displaying patience as we worked through the cumbersome internal process of deliberation, approval and payment collection. The plan was approved by the owners of all 12 townhomes at the very end of August and the job was completed in September. We are quite pleased with the final product. The mud erosion problem has been arrested. A neighbor who is an experienced gardner herself shared this: ""Scott's thoughtful design and vision has brought new energy and fluidity to our community courtyard. The use of native plants addresses our need for a low maintenance, high impact green space pleasing to the eye, and increasing our property value & appearance." Another neighbor added: "I also really appreciate his [Scott McAdam's] attention to color in all seasons. I loved how the bushes and trees turned this fall, and look forward to seeing the colors in the other seasons as well." The frog of a landscape we began the year with has been kissed. It's now a prince.
