Bed and Bath

When it comes to decorating your bedroom and bathroom, it’s all about the linens. Your bedding helps determine the style of your bedroom, while your bath linens can add a much-needed punch of color to otherwise boring space. Looking to make a bigger impact? You’ll need to invest in a more substantial change, like a new furniture. Regardless of your budget, here are some easy ways to add that wow factor to a bedroom or bathroom.

Consider the comfort and style of your bedding.

You ideally spend eight hours a night in bed, so comfort is key when you’re picking out bedding and pillows. Do your research to determine what works for you: Would you prefer a comforter, quilt or duvet cover? Should you invest in sheets with a higher thread count? Would you prefer a down pillow or a memory foam pillow? Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, also consider style. Your bedding makes the biggest impact on overall design — it can instantly make a room feel updated.

Make your bathroom accessories shine.

Your bath has a few constant bathroom fixtures — shower, bathtub, toilet and sink — so the accessories help make or break the room’s design. Things as simple as patterned towels, bath mats or a shower curtain can add some much-needed color; even a tissue box or soap dispenser can make a difference. For a bit of luxury, include a towel warmer, a makeup mirror and even an armchair or stool for lounging.

Go for the bathroom remodel.

Sometimes your washroom is beyond repair, and no number of colorful mats or cutesy tissue boxes will do the trick. Instead, think about a major revamp by adding a new shower, bathtub, bathroom sink and bathroom vanity. Although individual preferences take precedence, pedestal tubs, double sinks and walk-in showers are always popular options. If you’re looking to go big, many contemporary showers now have multiple showerheads, including a rain showerhead and handheld showerhead, and vessel sinks and makeup vanities are always elegant additions.

Select kids’ bedding and baby bedding that will last.

Kids’ bedding is a whole different animal — after all, a child’s taste changes in the blink of an eye. Try to avoid selecting bedding with a favorite theme; your daughter might like horses one day and despise them the next. Instead, opt for a colorful or even neutral pattern. Baby bedding is a little less complicated, though be sure to get all the necessary crib accessories, including a blanket, fitted sheet, bumper and crib skirt.
