In response to Stacey: Raiks almost just like these were common in my neighborhood a former old Quaker Resort. Installed in 1904 they were still in decent shape in the 1970's. With great saddness sorry to say they willmost likely outlive you Stacey.

Dean, This was obviously built for decorative purposes. It's also only a foot off the ground so safety is not really an issue.

These trees were salvaged from the property when the site was cleared for the house construction. I am not sure about the top rail, but the free form panel infills are made with rhododendron (also salvaged from the site clearing).
