A stand alone space designed specifically for a young mother who wanted a space that was unique, elegant, and distinctively hers.

The project scope consisted of many design constraints: the client requested a limited color palette (blue and white only), no architectural modification, and a tight timeline of less than three months.
Because of the short turnaround deadline, our selections were largely limited to options in stock and ready to ship. We found an iconic blue-and-white print (China Seas Arbré de Matisse in China Blue), and the client welcomed the opportunity to swathe the space in it.

The angular design of the rug, light fixtures and desk is mirrored in the French grosgrain ribbon detail—a greek-key square—on the two white club chairs that frame the fireplace. Opposite the room sits a large oval Saarinen-style table, evoking the feeling of an infinite surface perfect for spreading out an art project, a spelling test or catching up on personal paperwork.

A departure from the rest of the house, the office inserts an element of freshness and whimsy while staying cohesive with the traditional aesthetic found throughout other rooms of the home.
