An existing 1-story ranch home in East Nashville had a good foundation, but the interior was chopped up into 3 bedrooms with 1 bath. There was a small kitchen separated from a small living room (not ideal for the modern family). Our proposal? Keep as much of the existing house as possible. We were able to salvage the foundation and most of the brick facade. The interior gutted. The new spacious main level allows the house to breathe, inviting guests to enter off the street and spill into the back yard. From there we added a second floor with a gable roof facing the street. We kept the scale of the gable low so as to blend seamlessly into the context of East Nashville. Upstairs we took advantage of space with shed dormers at the sides of the house. The end result is a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath renovation that will make a great home for years to come.
