The Modern Schoolhouse
DESIGNER: Zack Simmons
When it came time to give her home a modern update, this homeowner turned to CKS to complete the job. The homeowner knew she wanted to transform her home into a transitional and industrial space and brought a lot of innovative ideas to the table. The challenge we had was that it was a very traditional townhouse, however we were determined to give the home an updated and modern feel.
We started by completely gutting the kitchen with the goal of creating the essence of a modern bistro-inspired space. We did this by incorporating the thoughtful details such as the subway tile inside the back of the cabinets and the contrasting dark grout. In addition, we incorporated two-toned, custom inset cabinetry, Farrow & Ball paint colors, and a clean Caesar-Stone countertop. The finishing touches included a tongue-and-groove wood feature wall behind the kitchen sink, built-in appliances and pantry, and integrated finger pulls for the cabinets for a modern look.
Next, we carried this industrial style into the hallways and bathrooms of the home. We replaced all of the doors with slab doors in a rich black finish in addition to installing a sliding farm door. We also upgraded all of the bathrooms in the home with new cabinetry and crystal drawer pulls for a distinct and stylish look.
The master bathroom got a complete overhaul from the vessel sink to a new shower door and the upgraded, furniture-style vanity. Lastly, we installed a custom, black and white tile marble mosaic inlay that distinctively completes the space.
